I sat across from the man, my eyes watching his movements as we began to talk. This would be a very easy task, I thought, letting him take the lead. After he asked my name, I answered and asked the same in kind, "And your full name?". "For certain, I know my first name is Alrek. My last name, Vendal... it translates as 'wanderer' from Kullyrian, so it may or may not be my original last name.", he replied. I had inquired about his last adventure, to which he replied, revealing a bit of an inferior feeling he had of his own ability, "What happened?" concerning the last adventure. "I'm not sure. Maybe the portal zapped us back after we killed those creatures.... well.... I say 'we' but really I mean the others." was the answer that Alrek gave. When more information on the fight itself was asked for, Alrek added, "Oh.... well, the creatures died in a fiery death.... not much to say after that really. You didnt miss much. In fact, all things considered, I wish I had gone with you." With that statement being made, I had to inquire further, "Why? They were not friendly to you?", Alrek answered that clearly after a moments thought, "Friendly usually insinuates that there is talking involved, aside from you, no one has given me a second thought. Maybe a few years ago I would have preferred that but its the opposite of what I am going for now, these days". | Alrek Vendal (randomcreature8) "My last name, Vendal, it translates as 'wanderer' from Kullyrian..." |
With that bit of information revealed, we exchanged information on our homelands, during which time Alrek showed himself to be rather friendly in demeanor, when asked where he was from, after hearing where I came from, he answered "Kullyr. Glad to meet another from the north". To expand upon that, he answered more about his hometown, "A little more green then the mountains your from, although still some very cold areas in the winter. Lots of icebergs float by out bays. I used to live in a village on a small northern hook". Few, if any, would have known that about this man, Alrek Vendal. Next, he stated that his hometown no longer existed and that he was now a wanderer, "I doubt my village still stands. Last I heard it was in ruins now. Just a memory now laid out in shadow and stone" and "Are you more of a traveler like me?", the question giving information on himself in its phrasing. As I showed regret upon hearing of his home town being gone, he revealed more of how his mind worked, "Oh, no need to feel sorry for it. Thats is just what happens over time. Places come and go, people move on". When the name was asked for, Alrek was very forthcoming with information on his former home, "I can tell you it WAS called FairWater, north of Bracken, near the mountains, a small fishing village with a... moderatly nice castle". | Hearing his town had a castle, my curiosity was peaked. I had to ask more about the castle in the town where he had come from, "Did it guard a pass, or fertile lands or something?" to which he replied, "Its been many years since I've talked.... or even thought about it.... but I believe it was mainly there to house the local lords... the men responsible for delegating the fishing.... the shipping... although it did block a trail off into the mountains, maybe it was there to guard a pass.... I never asked". He clearly displayed a lack of curiosity when he was much younger. When it was stated that many in the Heart spent a lot of time at the inn, he again showed his feeling of not being equal to others, "I guess Im just lucky they allowed me in, what in the 9 realms they were thinking, ill never know". Further inquiries lead to a lengthy discussion on just what he was. He finally revealed that he had no reflection, no shadow and was two centuries old. Showing a playful nature, he wished for his race to be guessed, and did answer honestly when I stated that he was a vampire. Far more was revealed about his feeding habits, past (including being chased out of a few towns), and much more. Alrek is an interesting man that more should try to learn things about him. by Sonya (seiestan) |
