The Triple Full Moon isn't just happening when a DM says it is (ignore that I'm a DM here please). The major world-changing things that are going on everywhere aren't on the schedule of a DM and they won't wait for someone to get around to them. They also happen when life happens for us the players and it makes it difficult for us to get our characters involved during this time. Or you're a player that only has enough time for one character to do something but you have more than one that you know would participate or do what they could even when you're not actively a part of their lives. This is why for the Triple Full Moon Event we're trying something new to see how players feel about it.
Instead of several days of large quests where only 4-8 people actually help make a difference in the world, there are going to be scenarios happening all over Arith that are asking for attention. These missions are going to be available for people to do to help change the outcome for that area. Yes this concept isn't new. It's just like the scenarios that Pam has given us in the weekly challenge prior to now. You are given a small amount of information and then told - "go play". They can be done alone (new system.. try it out!) or with one other person or even in an open room to get it done with a lot of people (dont forget to IM people that you're starting one!). Most of them are things that will not be accomplished completely by just one set of characters going to an area so don't be concerned about getting one that someone else might have grabbed! Just do the one that works for your character and their hero complexes.
The second part of what we're offering is a new concept of Offline Opportunities. Just because you are sleeping or playing your alt, doesn't mean that another of your characters is sitting around in limbo playing with his toys, right? I mean I guess he could but not all of them would do that in instances of world strife. Again.. they could but do you really want them to when I thought of something just for them? An offline opportunity is a scenario/mission that is specifically put together in a way that can be said that your character did THAT that day. The rewards for this type of participation aren't going to be as good as the ones for actively playing but it still means that your characters have stories for their wenches or grandkids about the time of the Triple Full Moon and what they were doing that weekend.
So how does this all work?
Missions and Offline Ops will be posted every day as things happen all over Arith. Some things are only going to be available for one day while others might be ongoing over the course of the event. Pay attention to the details of the information that is given to know which is which.
Here are the requirements to get credit and ways that each can be accomplished.
♦ Missions -
- Choose a mission that you like from the ones available.
- Are you doing it solo? or with one other? Or the more the merrier?
- Solo -- Write up a message board post of at least 1200 words of what happens to accomplish the mission goals OR RP in a AOL room doing time stamps/log. Same rules as travel badges - 30 boxes minimum. This option can only done at most for two characters per player per day. We're a group.
- Single Friend (Just you two!) -- Open a room, start that log, make sure to TIMESTAMP. OR Feel free to IM RP with your friend since it's just the two of you. Timestamps on so the log shows when you started and ended. IM play is great if you know you'll have distractions!
- More the merrier -- Open a room, invite your friends and other available members, make sure the log states what mission you're doing and you keep timestamps.
- Roleplay the mission! To receive credit for completing this task, every participant must spend at least one hour roleplaying. If play is slow due to player distractions or verbose responses that take 10+ minutes to finish, a new minimum of at least 10 posts per character comes into effect. The 10 post rule also comes into effect for MB or IM play. There also has to be more than getting to a location, talking to each other as they glance around and leaving!
- Send complete log to Event Coordinator (that'sa me!/funsizefantasy@aol.com). Make sure to include a list of all participants at the top who are receiving credit, include what mission was chosen from the list and where you went if it has multiple choices. Note: A character can only complete ONE mission per day, this does not mean you can't participate in the roleplay nights but you can only do one mission.
But Rica - I really want to start this but suddenly life got in my way. Now I'm totally kind of bummed!
I actually have a response to this!
- If you get ready to begin play on a mission but life's distractions become harder. Or you know you have distractions and really want to do a particular mission that is available on a certain day. Go ahead and start your message board, IM or room play. Create a timestamp (MB will auto give you when you post) and whoever is playing with you should then also reply once each! This is the beginning of your mission - you've started it and even if you can't finish it right then, send me (event coordinator) the link/log with list of participants and CLAIM that mission before midnight of that day EST. Doing this will tell me that you plan to finish what you've started and you will have a new deadline of Sunday, December 18th @ 5:00 PM EST to finish the mission with the above parameters (1200 words/10 posts each) and send me the completion notification.
But Rica - Sometimes I have trouble with the website so message boards don't work as well.
Thought of this too!
- On a trial basis - we are offering individuals the ability to EMAIL RP with their partners much the same way as mentioned above. Emails take time - but if you claim what you're doing, how you're doing it, who you're doing it with at least the starter post for every person involved. You get the same deadline to complete the mission with the bare minimum of 10 responses each (at least 1200 words total per player - don't have 10 one sentence replies people.) then you can get credit for having done that mission.
♦ Offline Ops -
- Choose one of the Offline Opportunity Options
- Send the Event Coordinator (that's me! funsizefantasy@aol.com) the character's name & SN and the Offline Op they are joining.
- Don't play that character all day! Characters who are considered at Offline Ops get credit for having been somewhere and receive a partial reward for that option being chosen BUT they can't be at an OFFLINE Opportunity if you are ONLINE with them.. now can they?
- That's it! Your character was there for the whole event and you will receive a 'receipt' that tells you exactly what happened while they were away. Characters who are used in other missions, scenarios, RPLs, PSLs, etc when they are supposed to be offline may face consequences for abusing the system.
Some of these items above are on a trial basis. We want to see how our members feel about allowing this to be an option for other things. If you like these options, let me or Pam know! We appreciate the feedback. Email always preferred if you're going to complain!
Rewards - You guys want to know what you're doing all this stuff for, am I right?
For every mission a character completes they will receive 10 xp and 1 rep.
For completing 1 activity (RP night, mission, offline op), that character earns the badge "Once in a Triple Moon".
For characters who do at least three things (one has to be an active event!) - you will receive a bonus of 2 rep & a special badge for going above and beyond.
Players who are active during the event and complete something for every day of the event may qualify to earn a special badge for themselves.
Days reset at 6 am EST! Note: All earned badges and gifts will be sent in receipts at the end of the event!
