Adalric could bear quite the grudge for those who dared to take up actions that
could ruin his appearance and garb alike. The apparent mage among the mercenaries
that first assualted the Bullet and Blade certainly earned one such grudge out of the
Little Noble. When Cordelia chose to request that he be the one to hunt down the
mage? He could not accept quickly enough!
" Should we truly be seeking to antagonise a wizard, M'lord? "
The voice of reason came from his bodyguard, a Knight of the Howling Wolves, Sir
Matthias Burgstaller. Adalric narrowed his eyes at the Knight.. Matthias was his
parent's means of drawing him into the Knighthood without even having to actually
join the order.
" You would allow a man that assualted the man you have pledged your service to,
to remain at large? "
No, he knew Matthias did not work that way.. the Howling Wolf Knight would do
what was expected of him at his Lord's order. Adalric stood after gathering his
written plans up now that they were memorized and proceeded to toss them all into
the fire rather than leave a paper trail.
" The Castle Lord Altien lose in the bet with this Mistress Vixen of yours would be
our best starting point. Shall we head there, M'lord? "
A silent nod of agreement followed while the young nobleman gathered his
equipment.. notably the spears he favored though more importantly the inhalant
poisons that would render the finger-wagging bastard impotent in magical terms.
The poisons were as always his ace in the hole when nothing else that could be
done by his mundane limitations.
" Lets set off then.. "
It took some time to gather up all the arms and armor between the two of them. A
little more to lay claim to a pair of horses to make the journey to the castle in
question. It was a minor suspicion indeed that they kept in mind that the mage might
well be sneaking around near if not within the castle.
What Vixen might have thought of them sneaking around that new castle of hers
Adalric did not know.. and thought better of mentioning it. What mattered was
coming by some clue into the Finger-waggler's where-abouts.
Towards that goal the Little Noble and the Knight made the lands surronding the
castle in question. Adalric proved compartively clumsy in the company of a Knight
that made a point to observe his surrondings with each step. Eventually it was
Matthias whom proved observant enough to pinpoint something amiss not too far
away from the castle in question. When pointed out to Adalric he used the butt of
his spear to nudge the covering debris away.
" Escape route for escaping seiges, maybe? "
Said Matthias.
" And our way in.. "
Replied Adalric.
As was expected of him, Matthias took the lead after they'd pulled the wooden door
up. While the Knight took the lead Adalric made a point of keeping that spear of his
out where it could be utilized against any enemies that might come for Matthias as
they progressed through whatever this tunnel turned out to be.
What they discovered upon reaching the spot where the paths split was a little more
informative .. the path of the left was easily explored without moving from where
they stood without moving much further than where the paths diverged between
them.
The 'chamber' to the left did not earn their immediate exploration.. instead the pair
headed to the right. Adalric might not have known much of magic, or anything
about magic, but dragons were a subject he knew well and he knew dragons
possessed a natural talent for the arcane. The arcane could be dangerous for those
wanting to deal with dragons.. and mages alike. Thus they took the turn to the right
into a larger underground chamber. As it turned out it was not at all connected to
the castle.. least not that either man could take note of.. especially not with the
distacted, cloaked, humanoid shape that busied himself with something very much
of arcane nature.
A distracted mage tended to be the best kind for men such as these two interlopers
that Adalric and Matthias had made of themselves in coming here. As one might
expect it was the Howling Wolf Knight that surged forth towards the Dragon's
Mage. The sound of an armour-clad man colliding with the robe-clad finger-waggler
proved more audible than expected.. a solid thud and clank of metal. Sir Matthias
came away from this action clutching his abdomen.. pulling a dagger free from his
side.
All the same the distraction left Adalric time enough to bring that violet powder out
from within its pull-string pouch and the oppurtunity brought about by his newly
wounded bodyguard left more than enough time to blow the inhalant into the
mage's face. The matter of its working or not was another matter.. earning Adalric
stepping away to brandish that spear of his once more.
" Its time for a little payback for that fireball, you finger-wagging bastard. "
Adalric spoke with half-remembered anger at the very familiar looking mage. The
ensuing fight did not find any of the combatants coming away unscathed from it.
What mattered was the lack of spellcasting on the Mage's part. Noble and Knight
alike forced themselves to turn their assualt towards a non-lethal variety of attacks
meant to disable if not knock the bastard out. Blood-thirsty as his temper had made
him.. it was not enough to forget their purpose for finding this spellslinging bastard.
With his magic unaccessible the Dragon's Mage proved greatly weakened though
no incapable of putting up a fight. The potent, purple powder did its job well..
Magus Expellum Powder worked as expected in disabling magic use for a time.
Disabling the physical was another matter.. one Adalric and Matthias like set about
seeing to put an end to.. particularly in shattering the mage's most useful
appendages.. those hands and fingers! When the mage finally fell unconscious
thanks to the exertions of the pair.. Adalric did just that with the butt and haft of his
spear until a tell-tale cracking of bone reached their ears.
Once the mage was suitably disabled between the powder's effect and the ensuing use of manacles to bind him further. With the bindings in place the two men carried their prisoner out of that chamber. Undertaking a short walk to led them into the other chamber instead.. the mage's presence seemed to lift a barrier of energy they had not realized was there beforehand. Leaving Matthias to further restrain the Mage, Adalric took to a little exploration.. a process that was still incomplete by the time the mage began to stir.
As expected the Mage once again tried to bring magic to bear against them and again they watched as no energy came to the man's command.. only the painful realization of what had been done to his precious fingers.
" We have some questions, Mage. "
Even as Adalric spoke he was searching through the shelves for things of interest , if not of use to him. It did not take long for even the Little Noble to take note of the draconic alphabet utilized on a book title here and there. Plucking a tome from the shelf Adalric spoke up again.
" Tell me about the Dragon. "
The Mage Responded, pain affecting his voice.
" I will tell you not~ "
Adalric, with little patience for dealing with a willful mage with tortore of the like that would make Matthias unhappy. He knew the mage would be troublesome like this and thus had prepared for it. Much like the violet powder, he possessed another in which would be useful for getting information out of even a mage.. especially a bound and magically disabled one. When next the mage went to breathe Adalric blew that fine, golden powder in his face.. having palm it during his time with his back to the mage while looking over those shelved tomes.
" What kind of Dragon is it? Where can we find it? "
The two questions did not earn an immediate answer as the Mage attempted to resist the effects of the truth-forcing inhalant. Though the response came it was a slow and broken noise at best.
" In...car...num. Be...nea...th.. ca...stle. "
Well that was easy.. and perhaps all he really needed to research the rest for himself. Especially with a small library of draconic knowledge at his disposal thanks to the mage himself.
