The author was an apothecarian, and many simple brews are mentioned.

Kaiken, otherwise known as the Red Healer, is a minor goddess of healing. There is a tattoo that brings the blessing of Kaiken in the form of a handprint, or fingerprint in rust-red color. This tattoo boosts the healing points of someone with Healing Affinity by 10 points per day.

When this ring is worn and the proper command word spoken, a circular plane of force is created, which the wielder may use as a regular shield. The circle centers on the ring itself, and has a diameter appropriate to the size of the user. It remains in existence as long as desired, but you cannot use your shield-hand to perform other functions as it is necessary to "hold" the shield. This shield confers +3 DEF. It can be boosted as a normal shield.

-Black Salt Rod [Magic Item]
Ink-black salt forms the full length of this 1-inch diameter, foot long rod. It feels rough to the touch and tasting it confirms it indeed is made of salt, although the magic prevents it from dissolving. The black salt rod detects unnatural creatures and protects its bearer from them. If a construct or undead creature comes within 60 feet of the rod's wielder, the rod emits an acrid, briny smell and stains its bearer's hand black (the stain disappears when the creature is not in range, or the rod is dropped). The rod detects disguised, ethereal, hidden, incorporeal and invisible constructs and undead as well as those in plain sight. If the bearer concentrates for a full round, the rod pinpoints the location of the nearest creature and indicates how many are in range. The rod can be used in this way three times a day, each use lasting up to 10 minutes. The rod protects it's bearer from any type of supernatural attacks or effects from an undead that will turn the bearer himself undead, and grants a +2 to any magical saves against an undead's spells or effects. Endure Elements: (Abjuration) A creature protected by endure elements suffers no harm from being in a hot or cold environment. It can exist comfortably in conditions between –50 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit without having to make Endurance saves. The creature's equipment is likewise protected. Endure elements doesn't provide any protection from fire or cold damage, nor does it protect against other environmental hazards such as smoke, lack of air, and so forth.


Flavor Effects:
Moonbridge: (Transmutation [good, light]) This spell transforms a shaft of moonlight, whether naturally occurring or magically created, into a translucent bridge capable of supporting you and creatures of good alignment. Creatures of neutral alignment can also walk upon a moonbridge as long as they remain in direct contact with you. Evil creatures find the moonbridge as insubstantial as moonlight.

Tiny Hut: (Evocation [force]) You create an unmoving, opaque sphere of force of any color you desire around yourself. Half the sphere projects above the ground, and the lower hemisphere passes through the ground. As many as nine other Medium creatures can fit into the field with you; they can freely pass into and out of the hut without harming it. However, if you remove yourself from the hut, the spell ends. The temperature inside the hut is 70° F if the exterior temperature is between 0° and 100° F. An exterior temperature below 0° or above 100° lowers or raises the interior temperature on a 1-degree-for-1 basis. The hut also provides protection against the elements, such as rain, dust, and sandstorms. The hut withstands any wind of less than hurricane force, but a hurricane (75+ mph wind speed) or greater force destroys it. The interior of the hut is a hemisphere. You can illuminate it dimly upon command or extinguish the light as desired. Although the force field is opaque from the outside, it is transparent from within.

Servant Horde: (Conjuration/Summoning) This spell creates a number of invisible servants similar to the "unseen servant" spell. The number of servants created is equal to 2d6 + 1 per gemstone level. These servants can be used for laboring tasks such as serving at a banquet, helping to dig earthworks, rowing a ship, assisting in a farmer's fields. They last as many hours as your INT bonus.

Abstemiousness: (Transmutation) This spell magically enhances a handful of simple food, imbuing it with enough nutrition to satisfy a Medium or smaller creature for a full day. The spell does not create food, and thus will not alone prevent someone from starving, but it can extend even limited reserves for lengthy periods.
