Having returned back to the Inn after her journey to Witchwood, the pirate lass had enjoyed herself a couple drinks before settling in to contemplate. Ahh, it had been, overall, a rather unpleasant first task to earn her keep, to have a roof over her head and some booze in her tankard. Sure, some of the folks she had to ‘work’ with were bearable; the flame throwing devil mage, that damned Drow who had given her so much flak on her arrival…and then there were all them do-gooder types like Lord Prissypants and his cat who had ridiculed her every step of the way.
“Me surely be hopin’ me needn’t have ta stomach dem nancies ‘gain. Make th’ drinks sour in me guts, me say. Blasted rat bastards, up an’ fribble all th’ treasures! Got me half-mind ta use tha’ silver spoon o’ his ta scoop out his eyeballs!”
Groggily settling in for a night’s rest, Scarletta would drift off to sleep, dreaming of swimming in a bottomless pile of gold and rubies and other riches. The Siren would giggle and wade through the endless wealth in her true mereform, flipping loot to and fro, as happy as a pig in its own filth. She would wallow about in the bottomless treasury, only needing to make her way to any edge of the massive vault to find her beloved Dragons Breath on tap from a flowing cask that would have taken at least two giants to carry!
And then, the dream would become a nightmare, at the sight of the rest of her ‘merry crew’ from Witchwood barging in, bantering on about how if they destroy her treasure, she will be too weak to fight them off. The drow, the ghost elf, that fire flinging demon mage, the priestess, the katana-wielding girl…and none other than that noble bastard and his stupid cat going into an all-out assault against her imaginary riches!
“Bastards, me say! ‘Tis high time me kill all o’ ya!”
Just as the pirate lass would attempt to defend her treasures, she was suddenly chained up to a massive ruby, unable to break free as her plunder was..well, plundered! The ruby would simply lose its luster at that point, before turning into a massive boulder and falling into an endless void, dragging her down with it into the abyss.
Sitting bolt upright in her bed with heavy breaths, the lass even went so far as to spring to her feet, only to find out that her nightmare had been ‘real’ enough that she was actually in her true Siren form, causing her to flop right over on her belly with a thud.
“Son o’ a bitch! Damn ye Infernal bastards an’ yer tricks! Get outta me mind, me say!”
Hearing a voice on the other side of her door inquiring if she was alright, Scarletta would grumble as she attempted to return to that humanoid form that she showed the world before being noticed.
“’Tis alright, jus’…tripped o’er me own feet be all!”
Heading on downstairs to get herself a much-needed drink and a small meal, Scarletta would casually browse through some listing for goods and services, eyeing for any good steals and deals. Not particularly happy with her borrowed blade, she would make note to order a Cutlass, more to her style, along with some Healing Potions. Also noting the advertisement for a more ‘unique’ piece, labeled as a beer stein that could stave off the normal effects of alcohol, She would practically throw the coins from her recent payment down on the tabletop with a hearty laugh.
“Ain’t that be somethin’ me coul’ make good use of….”
After writing up her order and leaving it to Maria to send out on her behalf, the pirate lass would casually pick through some of her other wares from her recent adventure; particularly that odd coin that had fallen into her clutches. Opportunities to rake in the riches were just falling right into her lap these days, weren’t they? To hell with being stuck in the company of do-gooders and…well, anyone who put personal affairs before personal wealth! Scarletta’s lust for wealth and fortune took precedence over giving a damn about making allies and solving mysteries and taking down ancient evils.
“Alright, you li’l devil fiend lady…’tis high time ta scuttle an’ bamboozle th’ suckers an’ idiots who be all too ‘bliging ta part with their riches!”

The following evening, after spending a good portion of her time slumming around at the Inn and chatting up one drow (who had been a bit too keen to draw into wagering) and eyeing up some rather shiny goods belonging to the other (who was still oddly…familiar to her) as he did business with some crafter lady, the pirate was all smiles as her parcel was delivered. A few potions, the rather hefty stein and a shiny new blade gave her motivation enough to head out and test the waters on her less-than-savory enterprise. Coming upon a random fellow in the streets, she would waste little time inquiring about some sort of seedy little place that would be perfect to operate out of.
“S’cuse me, matey…d’ya know o’ th’ sort o’ place a lass like me can partake in some wagers? ‘bliged if ya point me th’ right way…me be feelin’ lucky…”

Apparently, by looking for trouble, Scarletta had found it, as a duo of thugs had opted to follow behind her upon hearing her little conversation about a gambling hall. One who looked to gamble typically had money, after all. Knowing the alley itself was a dead end, the large, burly Thug kept his distance as a roadblock, while his smaller companion crept up on her to try and plunge his blade into her back.

Scarletta was fortunate that the little thug had splashed in a puddle as he rushed towards her, giving her just enough of a warning to spin aside and evade his sudden attack. Spinning to face him, and noticing his larger pal further back, she would cock her head to the side as she drew her cutlass. Well, maybe she wouldn’t get to swindle folks of their money, but she would at least have the opportunity to put that blade to good use.
“HA! Ye scurvy bastards thinkin’ ya can scuttle Scarletta Deveraux o’ th’ Crimson Tides!?”
With her defiant little rant resulting in little more than a stupefied look instead of some form of fear from her adversaries, the lass swung her blade out a few times, before finally lunging forward to cut into the Small Thug’s leg.

“Tell ya what, ya big smelly bastard. Me be in th’ mood ta gamble. Call it in th’ air…and if ya guess right, me will spare yer sorry ass. We savvy?”
She would toss the coin, watching as her helpless prey had that faint glimmer of hope in his eyes. Coughing up blood, he would reply, unaware that he never had a chance.
“Urghh…uggh….h----Heads!”
Deliberately taking her time, the pirate would even go so far as to kneel at his side, coldly rubbing a hand to stroke his head to feign any sort of compassion, as she opened her hand to show him his pre-determined fate. It was Tails.
