Dunsany proved to be a less than forgettable kingdom for the minstrel since the incident involving the newly crowned Vampire King. That king would no doubt be a rather noticeable thorn in the side of any nation he set his sights on. If not for Aaron's blatant show of necromancy Girard may well not have given the matter as much thought as he had by this time.
Time enough to drag his own sorry hide to his contact within the Arcanum Guardians: Ercil Surtas. The arcanist certainly had proven a curious source for Girard's more scholarly past-times and certainly could claim partial rights as the 'other-creator' of many of the noctumancy developed of late away from the tutelage of the Nightsinger. This bespectacled man was who Girard went in source of no less than a handful of days after the incident practically scorched the kingdom of Dunsany and its princes into his mind.
" I told you I've only been able to find a scattered few references to the kingdom, Ercil. None of those references made any mention of a crown capable of giving a restless soul corporeal form, much less necromantic spells capable of raising an army. “His understanding of magic could not be called the most whole, much less leading beyond the limits of his personal acquisition of shadowy arcana.
Ercil, in his usual demure manner, spoke not a word to the talkative spellsinger as the tome on his desk continued to have its pages flipped through. The aging arcanist proved lacking in conversation until he set a fingertip beneath a paticular sentence of the current page and once he'd finished looked up to Girard. “Yes, yes we have been over this Mister Sirri. We know only of Dunsany, a little of its last two kings and that business of assassination among the royal family from your organization's encounter. "
Girard took a few moments; he did not know too much about the surrounding nations, Sarkotos much less much of Kullyr and Alzorc. What the minstrel was comfortable in assuming what that were there were old kingdoms, there were often old battle sights. What kingdom got away from history without some sort of battle marring their lands? “We know the general information of the castle and the kingdom.. " Least as much as could be pried out of however many old tomes by this time of day. “What about the rest of the territory surrounding what use of be Dunsany? Battlefields, graveyards, places where people have died and been buried.. “Well Aaron had to be getting that skeleton army from somewhere if he wasn't just conjuring them up from nothing!
The arcanist gave Girard a neutral glance at the suggestion as his own attentions became involved with his tomes again. A good deal of time later found the aging man giving a 'hmm..' to the otherwise silent room. “Could be plenty of those kinds of places. Could you learn more of the spirits of the other two brothers, Kelleth and.. oh bother what was that other one's name...Durgal..Durthal.. well the third one, if you returned to the tomb to speak with them? You never mentioned if they were put to rest or remain in the tomb at their brother's mercies I might add. "
Well that was a rather chilling sort off thought the old man had to bring in to Girard's mind. If the other brothers had not been put to rest with the coronation than they were indeed at Aaron's mercies. Kelleth at the very least had sounded sincere in his talk of not wanting a tyrant to take the crown, and if the artifact-like crown would likely have done the same to any one of them.. who could say if Kelleth would have made for the usual sort of tyrannical undead if he'd acquired the crown? After all Girard knew some undead could be quite present, except ghouls.. ghouls were never pleasant. “I could try to learn more, yet that won't change what Aaron is doing. Eventually he'll have to be dealt with .. before he starts commanding that army of his towards war against the current kingdoms and nations. There is enough wrong with the word without giving more reason for the common folk to fear for their lives. Maybe I should speak with some of my comrades about this.. “This likely amounted to Evangeline only, considering his dislike of Baldur and his lack of knowledge of Fenris’s whereabouts when not electing to adventure at Maria’s behest.
“You do that Mister Sirri, I for one rather enjoy the status quo here, I'd be rather unhappy if that was ruined by some ancient undead king and his skeleton army. Make sure your organization takes care of its loose ends, yes? Oh, and to answer your question there should be plenty of burial grounds in northern Kullyr for him to draw plenty of skeletons from with time. You should act fairly quickly to that Mister Sirri. Before he realizes skeletons can be made into bone golems, yes? "
" Cheery thought, Ercil. “Said the now frowning minstrel by the time he finally turned away from the old arcanist to set his mind to other things. Like taking his leave of the old man's abode.
