Dragons
Dragons are winged, reptile like creatures of ancient lineage. They are known and feared for their size, physical prowess, and magical abilities. The oldest dragons are among the most powerful creatures in the world. All dragons gain more abilities and greater power as they age. They range in length from several feet upon hatching to more than 100 feet after attaining the status of great wyrm. The exact size varies according to age and variety.
Though they are fearsome predators, dragons scavenge when necessary and can eat almost anything if they are hungry enough. A dragons metabolism operates like a highly efficient furnace and can metabolize even inorganic material. Some dragons have developed a taste for such fare.
Although goals and ideals vary among varieties, all dragons are covetous. They like to hoard wealth, collecting mounds of coins and as many gems, jewels, and magic items as possible. Those with large hoards are loathe to leave them for long, venturing out of their lairs only to patrol the immediate area or to get food. For dragons, there is never enough treasure: it's pleasing to look at, and they bask in it's radiance. Dragons like to make beds of their hoards, shaping nooks and mounds to fit their bodies. By the time a dragon matures to the great wyrm stage, hundreds of gems and coins are embedded in it's hide.
Dragon Society
Although all dragons are believed to have come from the same roots tens of thousands of years ago, the present varieties keep to themselves and cooperate only under extreme circumstances, such as a powerful, mutual threat. Good dragons never work with evil dragons, however, though a few neutral specimens have been found with either. Gold dragons occasionally associate with silver dragons.
When evil dragons of different varieties encounter one another, they usually fight to protect their territories. Good dragons are more tolerant, though also very territorial, and usually try to work out differences in a peaceful manner.
Dragons follow a number of reproductive strategies to suit their needs and temperaments. These help assure the continuation of a dragons bloodline, no matter what happens to the parent or the parents lair. Young adults, particularly evil or less intelligent ones, tend to lay clutches of eggs all around the countryside, leaving their offspring to fend for themselves. These hatch into clutches of dragons, usually juvenile or younger, which stick together until they can establish their own lairs. Older and more intelligent dragons form families consisting of a mated pair and up to five young. Mated dragons are always adults or mature adults. Shortly after a dragon reaches the young adult or juvenile stage, it leaves its parents to establish a lair of its own.
A pair of mated dragons beyond the mature adult stage usually splits up, independence and the lust for treasure driving them apart. Older females continue to mate and lay eggs, but only one parent stays in the lair to raise young. Often an older female lays many clutches of eggs, keeping one to tend herself and one for her mate, and leaving the rest untended. Sometimes a female dragon places an egg or wyrmling with non draconic foster parents.
Breath Weapons
A blast from a breath weapon always starts at the dragons mouth, and extends in a direction of the dragons choice. Breath weapons come in two basic shapes - line, and cone. They can be used throughout combat as long as the dragon is in dragon form, and roleplays out the use of their breath weapon.
Types of Dragons
Here you can find all the types of dragon that can be found in our world. If you have a dragon type that is not listed here, then please send your information written in the same format used below, to haloofnoire or feraiprince.
Please note - like humans, dragons can differ from the norm. The statistics below are based on the majority of their type. If you have a reason why your dragon doesn't abide by the descriptions (such as alignment) you need to have a good storyline as to why. In some cases, you just have to have certain traits to play that dragon.
CHROMATIC
Chromatic dragons form the evil branch of dragonkind. They are aggressive, greedy, vain, and nasty.
Black Dragon ( water )
Climate/Terrain: Any marsh or underground
Alignment: chaotic evil
Information: Black dragons are evil-tempered, cunning, and malevolent, characteristics that are reflected in their crafty, sinister faces. They are sometimes known as “Skull Dragons” because of their deep socketed eyes and distinct nasal opening.
Adding to the skeletal impression is the gradual deterioration of the hide around the horn base and cheekbones. This increases with age and does not harm the dragon. On hatching, a black dragon’s scales are thin, small, and glossy. As the dragon ages, they become larger, thicker, and duller, helping it camouflage itself in swamps and marshes.
Black dragons lair in large, damp caves and multichambered subterranean caverns. They smell of rotting vegetation and foul water, with an acidic undertone. Older dragons hide the entrance to their lairs using plant growth. Black dragons dine primarily on fish, mollusks, and other aquatic creatures. They also hunt for red meat, and like to "pickle" it by letting it lie in ponds within the lair for days before eating it.
Black dragons are especially fond of coins. Older dragons sometimes capture and question humans about stockpiles of gold, silver, and platinum coins before killing them.
Breath Weapon: A black dragon has one type of breath weapon, a line of acid.
Water Breathing: The dragon can breath underwater indefinitely and freely use it's breath weapon, spells, and other abilities while submerged.
Forces Subtype: Weakness is sonic.
Blue Dragon ( earth )
Climate/Terrain: Temperate and warm desert and underground
Alignment: lawful evil
Information: Blue dragons are vain and territorial. They are one of the dragon varieties best adapted to digging into sand.
A blue dragon is distinguished by dramatic frilled ears and a single, massive horn on it's snout. Its scales vary in color from an iridescent azure to a deep indigo, polished to a glossy finish by blowing desert sands. The size of it's scales increases little as the dragon ages, although they do become thicker and harder. Their hides tend to hum and crackle faintly with built up static electricity. These effects intensify when the dragon is angry or about to attack, giving off an odor of ozone and sand.
Their vibrant color makes blue dragons easy to spot in barren desert surroundings. However, they often burrow into the sand so only part of their heads are exposed. Blue dragons love to soar in the hot desert air, usually flying in the day time when temperatures are highest. Some nearly match the color of the desert sky and use this coloration to their advantage.
Blue dragons lair in vast underground caverns, where they also store their treasure. Although they collect anything that looks valuable, they are most fond of gems - especially sapphires. They are sometimes forced to eat snakes, lizards, and desert plants to sate their great hunger but especially prefer herd animals such as camels. When they get the chance they gorge themselves on these creatures, which they cook with their lightning breath.
Breath Weapon: A blue dragon has one type of breath weapon, a line of lightning.
Sound Imitation: The dragon can mimic any voice or sound it has heard, anytime it likes, perfectly
Force Subtype: Weakness is sonic.
Green Dragon ( air )
Climate/Terrain: Temperate and warm forest and underground
Alignment: lawful evil
Information: Green dragons are belligerent and tend to attack without provocation. Their fierce, toothy jaws and arrogant crests warn other creatures of their aggressive nature.
A wyrmling green dragons scales are thin, very small, and a deep shade of green that appears nearly black. As the dragon ages, the scales grow larger and lighter, turning shades of forest, emerald, and olive green which helps it blend in with its wooded surroundings. Clusters of hornlets at the brows and chin enhance the fearsome appearance.
Green dragons make their lairs in forests; the older the forest and bigger the trees, the better. They prefer caves in cliffs or hillsides and can be detected by the stinging odor of chlorine. Although they have been known to eat practically anything, including shrubs and small trees when they are hungry enough, green dragons especially prize elves and sprites.
Breath Weapon: A green dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of corrosive gas.
Water Breathing: The dragon can breath underwater indefinitely and freely use it's breath weapon, spells, and other abilities while submerged.
Force subtype: Weakness is fire.
Red Dragon ( fire )
Climate/Terrain: Temperate and warm hills, mountains, and underground
Alignment: chaotic evil
Information: Red dragons are the most covetous of all dragons, forever seeking to increase their treasure hoards. They are exceptionally vain, which is reflected in their proud bearing, and disdainful expression.
The small scales of wyrmlings are a bright glossy scarlet, making them easily spotted by predators and hunters, so they stay underground and do not venture outside until they are more able to take care of themselves. Toward the end of their young stage, the scales turn a deeper red, and the glossy texture is replaced by a smooth, dull finish. As the dragon grows older, the scales become large, thick, and strong as metal. The neck frill and wings are an ash blue or purple grey towards the edges, becoming darker with age. The pupils of a red dragon fade as it ages; the oldest red dragons have eyes that resemble molten lava orbs.
Red dragons lair in large caves that extend deep into the earth, which shimmer with the heat of their bodies and are marked by a sulfurous, smoky odor. However, they always have a high perch nearby from which to haughtily survey their territory, which they consider to be everything in sight. This high perch sometimes intrudes upon the territory of a silver dragon, and for this reason red dragons and silver dragons are often enemies.
Red dragons are meat eaters by preference, and their favorite food is a human or elven youth. Sometimes they charm villagers into regularly sacrificing maidens to them.
Breath Weapon: A red dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of fire.
Fire Subtype: Weakness is cold/ice.
White Dragon ( cold )
Climate/Terrain: Any cold land and underground
Alignment: chaotic evil
Information: Among the smallest and least intelligent of dragonkind, most white dragons are simply animalistic predators. Their faces express single-minded ferocity rather than the shrewdness of their more powerful kin.
The scales of a wyrmling white dragon glisten like mirrors. As the dragon ages, the sheen disappears, and by very old age, scales of pale blue and light grey are mixed in with the white. A white dragon is distinguished by a beaked, crested head and is accompanied by a crisp, faintly chemical odor.
White dragons lairs are usually icy caves and deep subterranean chambers that open away from the warming rays of the sun. They store all of their treasure within the lair, preferably in caverns coated in ice, which reflect the gems. White dragons are especially fond of diamonds.
Although white dragons, as all others, are able to eat nearly anything, they are very particular and will consume only food that has been frozen. Usually a dragon devours a creature killed by its breath weapon while the carcass is still stiff and frigid. It buries other kills in snow banks until they are suitably frozen.
White dragons natural enemies are frost giants, who kill the dragons for food and armor and capture them to use as guards.
Breath Weapon: A white dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of cold.
Cold Subtype: Weakness is fire.
METALLIC
Metallic dragons make up the good branch of dragonkind but are every bit as aggressive as their evil cousins when threatened or challenged.
They also tend to be covetous and proud.
Brass Dragon ( fire )
Climate/Terrain: Temperate and warm desert, plains, and underground
Alignment: chaotic good
Information: Brass dragons are talkative and have supple, expressive lips. They may have useful information, but usually only share it after long rambling and hinting for a gift.
At birth, a brass dragons scales are a dull, mottled brown. As the dragon gets older, the scales become more brassy until they reach a warm, burnished appearance. Their grand head plates are smooth and metallic, and they sport bladed chin horns that grow sharper with age. Wings and frills are mottled green towards the edges, darkening with age. As the dragon grows older, its pupils fade until the eyes resemble molten metal orbs.
Brass dragons love intense, dry heat and spend most of their time basking in the desert sun. They are accompanied by a tangy metallic odor or sandy odor. They lair in high caves, preferably facing east to enjoy the morning warmth, and their territories always contain several spots where they can sunbathe and trap unwary travelers in conversation.
Brass dragons can and will eat almost anything if the need arises, but normally consume very little. They are able to get nourishment from the morning dew, a rare commodity in their habitat, and have been seen carefully lifting it off plants with their long tongues.
Because they share the same habitat, blue dragons are brass dragons' worst enemies. The larger blues have the advantage in one on one confrontations, so brass dragons usually try to evade them until they can rally their neighbors for a mass attack.
Breath Weapon: A brass dragon has one types of breath weapon, a line of fire.
Fire Subtype: Weakness is cold/ice.
Bronze Dragon ( water )
Climate/Terrain: Temperate and warm aquatic and underground
Alignment: lawful good
Information: Bronze dragons are inquisitive and enjoy polymorphing into small, friendly animals to observe adventurers. They are fascinated by warfare, eagerly joining an army for a just cause - and good pay.
A bronze wyrmling's scales are yellow tinged with green, showing only a hint of bronze. As the dragon approaches adulthood, its color deepens slowly to a darker, rich bronze tone. Very old dragons develop a blue black tint to the edges of their scales. Powerful swimmers, they have webbed feet and smooth, flat scales. It's pupils fade as a dragon ages, until in the oldest the eyes resemble glowing green orbs.
Bronze dragons like to be near deep fresh water or salt water. They often visit the depths to cool off or hunt for pearls and sunken treasure. They prefer caves that are only accessible from the water, but their lairs are always dry - they do not lay eggs, sleep, or store treasure underwater. A smell of sea spray lingers about them. Bronze dragons eat aquatic plants and some varieties of seafood. They especially prize shark meat. They also dine on the occasional pearl.
Breath Weapon: Bronze dragons have one type of breath weapon, a line of lightning.
Water Breathing: The dragon can breath underwater indefinitely and freely use it's breath weapon, spells, and other abilities while submerged.
Element subtype: Weakness is earth.
Copper Dragon ( earth )
Climate/Terrain: Temperate and warm desert, hill, mountains, and underground
Alignment: chaotic good
Information: Copper dragons are incorrigible pranksters, joke tellers, and riddlers. Most are good natured but also have a covetous, miserly streak. They are powerful jumpers and climbers, with massive thighs and shoulders.
At birth, a copper dragons scales have a ruddy brown color with a metallic tint. As the dragon gets older, the scales become finer and more coppery, assuming a soft warm gloss by the young adult stage. Very old dragons' scales pick up a green tint. A copper dragons pupils fade with age, and the eyes of a great wyrms resemble glowing turquoise orbs.
Copper dragons like dry, rocky uplands and mountains. They lair in narrow caves, and often conceal the entrances using move earth and stone shape. Within the lair, they construct twisting mazes with open tops that allow the dragon to fly or jump over intruders.
Copper dragons are determined hunters, considering good sport at least as important as the food. They are known to eat almost anything, including metal ores. However, they prize monstrous scorpions and other large, poisonous creatures (they say the venom sharpens their wit). The dragons digestive system can handle the venom safely, although injected venoms affect them normally.
Because copper dragons often inhabit hills in sight of red dragons lairs, conflicts between the two varieties are inevitable. The smaller copper dragons usually run for cover until they can even the odds.
Breath Weapon: A copper dragon has one type of breath weapon, a line of acid.
Element subtype: Weakness is electricity.
Gold Dragon ( fire )
Climate/Terrain: Any land and underground
Alignment: lawful good
Information: Gold dragons are graceful, sinuous, and wise. They hate injustice and foul play, often embarking on self appointed quests to promote good. A gold dragon usually assumes human or animal guise.
On hatching, a gold dragons scales are dark yellow with golden metallic flecks. The flecks get larger as the dragon matures until, at the adult stage, the scales grow completely golden. Gold dragons faces are bewhiskered and sagacious, as they age their pupils fade until the eyes resemble pools of molten gold. They smell of saffron and incense.
Gold dragons can live anywhere. Their lairs are secluded and always made of stone, whether caves or castles. These usually have loyal guards: animals appropriate to the terrain, storm giants, or good cloud giants. Giants usually form a mutual defensive agreement with the gold dragon.
Gold dragons usually sustain themselves on pearls or small gems. Such gifts are well received - so long as they are not bribes.
Breath Weapon: A gold dragon has one form of breath weapon, a cone of fire.
Fire Subtype: Weakness is cold/ice.
Water Breathing: The dragon can breath underwater indefinitely and freely use it's breath weapon, spells, and other abilities while submerged (the cone of fire becomes a cone of superheated steam while underwater).
Silver Dragon ( air )
Climate/Terrain: Temperate and warm mountains and underground
Alignment: lawful good
Information: Silver dragons are regal and statuesque. They cheerfully assist good creatures in genuine need and often take the forms of kindly old men or fair damsels when associating with humans.
A silver wyrmling's scales are blue grey with silver highlights. As the dragon approaches adulthood, its color slowly brightens until the individual scales are scarcely visible. From a distance, these dragons look like they have been sculpted from pure metal. They are sometimes known as "Shield Dragons" because of the silvery plates on their heads. As a silver dragon grows older, its pupils fade until in the oldest the eyes resemble orbs of mercury.
Silver dragons prefer aerial lairs on secluded mountain peaks or amid the clouds themselves. A faint smell of rain always accompanies them. Even in clouds, though, the lair always has an enchanted area with a solid floor for laying eggs and storing treasure.
Silver dragons seem to prefer human form to their own, and they often have mortal companions, even forming deep friendships. Inevitably, however, a dragon resumes it's true form and departs for a time. Silver dragons have a taste for human food and can live on such fare indefinitely.
Because they lair in similar territories, silver and red dragons often come into conflict. Duels between the two varieties are furious and deadly, but silver dragons generally get the upper hand by working together against their foes, often with human allies.
Breath Weapon: A silver dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of cold.
Cloud Walking: The dragon can tread on clouds or fog as though on solid ground. The ability functions continuously but can be negated or resumed at will.
Element subtype: Weakness is sonic.

Breath Weapon: Cone of blasting sand.
Elemental Subtype: Weakness is cold/ice.
GEM
Gem dragons are a subcategory of dragons that spend much of their time on the Inner Planes. All are psionically powerful, although to most observers their psychic talents are indistinguishable from sorcery. Gem dragons tend to be aloof, solitary, and self centered.
Amethyst Dragon ( earth )
Climate/Terrain: Inner Planes, underground
Alignment: neutral
Information: Amethyst dragons are wise and regal. They sometimes serve as intermediaries between warring dragons, or even humanoid civilizations.
An amethyst dragon has lavender skin and scales that are shaped like naturally formed mineral crystals. When it first hatches, it's scales are a light, translucent purple shade. As it grows older, they gradually darken and take on a crystalline quality.
Most amethyst dragons live in hollowed-out spaces on the Elemental Plane of Earth. These caverns can consist of many passages and chambers resplendent with crystals of all colors.
Breath Weapon: An amethyst dragon has one breath weapon, a line of concussive force.
Element subtype: Weakness is water
Crystal Dragon ( air )
Climate/Terrain: Inner Planes, temperate and cold mountains

A wyrmling crystal dragons scales are glossy white. As it ages, its scales become translucent. Moonlight and starlight case them to luminesce, and full sunlight lends them a dazzling brilliance.
Crystal dragons prefer the Elemental Plane of Air, but they sometimes build incredible ice palaces atop high, cold mountain peaks on the Material Plane, where they can watch the starts and create sculptures out of ice and snow.
White dragons and crystal dragons sometimes come into conflict. Crystal dragons have been known to make off with white dragon eggs, possibly to foster the white wyrmlings and help them grow into friendlier dragons than they would otherwise become. Such white dragons are extremely rare. Crystal dragons tend to bear great enmity toward any local giants, since the latter occasionally join forces with white dragons to hunt for crystal dragon lairs or wyrmlings.
Breath Weapon: A crystal dragons breath weapon is a cone of brilliant light.
Force Subtype: Weakness is electricity.
Emerald Dragon ( air )
Climate/Terrain: Inner Planes, underground
Alignment: lawful neutral
Information: Emerald dragons are inquisitive, particularly about local history and customs. Often, their knowledge of particular areas surpasses that of the best sage. However, these dragons are also rather paranoid, so developing even a passing acquaintance with one can be quite difficult.
The scales of a wyrmling emerald dragon are translucent and sea-green. As it ages, its scales harden and take on every shade of green from deep emerald to mint, and they scintillate in even the dimmest light. An emerald dragons pupils fade as it ages, so by the time it becomes a great wyrm, its eyes are featureless, glowing, green orbs.
The typical emerald dragon likes to settle near an area that is at least partly inhabited by civilized beings ( of any type ), but not so near that its presence becomes generally known. On the Material Plane, such dragons make their lairs in the extinct ( or seldom active ) volcanoes. While on the Inner Planes, these dragons still watch their favored Material Plane spots.
Emerald dragons nurture their wyrmlings, so any given lair of a young adult or older dragon is likely to include at least one wyrmling.
Breath Weapon: An emerald dragon breathes a cone of keening sonic energy.
Force Subtype: Weakness is electricity.
Sapphire Dragon ( earth )
Climate/Terrain: Inner Planes, underground
Alignment: lawful neutral
Information: Sapphire dragons are quite territorial, particularly when it comes to other dragons that encroach on their territories, either on the Elemental Plane of Earth, or in the areas of the Material Plane that they call their own.
Sapphire dragons tend to be antisocial toward all beings, but they view the evil races of the Underdark as particular enemies and sometimes come into direct conflict with them over underground territory. These dragons don't go in for small talk unless the discussion revolves around military strategy, a subject on which they consider themselves experts, if not geniuses. In fact, a sapphire dragon may forgive visitors their presence if they offer it a game of strategy. Of course, it is never wise to let the dragon lose.
A sapphire dragons scales range from light to dark blue in color, and they scintillate in any light, creating a cascade of ghostly glints on the walls of the caverns in which these creatures often lair. Unlike the scales of other gem dragons, those of a sapphire dragon do not change as the creature ages. Its pupils fade with time however, so by the time it becomes a great wyrm, its eyes are featureless, glowing, sapphire orbs.
Sapphire dragons love the Elemental Plane of Earth, but they also like to lair in deep, dry, rocky caverns on the Material Plane. Inside, it spreads out its treasures through several chambers, arranging them in a somewhat decorative manner. Drow, illithid, and aboleth trophies are often prominently displayed to remind the dragon of its past victories over its enemies. A sapphire dragon often allows large monstrous spiders to roam its lair, but only as a handy source of food. To keep such creatures close, the dragon also frequently allows their favorite prey species to inhabit portions of its lair.

Spider Climb: A sapphire dragon can climb up stone surfaces much like a spider. This ability is always active.
Force Subtype: Weakness is light.
Topaz Dragon ( water )
Climate/Terrain: Inner Planes, any aquatic

Information: Topaz dragons tend to be unfriendly and selfish. Though they are not malevolent, their erratic behavior makes any dealings with them unpleasant and dangerous.
A topaz wyrmlings scales are dull yellow with orange highlights. As it ages, its color slowly brightens until its individual scales become scarcely visible. From a distance, the creature looks as if it had been sculpted from pure topaz. A topaz dragons pupils fades as it ages, so by the time it becomes a great wyrm, its eyes resemble glowing orbs of fire.
Topaz dragons spend most of their time on the Elemental Plane of water. During their brief forays onto the Material Plane, they lair on secluded beaches or caves below the waterline. Even on the Elemental Plane of Water however, topaz dragons keep their lairs completely dry.
These dragons love to lounge on outcroppings that are lashed by waves and wind blasted sea spray. Of course, such vantages also allow them to spot passing prey, such as sharks and large squids.
Because they inhabit similar territories, topaz dragons and bronze dragons often come into conflict. Duels between the two are always furious and deadly.
Breath Weapon: A topaz dragons breathes a cone of dehydration that looks like a watery blast. When directed against an aqueous ( water or a liquid composed mainly of water ), this effect evaporates five cubic feet of water.
Water Breathing: Topaz dragons breath water as readily as air.
Force Subtype: Weakness is electricity.
PLANAR
In addition to the many dragon species native to the Material Plane, a number of dragons hail from other planes, particularly the Outer Planes. Collectively referred to as planar dragons, these creatures hail from planes as diverse as Limbo, Acheron, Ysgard, and even the Ethereal Plane.
Unlike most other true dragons, planar dragons are not innate spellcasters; though they have a variety of spell-like powers, they don't have the natural affinity for sorcery that their Material Plane relatives have.
Battle Dragon ( Extraplanar )
Environment: Heroic Domains of Ysgard
Alignment: Always neutral good
Information: Battle dragons are glorious creatures that exult in valorous combat. They often serve as steeds for powerful warriors.
A battle dragon at rest has a dull brown sheen to its scales. However, as soon as it takes wing, allowing the sun to strike its armored skin - it gleams like the finest gold.
Battle dragons are notorious optimists, and always seem to find the silver lining to any cloud. This emotion is often contagious, as they inspire others to bravery and valor in battle.
By juvenile age, battle dragons may find use as steeds for small riders. Young adult and older dragons can serve medium riders. Some cities or knightly orders have reached mutual protection and assistance accords with nearby battle dragon families, as generation after generation of rider finds an ally within the same line of dragons.
Battle dragons speak Common, Draconic, and Celestial.
Breath Weapon: A battle dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of sonic energy.
Force Subtype: Weakness is electricity.
Chaos Dragon ( Chaos, Extraplanar )
Environment: Ever-changing Chaos of Limbo
Alignment: Always chaotic good/neutral/evil
Information: The very personification of unpredictability, a chaos dragon is a whirling cyclone of barely controlled power.
No two chaos dragons look exactly alike, and some people claim that even the same chaos dragon changes its form over time. while all dragons are roughly the same in appearance - four powerful clawed limbs, mighty wings, long serpentine neck topped by a mouth full of dagger sharp teeth, jagged-edged tail - each has unique markings that differentiate it from others of its kind.
In general, chaos dragons seek to tear down structured societies and civilizations. Those that tend toward good might use positive means to effect change, but those tending to evil are merely violent and murderous.
For a brief period of time, a sect of githzerai attempted to make a pact with the chaos dragons, thinking that they could use them, just as their enemies - the githyanki, employed red dragons. The chaos dragons innate unpredictability and disloyalty ensured the failure of this effort, though the two kinds of creatures may still be encountered side by side in rare instances.
A chaos dragon speaks Draconic or even Celestial ( chaotic good, and some chaotic neutral dragons only ) or Abyssal ( chaotic evil, and some chaotic neutral dragons only ).
Breath Weapon: A chaos dragon has one type of breath weapon, a line of energy. To determine *what* energy the dragon emits, a roll of 1d100 must be made, before the dragon breathes.
01 - 20 = acid
21 - 40 = cold
41 - 60 = electricity
61 - 80 = fire
81 - 100 = sonic
The dragon itself doesn't even know what type of energy it will emit before it even breathes - so no, you cannot choose which one to use!
Chaos Subtype: Weakness is holy.
Ethereal Dragon ( Extraplanar )
Environment: Ethereal Plane
Alignment: neutral
Information: Ethereal dragons spend most of their lives floating through the Ethereal Plane, spying into the Material Plane for valuable treasure.
Ethereal dragons natural coloration is a pearlescent brown-grey, which accounts for their nickname of "moon-stone dragon". They have needlelike claws and teeth.
Ethereal dragons are naturally curious and inquisitive, and often spy on those "stuck" on the Material Plane. They are also greedy, and may come to covet the valuables carried by those they spy upon. In such cases, an ethereal dragon might visit the Material Plane only to appropriate such items, returning to its native Ethereal Plane as soon as possible.
Ethereal dragons speak Draconic.
Breath Weapon: An ethereal dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of force.
Ethereal Vision: While on the Material Plane, a very young or older ethereal dragon can see ethereal creatures as if they were visible. While on the Ethereal Plane, an ethereal dragon can see normally for about 60 feet.
Force Subtype: Weakness is earth.
Howling Dragon ( Extraplanar )
Environment: Windswept Depths of Pandemonium
Alignment: Always chaotic evil or chaotic neutral
Information: Native to the windswept plane of Pandemonium, howling dragons are brilliant, scheming, and quite insane.
A howling dragon is long and slender, with short, thin legs and narrow wings. Long spines form a frill behind its head, and twin clusters of similar spines sprout from its shoulders. Its scales are mottled purple and black, darkening as the dragon ages. Its yellow eyes are large and feral looking, with tiny pupils.
Howling dragons make their lairs in isolated caverns amid the twisting tunnels of their native plane. When they find their way to the Material Plane, they seek out similar terrain, and are thus usually encountered far underground. They roam widely in the territory surrounding their lair, exploring every narrow crevice or tunnel.
Howling dragons feed on any creatures they can catch - living, undead, or even construct. They enjoy the sensation of biting into a still-moving morsel.
Breath Weapon: A howling dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of howling sound ( sonic damage ).
Force Subtype: Weakness is electricity.
Oceanus Dragon ( Aquatic, Extraplanar )
Environment: Any Upper Plane
Alignment: neutral good
Information: The Oceanus dragon protects travelers along the River Oceanus, which connects the Upper Planes in the same manner that the River Styx links the Lower Planes, while jealously guarding its domain against evil creatures of all kinds.
Oceanus dragons appear much like great winged eels, with relatively short limbs ending in webbed fingers.
Though capable of flight, most Oceanus dragons prefer life in the water to that in the air.
The typical lair of an Oceanus dragon is a hidden cave, either along a riverbank or completely underwater. Most Oceanus dragons spend little time in their lairs, instead patrolling a stretch of river in search of good-aligned creatures in need of assistance, or evil creatures in need of punishment.
Oceanus dragons speak Celestial, Draconic, and Aquan.
Breath Weapon: An Oceanus dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of cold.
Amphibious: Although Oceanus dragons are aquatic, they can survive indefinitely on land.
Water Breathing: An Oceanus dragon can breath underwater indefinitely and can freely use its breath weapon, spell-like abilities, and other abilities while submerged.
Element Subtype: Weakness is electricity.
Pyroclastic Dragon ( Extraplanar )
Environment: Bleak Eternity of Gehenna
Alignment: Always evil
Information: Pyroclastic dragons are creatures of elemental fury, embodying the forces of fire, earth, and rumbling thunder, that move earth and shape continents. They are native to the Bleak Eternity of Gehenna, an infinite plane of volcanic earthbergs and infernal lava.
A pyroclastic dragon is solidly built and powerfully muscled, conveying a sense of immovability. Its scales resemble fractured obsidian and glowing magma, forming a mottled pattern of reds, oranges, blacks and grays over its entire body. Its large wings seem almost to be made of ash, but despite their flimsy appearance they are quite capable of bearing the dragons great weight aloft.
Pyroclastic dragons enjoy swimming through magma, but they make their lairs in caves carved out of volcanic rock. When they venture to the Material Plane, they live only in the volcanic regions.
These dragons enjoy the taste of meat but can also subsist on a purely mineral diet.

Its proud, regal bearing is unmistakable, and its voice rings out like heavenly thunder.
Radiant dragons prefer lairs that allow plenty of sunlight, and often place gems and other bright valuables in places where they can catch and refract the light, creating marvelous displays of color and radiance. To creatures that display nobility and justice, they are the staunchest of allies, offering succor and healing to any in need. Rust Dragon ( Extraplanar )
Environment: Infernal Battlefield of Acheron
Alignment: Always lawful evil or lawful neutral
Information: Native to the Infernal Battlefield of Acheron, rust dragons are creatures of tarnished metal, embodying forces of decay and corruption. Some Material Plane sages posit some connection between these fiendish monstrosities and the relatively innocuous rust monster, but the rational mind correctly sees these claims as the ravings of deranged lunatics.
Rust dragons bear a strong resemblance to the metallic dragons of the Material Plane, but appear covered in rust, tarnish, or verdigris. though some rust dragons resemble copper dragons and others silver or brass, individual rust dragons abilities do not differ. Their scales appear pitted and lined with corrosive color, and the membranes of their wings are very thin and iridescent.
On there native plane of Acheron, rust dragons have an ample food supply in the endless iron cubes the size of continents floating in the void. When drawn to the Material Plane, rust dragons seek out veins of metal in underground caverns, making them particularly loathed by miners.
Rust dragons feed on corroded metal, but enjoy fresh meat ( particularly vermin ) to cleanse the palate between ores.

One of the few creatures immune to the harmful effects of the river, Styx dragons swim with impunity across the top layers of all the Lower Planes, feasting on fiends and any other creatures they can find and catch.
A Styx dragon has a long serpentine body with tiny, flipper like claws that are useless on land and in combat. Its wings are too small to carry it aloft, but help to propel it through the water. Its tail splits into two long, bladed whips that it can use to slash and grab its prey. A Styx dragons scales are slimy and range from dark brown to rusty red in color. Its eyes glow with a lurid yellow light.
Styx dragons make their lairs by burrowing into the mud on the banks of the Styx. They do not like to leave their native plane, but if forcibly brought to the Material Plane, it will thrive in fetid water.
Styx dragons normally subsist on the flesh of fiends, but enjoy eating any meat - particularly rotting carrion.

Tarterian dragons are skeletally gaunt, with leathery scales stretched tight over withered-looking flesh. Their wings have a tattered appearance, though they can fly fast and ably. There teeth and claws are long and black, while their scales form a striped pattern of black, gray, and olive green. Ghostly green light flickers in their black eyes, and their faces seem to wear a perpetual sneering grin.
Tarterian dragons inhabit a wide range of habitats on their native plane of Carceri, from the steaming jungles of Cathrys ( the second layer ) to the cruel mountains of Colothys ( the fourth ). Similarly, when they make their way to the Material Plane they can dwell comfortably in a variety of locals, both above and under the ground. OTHERS
Brown Dragon ( earth )
Climate/Terrain: Any desert
Alignment: Usually neutral evil
Information: Brown dragons, also known as great desert dragons, are ferocious, wingless dragons that burrow beneath the desert sands.
Brown dragons have scales the color of desert sands, ranging from dim brown at hatching to almost white in their old age. They have small, webbed claws that are well developed for digging, and very large, long mouths. Their scales are leathery and not as hard as other dragons hides.
While intelligent, brown dragons view humans and their kin as food, and find the idea of conversing with their food peculiar. They can subsist on a mineral diet-even sand-for long periods of time, but prefer meat ( particularly horseflesh ).
Brown dragons carve out vast cavern chambers deep below the desert sand, typically at least 1,000 feet down. They are the hated enemies of blue dragons, who compete with them for territory and treasure.
Tremorsense: Brown dragons can automatically sense the location of anything within 500 feet that is in contact with the ground.
Breath Weapon: A sapphire dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of acid. It does not use this attack against mounted foes, since it knows that horses are good eating.
Element Subtype: Weakness is water.
Deep Dragon ( earth )
Climate/Terrain: Underground
Alignment: chaotic evil
Information: Deep dragons are little known on the surface world. They are the hunters of the Underdark, stalking their prey with cunning patience.
Deep dragons are an iridescent maroon when they hatch, darkening to deep, rich purple and almost black in the dragons older centuries. Their natural forms are slender and serpentine, with sinuous necks and limbs and narrow wings. They are accomplished shapechangers however, gaining the ability to assume different forms as they age - first a legless winged snake form, then a humanoid form. In these shapes, they make their way through narrow tunnels or move about among the other races of the Underdark.
Deep dragons are great explorers and sometimes venture to the surface world - though usually in pursuit of stolen treasure, revenge on their foes, or magic to steal. Otherwise, they are found in trapped, well defended lairs in the Underdark.
The "drakes of the depths" can eat almost anything, but they seem to prefer "seafood": clams, fish, kuo-toa, and aboleth.
Breath Weapon: A deep dragons breath weapon is a cone of flesh-corrosive acid.
Element Subtype: Weakness is water.
Fang Dragon ( air )
Climate/Terrain: Any mountains
Alignment: chaotic neutral
Information: Fang dragons are greedy, rapacious, and cunning creatures.
Their bodies are armored with bony plates that rise into projecting spurs at limb joints and end in long, forked tails tipped with a pair of scythe like bone blades. They fly poorly, but can rise with a single clap of their wings to lunge forward. Their body plates are a mottled grey and brown, their wings are small but muscled, and their eyes tend to be glittering red or orange. Fang dragons heads are adorned with many small horns and spikes.
Fang dragons prefer to seek food far from their lairs, which they typically wall up with huge boulders to keep out intruders in their absence. They speak snippets of many languages and will bargain to avoid hopeless or hard battles. They are prone to random violence and outbursts of rage.
Fang dragons eat all manner of fresh meat, especially enjoying the flesh of intelligent mammals.
Ability Drain: A fang dragon does not have a breath weapon, but it's bite does +5 damage for that round.
Sound Imitation: A fang dragon can mimic a sound it has heard, anytime it likes. Listeners must make a successful save ( 2d20 ) to detect the ruse.
Element Subtype: Weakness is electricity.
Shadow Dragon ( shadow )
Climate/Terrain: Underground
Alignment: chaotic evil
Information: Shadow dragons are sly and devious creatures with ties to the Plane of Shadow.
Shadow dragons have translucent scales and dark bodies, giving them an indistinct appearance - from a distance, they seem to be nothing but a foreboding mass of shadows.
Shadow dragons are most often encountered in the deepest reaches of the lower Underdark - at least ten miles below the surface - where ties to the Plane of Shadow are strongest.
Breath Weapon: A shadow dragons breath weapon is a cone of billowing, smoky shadows with an energy drain effect.
Shadow Blend: During any conditions other than full daylight, a shadow dragon can disappear into the shadows. Artificial illumination does not negate this ability.
Force Subtype: Weakness is light.
Song Dragon ( electricity )
Climate/Terrain: Any land
Alignment: either chaotic good or chaotic neutral
Information: Song dragons are a rare and mysterious race of dragons that prefer life among humanity to the company of other dragons. They can freely take on the form of a human woman, and in this guise they live among humankind, revealing their true nature only in times of personal peril or great crisis.
In their natural form, song dragons are slim and splendid dragons with iridescent silver-blue scales and the general shape of a copper dragon. In human form, they appear to be attractive women of 20 - 30 years in age. They retain full knowledge and awareness regardless of form, and most are consummate actors, so that humans are usually unaware of a song dragons identity.
Tongues: Song dragons can communicate in any language through the use of an innate tongues ability that is always active.
Breath Weapon: A song dragon has one type of breath weapon, a line of lightening.
Force subtype: Weakness is sonic.

On the Material Plane, such dragons make their lairs in the extinct ( or seldom active ) volcanoes. While on the Inner Planes, these dragons still watch their favored Material Plane spots.
