a vision bereft: Mission (taken from the Roleplaying Hints section): Saving
a Lost Child
a vision bereft: Hint: A child is lost somewhere in a northern forest --
time is running out before he will die of exposure.
a vision bereft: Go ahead and state your info.

a vision bereft: A child was lost in the forests of northern Sarkotos.
Granted, it was not as cold as it was in kingdoms further north, but as far
as anyone knew the six year old was not prepared for the chill of night. He'd
wandered off, chasing
a vision bereft: a dog that had been sniffing around the home for a few
days, his mother had seen him running along the back garden after the dog
before dinner and when she called him in, he was nowhere to be found nor was
that dog. So, word was
a vision bereft: sent out for assistance, which Kyle and Elle had apparently
answered and Maria had sent them via teleport right to the farm! (Begin)
a merciful edge: Of course Kyle and Elle had answered the call for help!
They were the heroes of the story, weren't they? He certainly wouldn't give
that title to some of the others he'd seen around here. Anyway, he'd got
himself ready to go, and
a merciful edge: made not to probably put off his training another night,
depending on how this went. Even if it went well, he may not be physically
prepared for a night of training, but if it went worse, well..he wouldn't be
mentally or emotionally
a merciful edge: prepared! Let's hope that didn't happen. And voomph!
Teleported, right to the farm! He'd packed an extra nice warm cloak in his
pack for the kid, and had water if need be, but hopefully Elle had thought of
food.
a vision bereft: Elle always had a little food in her pack, but she'd
brought some extra tonight as well. Her cloak was still gone from being
wrapped around that ghost child, so she'd just dressed more warmly than usual
in a couple layers of
a vision bereft: skirting and layers for the top half as well, with a fur
cap atop her head and gloves on her hands. She stepped out of the portal at
the farm and glanced around, kinda wishing that her pups had grown up enough
to become useful in
a vision bereft: tracking but they were not that lucky. She adjusted the
pack on her back, and moved to the back garden since that was the last place
the child was seen. She began scouring the ground, looking for tracks of any
sort or something that
a vision bereft: would aid them in following.

a vision bereft: Even though there was a gentle cover of newly fallen snow
across the garden, Elle would find the tracks of a four legged animal - dog
more than likely, and small footprints that led northeast into the thick
rocky forest at the base
a merciful edge: While she looked for where to start, he went right up tot
he farm house and knocked on the door! He just wanted to get some more
information, the boy's name, what he looked like, clothing he was wearing,
that sort of thing. Andy'd
a vision bereft: of the mountains.
a merciful edge: be happy to make a diplomacy check if need be.
a vision bereft: No need. The woman was fretful, wringing her hands, and
very happy to find help. She told him that the boy's name was Michael, and he
was wearing brown pants, and a long sleeved white shirt that had a tear, and
had curly dark red
a vision bereft: hair. He was six, and had freckles. And, how she loved him
and would not know how to go on if they could not find him, and she'd give
them anything she had if they'd just bring her little boy hom.
a vision bereft: home*
a merciful edge: And Kyle of course turned on the sympathy, not that it was
an act at all. He took note of the information, nodded and told the woman he
and his friend would do everything they could to bring Michael back, all
those good reassurances
a merciful edge: that probably wouldn't make much difference without the boy
actually being back..and he didn't take too long about it, so they could do
just that! He moved to meet up with Elle where he'd seen her heading off.
"Find anything?"
a vision bereft: She caught sight of the tracks then turned and headed
towards Kyle, waiting for him to finish talking to the mother. "We'll find
him," she softly assured the woman, then turned to Kyle, "I found tracks, dog
and child, moving
a vision bereft: northeast into the woods." She moved along till she could
point out the indentations under the snow, then looked up into the sky for a
moment, eyes glancing to the moons, then towards the way they needed to go.
"Ready?"
a merciful edge: He squinted down at the ground until he saw the tracks and
nodded once, took note of the stars and moons to hopefully help with
navigation, then nodded. "Ready when you are." Perhaps he should've brought
his kitten! He didn't know
a merciful edge: would do, but he figured anything was a better tracker than
he was. Oh well, hopefully Elle could help make up the difference.
a vision bereft: Elle would try her best to follow the tracks, she wasn't
trained in such a thing though! Out of the back garden they'd move, following
the tracks into the forest. All the leaves that had littered the ground from
autumn would no
a vision bereft: doubt making following even harder now they reached the
woods. Plus, dark woods at night.... probably wasn't all that safe anyway.
a vision bereft: Both roll a search.

a vision bereft: Joelle lost the track, but thankfully, Kyle was able to
find the child's footprints, or broken plants and movement through the
forest.
a merciful edge: Well he was focused entirely on the ground and slightly
above it, that was probably why! He kept following the path, trying his best
not to lose it, but of course that meant he wasn't paying much attention to
anything else.
a vision bereft: Whatever she was paying attention to, well, it wasn't the
right thing because as they breached the forest she lost track of the
footprints of both dog and child. But thankfully, Kyle had it under control
and she moved in behind him
a vision bereft: and began to keep an eye on the woods around them and let
him do the tracking. She also began calling out the boy's name. Maybe he
wasn't far, but he'd fallen and was too hurt to come home? It was very rocky,
after all. "Michael!"
a merciful edge: Well, he hadn't wanted to start calling until he lost the
trail, just in case something hostile was nearby! On the other hand, if
someothing hostile IS nearby, well..it probably knew they were around before
the calling anyway. He'd
a merciful edge: let her stick with the calling though, while he focused on
following the trail as well as he could.
a vision bereft: True, which was why she figured they needed to start
calling. "Michael!?" She moved away from him, but stayed within sight, and
began looking behind every bush, and behind all the rocks. She tugged her hat
down on her ears, it was
a vision bereft: chilly tonight, and getting even colder which was probably
why the snow had stopped falling, it was just too damn cold for snow now. She
rubbed her gloved hands together, and called out again, then listened
intently for any sort of
a vision bereft: answer. (Listen)

a vision bereft: She stopped moving, and a hand went to the hilt of her seax
as she listened and heard what sounded like something walking around.
Unsheathing her blade, she clicked her tongue towards Kyle trying to warn
him.
a vision bereft: Mmhm he heard it too.
a merciful edge: Well he did hear her unsheathing her blade and clicking her
tongue at least. He stopped and squinted into the darkness, hand moving up to
rest on the hilt of his sword, but he didn't draw it just yet. He tended to
not draw unless
a merciful edge: actually ready to use the weapon, but he was a pretty fast
draw anyway so that hadn't yet come back to bite him.
a vision bereft: Suddenly, from the vegetation ahead of them, burst a
shaggy, dirty dog and began barking at them, it was all foaming at the mouth
and barking like it wanted to eat them or something.
a merciful edge: Oh dear, foaming at the mouth? He'd wandered around amongst
animals enough to have an idea what that meant, so he did draw his sword then
and took a step back from the animal. "Elle, we may have to put this one
down.."
a vision bereft: The bursting of the dog took her by surprise and she yelped
and held her blade out in front of her, though seeing it was a dog, she
frowned...especially seeing the state it was in. "Shall I try to calm it
down?" She had Animal
a vision bereft: Affinity after all!
a merciful edge: "I don't know if it will work. I'd only try it if you don't
have to get too close to it."
a vision bereft: She nodded, and sheathed her blade, and stepped a little
closer to the enraged animal. "Shhhhh, there we go, no reason to be all upset
about anything little pup. I'm your friend. Here to help you." The dog would
probably not
a vision bereft: understand the words, but it was the tone of voice. She
spoke in sylvan, she hoped that might even help her with the animal a little
more. (Animal Affinity DC17 for enraged animal)

the ground with a tilt of it's head as it began to lick it's jowls, then

the ground, whining.
a merciful edge: Well he asn't sure how long that'd last, he was surprised
enough she'd actually calmed the thing down! Not comfortable enough yet to
actually put his sword away, however. He also didn't want to move any closer
for fear of enraging
a merciful edge: the dog again. "Hm. Well now what?"
a vision bereft: "There now, that's better." She moved forward and knelt
down, reaching to brush her hand along the back of the dog's head as she
tried to keep it calm.
a vision bereft: From a bush near Elle, a massive fanged and furry beast
jumped out at Elle, knocking her over and opened it's big mouth trying to
take a bite out of her!

then when she heard it start barking like that she stopped and glanced over

edge of the rocky ledge. He slid to a halt before doing so, however, and held
out an arm to stop

a vision bereft: There was a ledge, and further inspection showed the body
of a child at the base of the ledge. The ledge wasn't more than five or six
feet down, but the boy had taken a tumble and gotten knocked out.
a merciful edge: "Damnit." Without any further ado, he hopped right off that
ledge to land a good bit away from the boy, just to make sure he wouldn't
accidentally land on him, or on any rocks pinning him down if there were such a
thing! Didn't look
a merciful edge: like it from up there, but better safe than sorry,
especially when it was dark.
a vision bereft: Elle stopped, and waited for Kyle to check it out, watching
the dog. She peered down the ledge a little, easing forward after Kyle jumped
down, and gasped as she saw the poor boy. "Is he alive?" She frowned.
a vision bereft: The child was alive, but he was very cold to the touch, he
had no coat on at all. He had some superficial wounds from slipping in the
rocks and had some rubble on him but otherwise was fine.
a merciful edge: Once down, he hurried over and inspected the kid, reaching
to his pack to pull out the extra warm cloak. He carefully picked up the
child and wrapped him up in the cloak to start warming him up, then nodded
and looked up to Elle.
a merciful edge: "He's alive, and as far as I can tell he should be fine.
Took a knock to the head it looks like. You want to check him out before we
move him too far?"
a vision bereft: "Yeah." She jumped down the ledge herself, and knelt by the
child, making sure to keep him covered by the cloak. "Start rubbing his hands
to warm them up slowly, and I'll see about the wounds." She used her natural
affinity for
a vision bereft: healing to heal up the boy's wounds, he'd still be dirty
and cold, but all the scrapes and bruises and head knock would be cured.
a merciful edge: "Right." He pulled off his gloves, just so the boy would
actually get some warmth from his hands, holding them in his teeth while he
rubbed at the boy's hands. His left hand might even be extra warm. Missing
finger would concentrate
a merciful edge: the warmth, right? Ha.
a vision bereft: The boy began to stir as he was healed, then opened his
eyes and immediately the little redheaded boy began to cry and cling to
whoever was closest, "Momma!"
a merciful edge: Goodness! Probably him since he had the kid's hands! He
blinked at that and gave the poor little guy a pat and a rub on the back.
"There there, we'll get you back to your momma, don't worry." More..mumbled
around his gloves than
a vision bereft: "Shhhh Michael, we'll bring you to your mother, you're safe
now. Everythings going to be just fine." She rubbed along his legs and body a
little, just warming him up a little more, then nodded to Kyle and wrapped
him in the cloak
a merciful edge: said clearly.
a vision bereft: again as he clung to Kyle, awwww. "Can you carry him?" She
rose, and looked up towards the dog that was now wagging it's tail. She gave
a nod to the dog, not that it would understand, but said in sylvan, "Thanks

a vision bereft: The boy saved, they'd be able to find themselves back to

a merciful edge: He nodded and shifted the kid to one arm, so he could start
putting his gloves back on. He'd taken to wearing them most of the time,
since he'd gotten nice custom ones with a shortened finger! Seemed to
unsettle people less. "Of

want to say more trouble, or more werewolves, since that'd probably terrify

towards Kyle, waiting for him to finish talking to the mother. "We'll find
him," she softly assured the woman, then turned to Kyle, "I found tracks, dog
and child, moving
a vision bereft: northeast into the woods." She moved along till she could
point out the indentations under the snow, then looked up into the sky for a
moment, eyes glancing to the moons, then towards the way they needed to go.
"Ready?"
a merciful edge: He squinted down at the ground until he saw the tracks and
nodded once, took note of the stars and moons to hopefully help with
navigation, then nodded.
All the leaves that had littered the ground from
autumn would no
a vision bereft: doubt making following even harder now they reached the
woods. Plus, dark woods at night.... probably wasn't all that safe anyway.

a vision bereft: Joelle lost the track, but thankfully, Kyle was able to
find the child's footprints, or broken plants and movement through the
forest.
a merciful edge: Well he was focused entirely on the ground and slightly
above it, that was probably why!
(Listen)

Unsheathing her blade, she clicked her tongue towards Kyle trying to warn

a vision bereft: Mmhm he heard it too.
a merciful edge: Well he did hear her unsheathing her blade and clicking her
tongue at least.
She
spoke in sylvan, she hoped that might even help her with the animal a little
more. (Animal Affinity DC17 for enraged animal)

a merciful edge: Well he asn't sure how long that'd last, he was surprised
enough she'd actually calmed the thing down!

But, the dog stopped and began to bark, then howl, then bark again as it
stood at the top of a

a vision bereft: She jumped and dodged the bushes, and followed the dog,
then when she heard it start barking like that she stopped and glanced over

What's wrong?"
a merciful edge: Well in that case, follow the dog it was. He moved as
quickly as he was able to, which probably meant he about went right over the
edge of the rocky ledge. He slid to a halt before doing so, however, and held
out an arm to stop
a merciful edge: Joelle from doing the same, in case she was in danger of
it. And he looked to what the dog was barking at, to see what he could see!

a vision bereft: There was a ledge, and further inspection showed the body
of a child at the base of the ledge.
She gave
a nod to the dog, not that it would understand, but said in sylvan, "Thanks
pup."
a vision bereft: The boy saved, they'd be able to find themselves back to
the farm and his mother was extremely thankful!
a merciful edge: He nodded and shifted the kid to one arm, so he could start
putting his gloves back on. He'd taken to wearing them most of the time,
since he'd gotten nice custom ones with a shortened finger! Seemed to
unsettle people less. "Of
a merciful edge: course, provided we don't run into any trouble." He didn't
want to say more trouble, or more werewolves, since that'd probably terrify
the poor kid! Anyway, back to the farm!
a vision bereft: No more trouble this night! Boy delivered safely!
