Tesarik One [1:01 A.M.]: "Guard Tes" as the arken was known by, stood near the table that Ankar had taken as her own. The six foot tall, blue haired and golden eyed construct stood there without blinking or even moving, watching over the willowy white haired female poring over a stack of books. She sat within her chair in a relaxed position, at least 10 books in various states of having been read open around her, lounging as the pages turned themselves and the words on the page danced before her. Some would call the magiken lazy,
Tesarik One [1:02 A.M.]: that could be true on some levels. They liked to call themselves advanced. If it could be done by magic or servants, they sure as hell weren't going to do it themselves. Hand lifted, every white finger bedecked in jewels, and adjusted her intricate braids over a shoulder, as she watched the play of words before her. A nod, no sound at all, and the page turned and the words began to dance again.
Tesarik One [1:06 A.M.]: Oh and, since she was using magic, there was a pale violet crown of flames flickering above her head!
ashton [1:09 A.M.]: Good ol' magic, guardians and servants. Poor Ashton wasn't making use of any of the above when he came into the library. Hell he didn't even have any of the latter two! Unfortunately, he was....shall we say...recognized at this particular establishment, since the last time he'd been seen there a thing or two had gone missing! They couldn't prove it was him, of course, so he hadn't gotten in any trouble for them having such terrible organizational skills, as he made sure to tell them they had, but they did make a point of saying he'd be watched more closely. Well look at that, technically he did have a guardian now! Well..the books had a guardian, the man was just following him around. He stepped further into the library after finally agreeing to such unnecessary measures and glanced back at his guardian. As he wasn't watching where he was going, he bumped right into a particuarly wealthy looking patron and immediately got all humble, hanging his head and apologizing profusely, and pocketing a few coins he'd lifted in the process! He continued on and blinked when he spotted the...flaming-headed white haired lady, but of course hadn't done any of his research yet so he wouldn't recognize what he was looking at. And after taking a look at all the stacks of books, he finally turned to the person following and said none-too-quietly (just in case someone else could help him in his search who knew what he wanted to find)... "Where can I find some books about the people known as Magiken?" Oh how easy it'd be if she heard that and responded!
Tesarik One [1:14 A.M.]: The librarian snorted and gave a shake of his head, and his gaze swept towards the woman with the books and blue haired arken, then back to Ashton. But, he wasn't going to be as helpful as one might think a librarian should be, and instead moved to the stacks and after what seemed like far too long came back with a dusty old tome that was actually hand written in scriptive common. He put it on the pedastal and walked off. Didn't even help him find the part in the book about the ancient spellcasters. It was
Tesarik One [1:16 A.M.]: there, somewhere though. With a thorough description and lore, and far more information than he'd ever want to know. Even listed a few of the important clans such as the Reiken, and Tesarik. Absent gaze of bright green eyes moved over as she heard someone ask of her kind, and she merely stared with the slightest tilt of her head. Though her kind had been around for ages upon ages, and existed in just about every world, there were so few in existence anymore. Some said many were in stasis in some hidden
Tesarik One [1:16 A.M.]: leypoints but even Ankar wasn't sure. She turned back to the book before her, another page turned.
ashton [1:24 A.M.]: The librarian could be as 'helpful' as he wanted with his actions, that gaze movement was all the help he needed. He glanced over towards the woman with the books and the blue haired guardian thing, following the librarian's gaze, then watched as the man walked off. It did seem like far too long, and if he hadn't agreed to being monitored while he was here he would've wandered off, but he was a man of his word. Sometimes. Really the man came back just in time, and when he set the book down. "Thank you, I won't be needing it. Shall I return it for you or would you rather take care of it?" Spoken before the guy got away! And without waiting for an answer he turned and looked back to the female. If she'd looked over right when he'd spoken he probably would've caught her looking anyway, which would just confirm his suspicion, but he'd ask anyway after sauntering over to her table. He was a bit wary of the blue-haired construct however, so he didn't get too close. "..so do I speak to you, or to the lovely lady reading through those books?"
Tesarik One [1:53 A.M.]: The librarian grunted in frustration after he'd gotten the book then it was not needed, and grabbed it up and headed to take it back to just it's spot on the stacks. The arken spoke quietly, "Mistress does not speak to strangers." Which wasn't entirely true, but Guardian Tes was going to say it was anyway! "What do you need, Sir?" Those bright green eyes glanced over towards the dashing young man and she gave a slight tilt to her head as she listened to her arken speak to the man who had asked for magiken.
Tesarik One [1:53 A.M.]: She was curious as to why he wanted to find out about magiken of course, curious as ever, it was just part of her makeup, but she remained silent.
ashton [1:58 A.M.]: And that was of course why he'd waited for the man to bring the book back before saying he didn't need it. Just to frustrate the poor guy. Anyway, attention was on the arken now and he tilted his head at that response, then glanced over to the female. And then back to the arken. "I need work, and was told the Magiken both pay well and could make use of my particular talents. Perhaps they like jewels? Magic items? I can get both, quite easily." Those were, of course, two random guesses..since she had jewels all on her fingers and because she was obviously just magical as all hell!
Tesarik One [1:02 A.M.]: "Mistress does not give work to random strangers." The tall construct stared at the man, though not completely unkindly. Arken were given free will after all, but they were still constructs and still sworn to serve. This one had been in existence for over 2000 years, serving Ankar's creator, Roka. She pushed herself back a little, the words falling to the page again, yet still her violet halo of flames burned. Reaching to her bare chest she withdrew a small metallic disk and held it in her palm, it began to
Tesarik One [1:05 A.M.]: spin in her hand. She was so young, and had only just cast her first spell within the last 50 years, and had been given a name. She still needed the gikii to do some of her magic. Unless Ashton was able to keep telepathy from his mind, he'd hear the soft voice of a female speak within it. "What sort of magic items?" She could care less about jewels - unless they were enchanted. Almost everything on her body was enchanted in some way, she had no interest in the mundane.
ashton [1:13 A.M.]: He furrowed his brow at that response from the arken and frowned, but nodded once and glanced over to the female again. "Well my name is Ashton. I am no longer a 'random' stranger, but a Named one. If 'mistress' would like to speak to me for herself, I shall be over--." He trailed off when he got spoken into his mind and blinked, then looked to the female for a moment. "Any sort. I work best if you were to find rumored locations and then I'll go in and retrieve them, but I can do my own research as well if you give me an idea on what you'd be looking for. As long as it can be carried, I can bring it to you."
Tesarik One [1:16 A.M.]: Her voice still prodded softly in his mind, as she lounged back in her chair, gikii spinning in one palm. "Hello Ashton. I am Ankar. Much of my work is spent finding rumored location for treasure of the magical sort. But, many offer to work for us, most fail. How do I know you have the skills needed to do the best job? Shall I give you a job to do, to test your skills? Hmm." Her free hand rose and she trailed her fingertips along her lips, in thought, though she waited to hear what he said.
ashton [1:19 A.M.]: Oh was she really going to make his advancement that easy on him? His task was of course just to work a job for them, the other thief had never specified the type, length, or scope of the job. Hell considering how shady thief advancement rituals were, if she asked him to leave and he did he'd go back and report that as a success and probably still get his advancement! But only if it came to that. He did love the thought of a new employer, particularly if there'd be regular work out of it. "I understand completely, Ankar, and will certainly be willing to take a test job to prove my worth."
Tesarik One [1:24 A.M.]: "Good." Her voice grew silent, as she pondered and perhaps tapped into the leymind for a suitable test job for this young man. He was damn good looking, and she wouldn't mind having him around just for those reasons, but he certainly needed to have more use than looking pretty. A nod, her communion completed, her voice spoke again. "In the mountains north of here, there is a cavern where a white dragon named Dasidin Mistwalker. Within her horde, there is rumored to be a gilded jewel box, inside rests
Tesarik One [1:26 A.M.]: anklets that allow one to move over snow and ice without even cracking the skin of the snow. Dasidin Mistwalker is a crafty dragon, and has trapped the cavern system against adventurers. Bring me the jewel box with the anklets." She watched him a moment, and a white brow lifted.
Tesarik One [1:27 A.M.]: *lives. (god I'm screwing up royally tonight)
ashton [1:29 A.M.]: He blinked and stared at her a moment after she got done relating that particular task to him, and stayed quiet for a moment. Probably seemed like a long moment before he spoke. "You want me to sneak into a Named dragon's cavern and steal something..for a test? Seems a bit much for those purposes, don't you think?" He brushed his fingers back through his hair a bit, thinking that through, and then shrugged, and flashed her a very charming, self-assured sort of smile. "Of course, that's not to say I won't do it."
Tesarik One [1:32 A.M.]: "If you live, then you will have no lack of jobs from my clan. So, yes, I want you to sneak into a named dragon's horde, steal something, without dying or maiming yourself too terribly." She did not seem phased by the fact the task was going to be difficult, nor did she have any inkling of the passing of time. Whether it took him a week, or years to complete it would not matter to her. "Those who work for the Tesarik are richly rewarded. You may keep all mundane items you find, including jewels and gold. We
Tesarik One [1:33 A.M.]: take all magical items."
ashton [1:35 A.M.]: "And do you offer any sort of payment apart from keeping what I find, or perhaps the use of any magic items that may be useful for the job?" If not, he could always just..not report all the magical items he did find! That'd be easy enough, and he was a good enough liar he could probably get away with it too, so long as he stopped himself from thinking about it too much.
Tesarik One [1:39 A.M.]: Magiken were well known by those that worked for them, or their friends, to be extremely generous. So much so that people clamored to work for the, which is why the test was probably so hard. It frightened most that they simply walked away and never returned. "You will have no lack of anything you need if you are under our employ. You may make use of any magical item we have, we craft potions for use in healing and other magics, and we will pay you above and beyond what you find for every job in gold. If
Tesarik One [1:39 A.M.]: you locate something extremely important to us, there will be bonuses. We will also provide all you need as far as clothing, food, and shelter between jobs."
Tesarik One [1:40 A.M.]: them*
ashton [1:46 A.M.]: He nodded, keeping his expression neutral as she went on, so as not to give away that he did think that all sounded like a fantastic deal! And clothing would be nice..he was just in some regular traveler's clothes at the moment! Soft boots, breeches, a shirt, and a cloak. Oh and a belt of course. Although he would very much like something fancier! "Well, so long as I am allowed to stay with you, and not required to, and can come and go as I please, I see no particular reason not to succeed at your test. All I might need is something to mask or hide my scent." He could be silent, and was good at hiding, so hearing and vision were covered, but he couldn't do much about his scent, and would really just..rather not disturb the dragon at all if possible. "And if you have one I can borrow, something that can hold more than it appears to be able to hold." Or a bag of holding, really! It'd certainly help him get more out.
Tesarik One [1:49 A.M.]: "I said that if you are under our employ, we will provide all you need. Do you really think that I would give you such things for your test? You are on your own, I will teleport you to the bottom of the mountain and that is all. We will be watching. You are to use your own skills and talents. You are only to take the jewel box for this test. You do not need a bag of holding to do that." She smirked ever so slightly, and her bright green eyes seemed amused at him. "Guardian Tes, give him 100 gold pieces. Use
Tesarik One [1:50 A.M.]: the gold to buy what you feel you need to complete the task. There is no time limit. When you have completed it, we will show you where we are." Since you know, it could be years down the line!
Tesarik One [1:51 A.M.]: The blue haired guardian produced a pouch and offered it to the man. It held 100 ancient gold pieces.
ashton [1:55 A.M.]: "Seems an awfully small request for the monumental task you've set for me." He grinned a little and sent her a wink. "It isn't as if I wouldn't return them." And apart from a very slight lift of his brow at the 100 gold pieces mentioned, he didn't visibly react to such a, to him, enormous amount of money. All the prices where he was from were in silver, after all, and a thousand silver was...a lot. He lifted a hand and waved off the pouch when it was offered. "Oh no, I'm certainly not carrying around that amount of money when shopping. If you won't provide me with anything, keep the money. I'll just need to go to my home and get a few items of my own, and then I'll be ready. Where should I meet you to be teleported?"
Tesarik One [1:58 A.M.]: "You don't comprehend the honor to work for us." Said very simply, as she blinked white lashes and then drew in a breath and exhaled softly. The arken nodded when the pouch was waved off, though it was obvious that Ankar was impressed he'd not taken the gold and run. Many had done that after all! They did not understand. At all. "It depends on when you will be ready to be teleported. Tell me when, and I will meet you beside the hanging oak on the outskirts of this town."
ashton [2:06 A.M.]: "Oh lovely, there is no honor in who someone works for, only in one's own actions." He flashed her a smile once more, and had a second or two to think before coming up with a time. "Give me one hour, and I'll meet you there." He was going to sneak up on her too! Or at least try to. If nothing else it might show at least a bit of his abilities before he even went off to go get eaten by a dragon. "See you in an hour." He winked once again, and then headed out of the library, going to shake hands with the librarian who'd been following him around and give him the gift of one less ring to worry about weighing his hand down! And then off he went to get himself prepared.
Tesarik One [2:08 A.M.]: She scoffed at that and gave a shake of her head, but going into a soliloquoy about the importance of the magiken race...even if they'd about destroyed themselves.. was not the time or place. "One hour then." She smiled at the wink, and then watched him walk away, staring at his ass. Literally, that flaming halo flickered again and she was looking right through his pants, and grinning. Her arken began gathering her things.
ashton [2:16 A.M.]: What a naughty employer he had! Anyhow. His preparations consisted of pawning that ring he'd stolen to a shady sort who wouldn't care or ask where he got it, purchasing from the same shady fellow a potion that would neutralize his scent..which was better than masking it anyway..better the dragon not smell anything intruding, rather than just smelling something that wasn't a human! Then it was home, where he grabbed his falchion, sheathed it and put it at his hip. The dagger he always had was already on him, hidden away in in his boot! He removed the cloak then and donned his padded leather armor, dyed in a dark mottled grey pattern to better break up his shape against most non-foresty, non-sandy surfaces..it was a cavern, after all, he assumed it'd be dark and rocky! He also grabbed a cloak that matched the armor, threw on his backpack after supplying it for the trip and slipped it on before the cloak, pulled up his hood, and then out he went, stalking his way towards that tree!
Tesarik One [2:19 A.M.]: Aww, he had a falchion! Arken had gathered her stuff, and she'd had a brief conversation with the librarian who had been told to save her books, marked at the pages she'd left them. And then the petite female headed for the door and stood there, waiting for Guardian Tes to open it for her. Once it was opened, she stepped out and down the stairs of the library, glancing up and down the busy street. Like hell was she going to walk to the tree. She withdrew her gikii disk from her chest again, the metallic
Tesarik One [2:21 A.M.]: substance made from her own silvery blood began to spin, and she lifted off the ground levitating. In this manner, she began to make her way through town until she reached the tree long before he was to meet her. Guardian Tes was sent to get her some fruit from the fruitstand they'd passed, and she sat at the base of the tree, head against the trunk, and closed her eyes.
