I just wanted to take a moment to thank Pam and OH. For better or worse I’ve been RPing on AOL for almost 20 years (yes, I know I’m old lol) and I can honestly say that I feel that OH (and others I’m sure) finally got the formula right. No I haven’t always agreed with decisions made in OH and Pam and I definitely had discussions that bordered on disagreement but I have never questioned her love nor dedication to OH for one second. People tend to forget at times, myself included, that in all of this fun and creativity, there is a source at the very center, an engine that helps ensure smooth sailing. I can think of no one else, again myself included, that has put as much effort into a game and gaming group (OH is both) than Pam has into OH. The situation isn’t always perfect, and sometimes there are some bumps in the road, but OH is still a great place to play. So thank you OH, and thank you Pam.
I did what I did for OH (the paid advertisement removal, the coding, learning new things to try on the forum site, the investment I made into Daz3D for my character models, etc.) because I felt (and still do) OH represented something that was worth doing so. I’m loyal by nature, whether it is a job, game, group, or friends, if I find something worth my effort I dedicate myself to it. I’m not leaving because I no longer feel OH deserves my dedication, but rather because I have other interests I’m wishing to explore, and I also wished to take some time away for personal reasons. Though Pam didn’t have to thank me for my efforts I offer a heartfelt “you’re welcome” in response to her wonderful email.
The formula I spoke of earlier is that the focus of OH is on PVE and world building instead of the atypical PVP of what use to makeup AOL RP. I hope no one ever takes the amount of work that has been placed into OH for granted. The level of detail, the effort, the time, the massiveness of scope, and the very world that is defined by OH is, to me, simply amazing when you consider all members are asked to do is invest their time. No the game wouldn’t be around if it weren’t for members but at the same time the members wouldn’t have a place to play if it weren’t for a game. It may not be a 50/50 relationship but it is pretty darn close. I’m not asking you to feel obligated or indebted to OH, I’m simply asking you to consider its worth as a piece of art and creation.
Good luck OH, and may everyone involved find the enjoyment and creativity that, to me, OH is meant to bring you!
