Ships Log: Vagabond

Departed the Nest at 6th bell, for Mountain chateau, Rhy'din.

Cargo: Assorted supplies of Silks and fine steel for needles and other implements. Summer fruits in sealed casks. 25 barrels Mead for resupply.

Crew and guests: Family only no crew along.

Notes:
Sailed out to main shipping lanes, letting the children get their sea legs and learning how to sail. With favorable winds I expect landfall in 3 weeks time.

29th day of Dumannios

Notes:
 Sighted heavy fog on the horizon. Called all hands to deck, and had the sails lowered to slow us. Riley claimed it was a "Moon bridge," and advised change of course. Immediately tried to comply but ship was caught in a current drawing us into the fogbank or bridge. Unable to compensate or deviate course I ordered the children and my wives below decks and to the rear in case we come upon a reef.

1st of Riuros

Notes:
Two days? in this damned fog with no sighting, nor knowledge of a heading. Keeping most of the family below when possible in case of danger. The children have their mothers fearlessness.....and tempers, but they are not yet up to the level of fending off a boarding action. Riley, Des, and I have been trading off time on deck and watch for breaks in the visibility. I think I have been feeling a freshening breeze perhaps soon we

Break in the weather came just too late. We were aground almost as soon as the fog lifted. Had to abandon the ship, she went down quickly, but all family is accounted for. Swampland all around, best to continue along the shoreline rather than risk the marshes and any predators. Only saved a few days food and our own clothing, barely saved this log had I not had it with me. Need to keep the children calm and moving. Haven't been feeling well since we hit that fogbank. Riley and Destiny feel the same they claim, which worries me. Must find a cart or some way to move them if things get worse. Even if I have to drag them myself.

2nd of Rurios

Found a relatively dry spot on a breakage of the marsh. Knocked together a pole raft with the boys help, not uch but it will keep them dry, and I can tow them through this morass. Reminds me a bit of that swamp I was posted in back when I first went into mercenary work. Barcha's Boars the comany was called. Mostly because barcha was an unimaginative swine who looked uglier than his totem symbol. Civil war, pretty ugly. We were posted in a marsh on the flank to keep an eye out for the chance the western nomads might try to come through the area. Never had a pitched battle, mostly skirmishes with bandits and wild tribesman in the are. We lost a man out of every five to disease, poisonous snakes or just lost in quicksand or the marsh fogs. Atleast there aren't as many biting flies this time around. Was so glad when they marched us out of that marsh, atleast until we were thrown into the siege of a castle and the meat grinder that followed. 

Fashioned some crude spears when we stopped on the raised dry area, fire hardened points and the like. Told the boys to spear fish off the raft as I drag them along. Michael rigged up a rope to his for easy retrieval, bright boy that one. Set Alexander up with the same. Lisa and sarah are tending to their mothers and korri still has her bow so having her cover he sides and watch for shots at any fowl. Having trouble concentrating, still have whatever sickness we caught, though the children seem unaffected. Just gotta keep moving, get them to safety.

14th of Rurios

Lost this journal in the aftermath of the move. Updating:

We found a shack in the marsh, a small hunters cabin or something of the like. Needing shelter I forced the door, and got everyone inside. The place looked like it had been uninhabited for several seasons, and reminded me of the place I built at the Nest when I first discover the island. Got everyone racked out and sleeping then I got to looking about. Found a cloak and a ring in one of the corners. Figure the owner of the place went hunting and got hunted in turn. Next morning sent the kids out to gather, was looking to spend a little time with Destiny so we head for a little room I hadn't checked yet, figuring its a storeroom. We fell through some sort of portal into an Inn. Handy thing to have attached to your home. 


Came to find out we're in some land called Arith, and spoke with a precocious little pink gnome named Elly. Worked out a deal, mercenary work for free room and board at a house they owned until we get our feet under us. They call it "Adventuring" here, but I'm back to what I do best, hitting things with other things for gold. Offered to kit us out too, which was useful. Been on a few contracts so far, nothing too bad, Trolls and underground caves. I hate caves.


Setup a little shop down by the waterfront doing design and architecture for builders, just something to bring in the coin when not on a contract. Hoping before long to move the family someplace closer to sea. I've been visiting a couple different lands through this "Master portal" at the Inne. Once the family has moved, can see about going back to having a ship and the sea air again.
