Update 2.19
Greetings, OH Members:
We had a very nice Spring Dance last Sunday, at least I thought it was lots of fun. It is not very often one gets to watch a dwarf do the robot dance, or just get to watch our characters hang out with one another and have fun. We will start doing these non-combat things more often, once a month is my goal. We don't always need to be fighting, there are far more stories to be written than just combat week after week.
I want to send out our IC Newsletter this week. No one has sent me anything for it, no advertisements, articles or anything. Send me something, and I'll give you a gift depending on what it is and if I can use it.
A (temptofblack) our Moderator is now going to be taking over Badges. If you have earned a badge of any sort, you need to send temptofblack your proof, and what badge you are going to earn.
Contest will be announced soon. Here's a teaser.... you are going to be asked to create a "bad guy" with some kind of storyline that will involve ALL of OH. So, you can start thinking about that now! And remember, not all "bad guys" have to be evil, vindictive, twisted bastards. I will be looking for creativity here, as usual.
Don't forget, today is Sunday. If you have crafting skills it's time for you to ask for your crafting points. Don't forget to tell ashtonlocke how many points you get and what crafting skills.
TRAITS CAP INFORMATION
We all know that traits cap at 12.... or do they? Well, you now have a few ways to gain traits over 12. The entire rules will be on the site this week, but for now there are three ways for you to gain trait points over 12. First, though, there is a limit. You may gain FOUR, that's 4 extra trait points to put where you like over 12. Even if you do what is needed to earn more trait points, the most you can EVER earn over 12 regardless of where they are placed is FOUR. This is total, not per trait. So you could take one trait to 16, or spread it out over other traits such as having one go to 15, and one to 13 -- or four traits at 13 each -- or a trait at 14, and two traits at 13. There's various ways.
1. Check out Award Ribbons. When you earn certain ribbons, you get a trait point to add where you wish. Ribbons are gained for sparring, marksmanship, jousting, and racing. You may even earn ribbons for doing your job as a bard or a healer on quests.
2. Reputation. When you earn 25 reputation, you get 1 trait point to add where you like, and it can take your trait points over 12.
3. Special Awards. I reserve the right to hand out a trait point as a prize for anything special that I might run as a contest, championship, or anything of that sort. This will be rare, but it may happen.
Remember. Four. No matter how you get them... such as 2 from Ribbons, 1 from Reputation, 1 from an Award... that's all you can earn. Even if you earn a ribbon that says you get another trait point, if you are at Four, you don't get the trait point.
All activity logs go to our Moderator A, at temptofblack. She handles the xp for these things (given to me each Saturday) and handing out Ribbons.
DEFENSE
In our constant search to make sure that everything is balanced and fair in our game, we approach the subject of defense again. There is so much available for defense, and it's getting a bit overpowered. We need a cap of how much defense you can have. Because this affects everyone, I'm coming to all of you players to get your opinions. Please send your opinions on defense, how much is fair to have, whether you think we should cap it, or anything else that would assist me in making a decision. I am talking about defense, not defensive skills. There will always be evades, reflects and the like offered to you. The issue is the immense amount of defense that some people have, and that is possible for everyone to have in the future if we don't put a cap on it. I attempted to cap it by saying you could only go +2 over items, and +5 over armor/shields but even then we still are in the upwards of 20+ maybe even 30+ for some folks. This, to me, is over the top. What do you think is fair? And if you totally disagree with me that it's a problem, please, I want to hear from you as well. This is OUR game after all, and defense is something that touches EVERYONE.
SKILL CHANGE SALE
I've added quite a bit of new skills the past few weeks, including today. I will not do this every time, but I've decided that I'll offer a SALE on skill changes. Normally you get the first skill switch free, then it goes up to 500 for the next, 1000 if you change again, and upwards of that. Not this week!
This week ONLY we have a sale. This sale starts when you get this Update, and ends at midnight (est) Saturday, the 25th. Please state "Skill Change Sale" on your email when you send it to ashtonlocke. Make sure you meet the prerequisites.
All skill changes, regardless of how many (unless you are still owed the first free one) are 250gp.
LAST MONTH FOR SPRING BONUS!
This is still going on, but it ends the last day of May! Any new character (remember, each player is only allowed at the most 7 PC's unless you've been given a freebie) will be allowed to start with 35xp, 2000gp, and 1 Healing Potion (10hp). This allows a person to start at Topaz Adept with a class AND a profession.
If you recruit a new PLAYER (not just a new char from a current player) into OH, you will be given a bonus of 10xp instead of the usual 5xp. And remember, you don't get any xp from "recruiting" yourself!
You are welcome to open recruiting rooms, but we don't focus on such things so that is just if YOU want to do it! I sometimes open an OOC Recruiting Room just so I can answer questions about the game.

UPDATES, PATCHES, CLARIFICATIONS
--1. It's Magic
Magic spell information has changed. I will not copy all the changes here, but find the changes here. If you have spells written you NEED TO CHANGE THEM. Make sure they follow the new (better, improved) rules. These new rules allow you to do more with attacks and add a few new types of spells. If you have any dual spells, you need to send them to me to get them approved again, once you decide how you wish them to be done, due to the changing of the spell rules.
--2. Horses
Horses now have stats. This doesn't mean that if you own a horse you can automatically use them in combat, you still need Animal Companion skill, but if they are attacked or something of that nature, there are rules for them now. Also, if your character owns a horse and you did not PAY for the horse or gain it via some sort of mission or quest, you need to either get rid of the horse, or pay for it. Let ashtonlocke know what type of horse and he'll remove the gold. If you are just using a horse for your rp to get from one place to the other here and there, you can borrow horses from the OH Stables at the inne.
--3. New Skills
These are all added!
Elven Accuracy
Wild Attunement
Breadth of Experience
Shards of the Past
Life's Blood
Hateful Rager
Amplified by Hate
Omnicient Whispers
Black Fester
Wild Guardian
Savage Maw
Wild Mage
Extra Credit: Answer a question for 2XP. Remember, one per player. Tell me where you want the 2XP when you reply!
According to the new Magic Spell rules, for a Strengthen spell that adds hit points, how many hit points get added for a mage that is Emerald ranked?
