It was a long trek that Georg had taken to get their prisoner secured. After dodging a guard patrol and taking to the sewers to remain unnoticed, he'd left the captive bound and gagged, secured and isolated for a day. The door to the captive's cell had remained closed for the entirety of that day, so when it was opened Georg couldn't help but notice the hopefulness in the man's eyes. A dark grin settled on Georg's lips, he'd brought some water and a small portion of food. This captive would live to tell him what he wanted to know, no matter the duration of time.
The hopefulness in the man's eyes, and the utter hatred that replaced it only broadened that grin as Georg finally spoke. "You're here right now because you are of some use to me. Should your usefulness start to wane, I'll have less of a reason to ensure your continued existence. Nod if you understand." He waited a moment, watching the man's eye move from Georg's to the scabbard at his hip, then back to Georg's eyes before he nodded.
"See, you're learning already. Now, I can't exactly get you to talk all gagged up like that. This is how it's going to work. I'm going to ask you questions. You're going to answer me. I'll know if you're lying, and if you lie? Well, you're going to come to find that lying is not the path you want to walk on around me. If you tell me what I want to know, you get to eat." He watched the fella, making sure it all sunk in as he crossed the distance and removed the gag.
"Don't waste your breath. I ain't telling you shit you ugly sack of barnacles." The man spit in Georg's face, earning him a savage backhand that left the bound fool reeling and crumpled a few feet from where he'd been standing. Blood formed on the man's lips as he sneered, but that was soon replaced by disbelief as Georg crossed the distance and hauled the man up with his left hand, another backhand delivered as he held him to make sure he wouldn't move away again.
"See, now, we're off to a bad start already. And here I thought you understood. I ask the questions, you answer them. It's rather simple, you really don't want to test me." A heavy blow landed into the fellow's stomach, the water and food Georg had brought in occupying the room's only chair.
"Now, I'm not a fan of beating up on a captive. Don't make me hit you again and just tell me what I know. You do that, and you don't have to see me again. Understood?" He took a few steps back from the man, crossing his arms over his chest as he just looked to him, awaiting his answer.
Coughing, reeling from the strikes, the man nodded weakly. Dejected in his inability to keep a stronger spine in the matter. "Aye, aye then! Ask me your questions, just be quick about it." The meal had done its part, tantalizing the man's senses after going as long as he did without consumption. "Just don't take the food away!"
A loud harrumph would escape Georg's lips as the fella gave in, almost a bit too easily. He'd barely gotten to have any fun with the man. "Your Captain. What port does he dock at? What are the conditions of the guards that watch the ship while in port? Are there any ways to sneak onto the ship?"
The captive just stared blankly at Georg. He looked completely shaken as the questions began where they did. "Cap'n don't usually set too many guards while we dock in. If it's sneakin' on you're wantin', don't bother. Cap'n always manages to root out stowaways. Better off lettin' me bring you aboard."
It was clear his first outburst was this man's final straw at standing up to Georg. He shook as he spoke, cowed and battered, a beaten man. Still, Georg eyed him warily as he volunteered that bit. "You're saying that you want us to sign on as Pirates? This Captain of yours, he have a name?"
"You broke my damn ribs . . . I'm done fighting you. You're damn right I meant bringing you on as Pirates. Way I see it, you owe us. Who knows? Not afraid of the water, are ya?" It was a light jab of a jest, but he saw Georg's eyes twitch and backpedalled a step. "Black! Cap'n Black! Ship's name is The Black Shadow!" He blurted out, wanting to stave off another beating. "We always bring on recruits whenever we dock. Pirating has its ups and downs. Crew's always leaving whenever we dock in, always deaths at sea to merit replenishing our ranks. Any of us that come back with extra get a bonus for signing them on."
Georg took a moment to contemplate the tidbits that he'd just learned, nodding once and moved towards the man. The captive immediately began to wince away, fearing the worst, but only found his bonds removed and Georg moving towards the door. He paused as he readied to open it and leave, looking over his left shoulder so the brand was prominent as he spoke. "Eat up then, and get your strength. Won't be too convincing if you're the wreck you are right now." The door opened and Georg departed, the sound of the lock turning ensuring that the prisoner knew he was still a prisoner until his information had been received and mused over.
