River pulled the blanket over the twisted stuck in pain features of the old man. Canterley Lows were filled with the poorest of the poor; River offering her services free of charge and found it kept her from thinking. A kind of peace washed over her while she worked, but not in this death. This was sixth person to die in this way.
"I'm sorry. I've done all I could for him." The weeping wife threw herself on the form of her dead husband. The blonde strands were pulled from features having fallen from the loose bun during the old man thrashing. How was this pass around? What was happening? Blood leaked from the ears and nose at the end. A poison? But who would want this old man dead? Questions ran in her mind walking down the street leading back to the Inne. The Inne was only a moment to change and gather her son with her. A young girl paid for the time she spent watching the lad. "What are we to do, Ollie?" Whispered into the soft blonde hairs atop his head. Cooing at his mother that brought a smile to her lips. The wet nurse gladly took her son for the few hours she would be gone.
Several Hours Later
The knife stabbed into the ground beside her; her fingers digging gently around the roots of the plant. Transferring the plant to a basket River sat back on her heels. The back of her hand wiping across her forehead and dropped to her side when she felt back against the ground. Knees pulled slightly to her chest. The fawn colored trousers smeared with the dark rich earth from digging into the ground. The heat of the day was finally getting her with her mouth drying and her stomach hunger for greens that she had found in her hunt for the healing herbs.
River knew that she move to eat and drink, but those blue hues were watching the wooded area around her. Nose twitching several times. What was happening in to these people and why wasn't she able to figure it out?
