a vision bereft: Mission: Undead Study
a vision bereft: ^v^ 11/11/2012 12:58:39 AM ^v^
a vision bereft: A student of the magical arts must finish her solo study on
necromantic phenomena before her academic deadline. She needs the heroes to
bring her tissue or bone samples of at least three specific
a vision bereft: undead creatures within one week.
a vision bereft: Tonight we are going after undead #1 - The Mummy
a vision bereft: Somehow, somewhere, Elle had found a hand written flyer
stuck to the OH board of "Help Needed" that said that a student in the
college needed some bits and pieces of three different undead creatures
within a week's time. She tugged
a vision bereft: that paper off the wall, and went to find Kyle to show it
to him. She'd have asked Aeolos to help them too, but she wasn't sure where
that gypsy man was located tonight so Kyle it was! Once he was found, she
offered the paper to him
a vision bereft: and gave a little tilt of her head. "Want to earn a little
bit of coin? This doesn't seem that hard. Good practice for you maybe?"
a merciful edge: Oh yeah, she'd just have to settle for Kyle's help. Which
might actually be helpful, if he managed to not drop his sword the entire
time. He looked over the paper when she handed it to him and shrugged. "Sure.
I'm not going to
a merciful edge: agree that it doesn't seem hard, though. Always hard to
tell with undead. I'll give it a go, though." And then it was time to get his
things! Sword on his back, cloak of armor, amulet of armor, and regular old
clothes! He'd gotten
a merciful edge: enough strength back that he didn't need that walking stick
anymore though, so at least there was that!
a vision bereft: "Well, she has a list here and mummy is one of them. I know
how to get to the Catacombs here in this city." She wasn't exactly sure what
one had to prepare to go after some mummy parts, but she grabbed her black
cloak and slung it
a vision bereft: around her shoulders, clasping the key clasp at the neck
then grabbed her seax and sheath and hooked it to her belt horizontally. Her
pack was put on her back with all her other things she might need, including
her shawm ... which
a vision bereft: had also been fitted with a blade if needed. She grabbed
her lantern and waited for Kyle to be ready, as she headed for the door to
pause once it was opened.
a merciful edge: He nodded a little. He'd just have to settle for his sword,
really. He didn't have much else at the moment, but hey! Clothing and his
cloak were more than he'd shown up with, so there was that. He also put that
scarf around his neck
a merciful edge: again to hide the horrible scar on his throat. Wasn't
worried about unnerving mummies, but they'd be going through the city! No
need to get asked too many questions.
a merciful edge: And yep, ready! He'd head on out and let her lead, since
she knew where to go!
a vision bereft: Once out the door, she headed down the outer stairwell
which would bypass the tap room, no need to get caught up in whatever was
going on there. Opening the door, she stepped out onto the cobbled courtyard
of the inne and hooked her
a vision bereft: lantern for now on her backpack. There were lanterns
already lit along the streets, at least the area they were going through, so
they wouldn't need it till they got to the catacombs. She began to move
through the streets of
a vision bereft: Greenlord Run, the area of Navahla where the OH Inne was
located. They passed by the Crimson Torch Brothel, and several young ladies
all painted up prettily in very little clothing attempted to flirt with Kyle
and get him to come
a vision bereft: in there instead. Elle just laughed softly, and turned to
head into a darker alley.
a merciful edge: Well he wouldn't be much of a Swordmaster if he didn't
flirt back at least a little! He acted quite charming and flattered that they
seemed to think so highly of him, but then of course expressed he had no
money at all with which to
a merciful edge: shower the poor ladies, excused himself politely, and then
continued on. Hell, really he'd never stopped moving, he could flirt as he
moved. And then they were heading into a darker alley? Spooky! He shifted his
baldric a bit, as
a merciful edge: if to reassure himself that the sword was still on his
back.
a vision bereft: There were two areas very specialized within Navahla... the
Sewers, and the Rooftops. Every neighborhood in Navahla had at least one, or
more entrances of various types into the Sewers - which were not all sewers -
some merely
a vision bereft: ancient tunnels and such. As she moved down the alley, she
came to a dead end that was full of old crates, and garbage cans from the
businesses on either side of them. She spoke low, "I'm very sure that I was
told that it was
a vision bereft: between the Scented Dove, and Sullen Sage. We are going to
just have to move this stuff and find the opening. She moved closer and began
to stack the crates one by one out of the way.
a merciful edge: He nodded, then moved in to help with the crates and
whatnot. Hurray for physical labor, it'd help him get his strength back! Or
tire him out early, it was hard to say at this point. Either way, he'd be
helping, and looking for what
a merciful edge: might be an entrance to the underground.

a vision bereft: Both of them, upon moving a good deal of the crap away,
spot a grate in the ground. The grate will take a Strength Check to tug open
as it's all grimy and nasty and stuck. DC12.
a vision bereft: She continued to move things aside, until she spotted the
iron grate and pointed though he surely had seen it as well. "There it is!
She was right." She continued to move the stuff away now focused just on the
area where the grate
a vision bereft: was located, and crouched down and grabbed the bars and
attempted to tug the damn thing open with her own brute strength, ha!
OnlineHost: a vision bereft rolled 1 20-sided die: 17

a merciful edge: "Well, there we go." He moved stuff away as well so the
grate was fully exposed, then crouched down and grabbed the bars to tug as
well. Or would have if she hadn't yanked it up before he was ready.
a vision bereft: Damn thing started moving soon as she grabbed it, and with
his help she moved it aside enough so that they could climb down the ladder
attached to a wall by the grate. She took her lantern and lit it, and knelt
down to peer down
a vision bereft: into it, then down she went the ladder until she was in the
sewer and held the lantern up to see what was around. It was a tunnel, of
course. The sound of dripping water was prevalent, and the smell was terrible
but at least they
a vision bereft: didn't have to walk knee deep through sewage sludge - at
least not yet.
a merciful edge: He climbed down after her, mostly because she had the
light, and he'd rather not stand there in the dark and get attacked waiting
for her! If she got attacked he could always just jump down sword-first,
after all. But it seemed she
a merciful edge: didn't, so they reached the bottom safely? "Hm. Smells
better than I did for a while, I suppose." He grinned a little and looked
down the tunnel, but he wouldn't really be able to see much even if he tried
hard enough to warrant a
a merciful edge: spot check.
a vision bereft: She held the lantern up and looked as far as they could see
with the light, then leaned over and gave him a side hug when he spoke of how
stinky he'd been when she'd found him and before that as well. She wrinkled
her nose then and
a vision bereft: began to move forward, though she did pause a moment and
grab her skirt and lift it up to tuck into the waistband and her cloak as
well, so the skirt nor cloak got dirty, though it did leave her legs from the
knees down bare except
a vision bereft: for her ankle boots. "She said, go straight. Do not turn,
do not merge, do not do anything but go straight and we will hit the
Catacombs." And so, she walked.
OnlineHost: a merciful edge has left the room.
OnlineHost: a merciful edge has entered the room.

do not merge, do not do anything but go straight and we will hit the
Catacombs." And so, she walked.
a merciful edge: "Sounds simple enough. Let's hope we don't get confusing
passageways and side tunnels that blend into this one without us noticing."
He returned the side hug, and then started walking. He'd just wash his cloak
later, his trousers
a merciful edge: were already going to get into the muck anyway, nothing to
be done for that if he didn't want to show off his extra skinny chicken legs,
which he didn't particiularly feel like doing.
a vision bereft: They walked for a good 30 or 40 minutes, having to climb
over stuff sometimes just to stay straight, but eventually the tunnels began
to take on a different tone. The ceilings were arched, and had recesses just
the right size for
a vision bereft: bodies to be slid into. There were also unlit torches,
defunct for no doubt ages, hanging on the walls in various places. They were
definitely in the Catacombs. Now to find a mummy! "Certainly looks like we've
hit the right spot.
a vision bereft: Now, where would a mummy be hiding?
a vision bereft: "*
a merciful edge: Oh dear, yes, it did indeed look like a catacomb and less
like a sewer. He wrinkled his nose a little bit, since if there were mummies,
that meant it was a distinct possibility that there could be zombies, so none
of those creepy
a merciful edge: recesses could be trusted! "Well if the stories are to be
believed, I would assume either in a sarcophagus, or right behind you."
a vision bereft: "I'd say sarcophagus." She turned and looked behind them
though, holding that lantern up high to let the light reach as far as
possible. Satisifed there was no mummy behind them, she turned around and
held the lantern as they
a vision bereft: continued to walk. The walls, plaster falling off, held
some pretty amazing paintings even if they were crumbling. She gazed at the
paintings as she walked by, thinking maybe they'd give them some assistance.
They reached an area
a vision bereft: that had two archways on either side, and inside the left
there were three sarcophogi on stone beds, and in the right there was merely
one in the midst of the room. No loot of any kind to be seen, but the
paintings were much more
a vision bereft: vibrant in that room as if the air and moisture hadn't
quite gotten to it as bad. She held the lantern one way, then the other, and
back again, then glanced to Kyle over her shoulder with an expression that
said she was seeking
a vision bereft: guidance.
a merciful edge: He satisfied himself with the thought that perhaps the
sludge they'd had to walk through would at least keep the rats off of his
feet. Possibly draw flies, but they wouldn't bite his toes off! He glanced
behind them as well when she
a merciful edge: turned around and chuckled, then moved along with her,
eyeing the surroundings some more, and oh! Archways. He peeked into the left,
and then to the right, thinking. "Hm. Just in case they all have mummies, I'm
going to suggest we
a merciful edge: try to tackle one instead of three." Hopefully mummies
didn't work like ninjas, where they were ridiculously more powerful the less
there were. He started heading towards the room with just the one
sarcophogus.
a vision bereft: "Sounds like a good plan to me." She headed into the room
with just one sarcophagus, and held the lantern up to look at the pictures
that were drawn in quite a bit of detail on the walls. There was writing on
several portions of the
a vision bereft: wall in an ancient version of Sark of which she was not
privy to being able to read though she could tell from looking that it was
similar to the Sark she saw all around town. "Can you read Sark?" She
furrowed her brow.
a vision bereft: (I am gonna try a Knowledge (Anthropology and Archaelogy)

"Some sort of nobility. Let's open the coffin?"
a merciful edge: "I can't say that I do. I'm not from anywhere near around
here, after all." He could read evil cult language and elven! And human. That
was it. He squinted at the writing, then moved over to the sarcophogus and
made a 'hmm' noise.
a merciful edge: "Perhaps we should just poke at it some. Or open it, that
works too." He planted a hand in the seam, assuming he could find it, then
tried to tug the thing open!

a vision bereft: While they were busy trying their damndest to get that

crypts. The lid of the sarcophagus slid a little, enough to make a horrible
sound of stone against
a vision bereft: stone, and enough that they could see that indeed there was
a mummy inside the sarcophagus. But was it a Mummy? Or merely a dead person
wrapped up in the bindings?

a merciful edge: He narrowed his eyes and dropped the lid, hand moving up to
draw his sword when he heard shuffling. Or shambling? Mummies liked to
shamble.
a vision bereft: Shambling, shuffling, whatever it was doing, it was moving
towards them.
a merciful edge: Well he turned to look so it didn't mummy punch him in the
back or something!
a vision bereft: She also heard that, someone was moving around out there -
or something. She sat the lantern on top of the coffin they were breaking
into and pulled her seax from the sheath, readying for combat if needed!
a vision bereft: She was not so lucky as to have darksight, or blindsight so
she didn't want her lantern to go out!
a merciful edge: She could always set the mummy on fire for light.
a vision bereft: It was drawn to the light and without further ado, a mummy
about five foot five inches tall appeared in the doorway. It's bands had
fallen away in some places, showing wrinkled and dried skin and even bone in
some places. It saw
a vision bereft: them both and began heading for Elle. It bore no weapon,
but it didn't need one because it's very touch could cause mummy rot and
while it was rather slow, it was supernaturally strong! It came towards Elle
trying to slam it's body
a vision bereft: into her and send her against the wall behind her.

a vision bereft: She frowned and linked her arm with his. "You are not dying

a vision bereft: The Sanctuary, as it was called, or Common Church, was just

a vision bereft: Mission: Undead Study
a vision bereft: ^v^ 11/11/2012 12:58:39 AM ^v^
a vision bereft: A student of the magical arts must finish her solo study on
necromantic phenomena before her academic deadline.
Either way, he'd be
helping, and looking for what
a merciful edge: might be an entrance to the underground.

spot a grate in the ground.

OnlineHost: a merciful edge has left the room.

a merciful edge: "Sounds simple enough.

Or open it, that
works too." He planted a hand in the seam, assuming he could find it, then
tried to tug the thing open!

crypts. The lid of the sarcophagus slid a little, enough to make a horrible
sound of stone against

a mummy inside the sarcophagus.

It came towards Elle
trying to slam it's body

a vision bereft: She frowned and linked her arm with his. "You are not dying

through the tunnels. Going back would be faster as they could move quicker

a merciful edge: but he hadn't gone around to that either! Anyway. Yes, back
out! Hopefully to find a church so he didn't turn into dust.
a vision bereft: The Sanctuary, as it was called, or Common Church, was just
outside of town. That would be where they'd go immediately so they could find
a priest or priestess to do a break curse upon him. Once that was done, and
he was free of his
