edict unwritten: (2/26/15 7:57PM Log On)
edict unwritten: The trip to Westby was a dull one, Quinn didn't speak the
entire way there, keeping to himself, in a calm of sorts that seemed to take
him somewhere else. The roads weren't to difficult and about a few miles out
he stopped gazing
edict unwritten: over to his traveling companion for this mission and gave a
sigh, "I'm guessing you know as much as I do when it comes to this guy we're
meeting?" Another pause as his eyes swept thearea, in truth he had no clue
what they were
edict unwritten: walking into or what sort of protection this guy might
have, let alone if he expected them or not. Hardly enough details for a job
and even less details than Quinn preferred.
lurkerinshade: The silence suited Adalric just fine..the quiet serving to
allow his focus on other matters. Matters revolving around just how they were
going to gain the information Vixen demanded they come by! His company
finally breaking the
lurkerinshade: silence drew a glance his way. " Our fearless leader is not
the sort to give all the answers. We will come by it on our own. "Although he
did not mention he figured that Dex Maxim was the black marketeer that Vixen
sought to set him
lurkerinshade: up with for his much needed poison ingredients. " Best we
bluff and bribe in this case.. Dex won't be useful in the future if we maim
him. " Adalric knew how useful a smuggler could be for men in their line of
business. -d
edict unwritten: "Should be interesting." He pondered, only one thought came
to mind considering neither of them had any real information, "guess we
should hit the local Inne and see what information we can pry free about our
mysterious contact." He
edict unwritten: seemed annoyed, not at Adalric but the situation itself, it
made him wonder if this was some sort of test for them, something they needed
to pass to truly be welcome within the new, or at least what he thought to be
new,
edict unwritten: organization. He made a few clicks with his tongue and
rounded the horse to continue towards town. "Seen Vixen since she left for
Sarkotos?" He wondered how her new establishment was doing now that it was
finally open, though he
edict unwritten: assumed by now she would have returned to Doxenia.
lurkerinshade: " We will want to check out the Brass Fang Inn or the Crooked
Goblin Tavern. " He'd been to both not long after his arrival in Doxenia from
the ship out of the Islands. " Could just as easily find our friend at the
Bazaar. " Where
lurkerinshade: better to do business, even black market dealings, then in
the open where double-crossing would be put down by the local guards! " Which
should we check first.. knowing Vixen the Fang will bear more fruit. " Or
just alert more
lurkerinshade: people to whom they were looking for.. course he could just
as well offer up alternative reasons to be looking for Dex. " Best we not
mention our mission.. lets see if toxins will earn us a lead. What say you? "
-d
edict unwritten: "You mean approach as buyers?" He smirked, had that been
the idea Adalric proposed, it sounded fair, at least it would show that they
were friendly, "lets hit the Fang first then, if nothing turn up we'll hit
the markets." He
edict unwritten: carried on the road and headed for the Inne. The travel
wasn't long and once they had arrived Quinn stepped off his mount, checked
his belongings and began to head inside. Pushing one door open slowly, fully
extending his hand so he
edict unwritten: could get a good look inside before entering the
establishment. He searched everyone and everything, his gaze trained as he
counted those who may have been armed and those who were just there for a
good time. He subtly nod towards
edict unwritten: those who had been armed for Adalric's sake but not so
noticable that those he was pointing out would notice. He moved to the bar
and had a seat ordering a glass of Meade. Talking wasn't exactly his strong
suite.
lurkerinshade: " Making our mission seem as if its an after-thought in
importance might be to our advantage. " Adalric admitted, even if he was
thinking purely in terms of coin. The short continuation of their travel to
the Fang found the
lurkerinshade: Aspiring Dragonslayer following in Quinn's wake though gave
off a very different sort of demeanor in regards to those within. A grin
brightened his face once he noticed the serving girl, whom he knew to be the
daughter of the owners
lurkerinshade: , and proceded to give a wave in greeting to Lorna Shanta. In
spite of Quinn's non-chanlantly pointing out those whom were armed he pulled
his companion aside only long enough to motion to the half-orc bar-tender. "
Thats Fee I
lurkerinshade: the bartender. I figure if anyone will have an inkling of
where our man is it'd be him. " He certainly did not think the Shanta family
knew anything and hardly wanted to cause the sweet daughter they had serving
problems by being a
lurkerinshade: catalyst for them! It worked well into his flavor that Quinn
decided to make for the bar and he chose to follow suit taking up a seat
where he could more easily chat with Fee. " I'll have a Rainfire Mead, Fee. "
Course Adalric took
lurkerinshade: the approach every noble did when it came to coming by
answers. When he went to pay for the mead he added a moderate amount to the
sum. " Know anyone outside the Crystal Vial dealing in alchemy? " The tone of
the question was low
lurkerinshade: with a particular emphasis on the word alchemy for the
half-orc's benefit. -d
edict unwritten: Hehad to admit the man knew enough people around these
parts to know who to go to when to look for someone. Usually Quinn's method
involved waiting for someone to slip up in their conversation and feed off
the lead. So as Adalaric
edict unwritten: used his coin and what charm he seemed to have on the
people here, Quinn listened around the room, drinking his Meade so not to
look as though he was eavesdropping. He could nearly hear across the room if
he wanted to but there was
edict unwritten: a particular table in which he was honed in on. They were
discussing the markets and a particular trader that only met through certain
channels. Though they didn't mention his name or location, the name Jacobs
was mentioned and if
edict unwritten: anyone wanted to meet with the trader they went through
Jacobs. He didn't smirk or reveal his findings yet, he waited for the right
time, wanting to see what the Half Orc would give his comrade.
lurkerinshade: The problem with his approach came with its hinging on
previously established contact with the mainstays of the inne. Which meant
anyone that didn't quite like him was not going to be the most help.
Fortunately for them, John Shanta
lurkerinshade: was not around to be remembering the man that was so quick to
flirt with Lorna! Fee gave the noble a snaggle-toothed grin that could have
terrified folk if he were not one of the cleaner half-orcs around. " Mister
Shanta no like you
lurkerinshade: around. Drink the mead and go... what? Al-chum-ee? " Course
even an orc-blooded fellow like Fee could put two and two together when it
came to poisons and the nobility like Adalric. " Looking to sour a stickler,
eh, eh? " ".. You..
lurkerinshade: could say that, Fee. " " Why you not trying the Bazaar?
Everything there. " Right... well what did he expect from a half-orc? Or
maybe the orc had given exactly what he wanted to know? He gave a glance
Quinn's way then hopeful the
lurkerinshade: man had managed something as well. -d
edict unwritten: He listened in one the conversation keeping nice and quiet
while the Orc gave what information he was going to let go. "So the Bazaar."
He looked into his mug, weighing how much was actually left and than finished
it off. The next
edict unwritten: words were kept low so only Adalric could hear, "we'll need
to find a man by the name of Jacobs if we want to meet with Dex, I'm guessing
some sort of eye and ear for the trader." He gave a shrug and leaned back as
he was before and
edict unwritten: gave the Half Orc a smile as if nothing had just happened,
"quite the establishment you have here," he didn't want to say lovely or
vile, unsure if he was the sort of Orc to be insulted one way or the other.
"Best we continue
edict unwritten: on our way, I'd like to head back by tomorrow at the very
least." He collected himself, waited for Adalric. He figured once they
reached the Bazaar they could ask one of the fellow marketers who Jacobs was.
lurkerinshade: He did not much fancy the idea of heading into the Bazaar..
especially not when his last visit might have involved assualt, battery, and
releasing many exotic birds into the bazaar. Course Adalric admitted to none
of this to Quinn.
lurkerinshade: " Best be on our way then.. " Though he did take the
oppurtunity to wink at Lorna as she passed them by with another patron's
order weighing her down. While the young woman scurried off with a red-tinged
face, Adalric vacated his
lurkerinshade: seat and headed toward the door without another word. They
could talk more once they reached the bazaar after all. He suspected this
Jacobs fellow was likely to be the front man for one of the open-air shoppes.
" Hope they solved
lurkerinshade: the mess with all the birds by now.. " He muttered, after
they were back to the horses. -d
edict unwritten: He watched Adalric and the way he acted around Lorna, he
saw himself with the way he acted around Missy, the difference was that Lorna
wasn't a paid whore. With his mind adrift he barely heard the muttering of
birds, but when he
edict unwritten: realized that was what his comrade had indeed said his brow
rose, "Birds?" It was a fair question to ask, especially since it seemed to
have something to do with the location they were heading towards. Mounted, he
waited for Adalric
edict unwritten: to shed some sort of light on what he was talking about,
however whatever complications it may have caused, there was little they
could do, if they wanted to complete their mission they were going to have to
go into the Bazaar one
edict unwritten: way or another, all it meant was that they might have to be
more careful in whom sees them or not.
lurkerinshade: " I might have been involved in a little incident that set a
large number of caged birds free into the bazaar. " A grin was given though a
hand had risen to rub at the back of his head at the same time. Course that
had been at least
lurkerinshade: a week prior to this little venture! Certainly things had
calmed by now, he thought. As it happened Adalric had little to fear in
regard to the aftermath of his actions.. the birds appeared to be long gone
from the bazaar. They were
lurkerinshade: greeted to the sight and sounds of a busy locale to be sure
once they came close. " We'll need to stable the horses.. too many people to
get through with them. " Thus he'd follow his own advice prior to entering
the bazaar. " Guess
lurkerinshade: we need to find out where Jacobs can be found. Probably mans
one of the shops. " -d
edict unwritten: He gave out a sigh, expecting the worse from his comrades
story but as seeing there were no birds, a relieving sigh broke free from his
lips and he took the man's advice and stabled his horse before they entered.
The busy crowd, the
edict unwritten: loud noises. They were quite comforting for Quinn. He
slipped pass people easily as if this was right at home for him. "Agreed," he
stopped when his eyes saw a group of children bumping into some strangers
other than themselves.
edict unwritten: It was like fate had favored them. As the children
attempted to pass he lowered himself and blocked the way for one of the kids,
he grabbed their wrist, "I'm looking for a man name Jacobs, take me to him,"
the child protested but
edict unwritten: before it could gather attention, "earn yourself a coin,
instead of losing the ones you just pocketed." His eye was sharp, it was hard
to really slip anything past him, he held up coin from his own pouch handed
it to the kid and
edict unwritten: the child began to lead them to where he knew where Jacobs
would be. Jacobs was a middle aged man, a scar on his cheek, in truth it was
a hard find, like traveling a maze just for a single man. Either business was
hard to come by or
edict unwritten: it was for the very selective few. "Care to do the
talking?" He looked to Adalric.
lurkerinshade: There was little that a clever noble could not procur through
coin or their own wiles. Sometimes those did not help much and a man like
Quinn proved much more benefical. Personally Adalric didn't much care for
children.. and their
lurkerinshade: presence made him keep his token-filled container in his
jacket rather than on his belt. It did not make him any less grateful for
Quinn's capability in garnering the information they needed when his own
means for doing so was
lurkerinshade: sorely lacking. A nod came in response to asking him to do
the talking and proved all he needed before actually seeking out Jacobs
himself. " I hear you serve a very select clientele.. " Adalric's classical
lilt called him out as
lurkerinshade: being of noble birth, by a different cast he had about as
many smudges on his face and hands as a peasant-borne may have.. though for
entirely different reasons. Harvesting for alchemy took some skill in
gardening! How much any of
lurkerinshade: that would help them with the frontman, was anyone's guess.
-d
edict unwritten: Quinn knew talking wasn't his forte, he just knew where to
collect information, not how to leech it out of someone. Having a noble in
that regard was quite beneficial. For now he watched the as the two spoke.
Meanwhile, Jacobs
edict unwritten: seemed nearly annoyed that they were there, of course, he
was annoyed with about anything and everything that came his way. "Now that
depends on who you are and what you're looking for," the man wasn't alone
either, he had two men
edict unwritten: behind him and as they approached Jacobs in the first place
a larger man had appraoched from behind. "You the two looking for poisons?
Word travels fast when it comes to that vile little sort of liquid, so tell
me what you two want
edict unwritten: with it, and more so, with me?"
lurkerinshade: Knowing his poisons as he did he knew just the kind to
request. " Adalric Cadbury. " The familial name was one known among circles
of nobility.. particularly in Avilon and Doxenia. It was a major family to
say the least and the
lurkerinshade: name carried weight. " Looking to procur Darkshaft and the
Choldrith Toxin. " One known for causing nightmarish things to be seen.. and
the other .. paralyzation. He chose to keep silent on the subject of their
mission.. as this
lurkerinshade: was not Dex after all. -d
edict unwritten: The man sized the two of them up and as Adalric was of
noblity he simply assumed Quinn was a bodyguard, "and your body guard, either
very cheap or very stupid." Quinn didn't say anything, though enough
throughts ran through this
edict unwritten: head that the man could have felt the dagger in his spine
had Quinn's thoughts been read and been brought to fruition. Jacobs pondered
more and once his mind was made he gave a nod, "very well, follow me, for
such poisons you'll
edict unwritten: need to meet my employer," he waved them on to follow him
and he headed inside a building that lead downstairs and through a series of
what seemed to be tunnels. This place was as uch of a maze as the Bazaar yet
when they arrived at
edict unwritten: the specific location all they came to was an empty desk to
which Jacobs took a seat, "The last to come to me from Doxenia was a woman to
whom claimed herself to be known as the Vixen, more like Minx if you ask me,
now why are you
edict unwritten: in need of Darkshaft and the Choldrith Toxin noble,
planning a tea party to spike your guests?" Quinn seemed confused partially
wondering where Dex was.
lurkerinshade: Adalric did like to come off seeming stupid.. always worked
to his advantage when his intellect and knowledge put him on top of the
situation. Unless magic was involved then he was really unhappy to be
involved at all! When they
lurkerinshade: were led through the tunnels he came to the conclusion that
this was part of the sewer system that led to the rumored 'dark' half of the
Crystal Vial where poisons could be purchased much like how this was playing
out. When Jacobs
lurkerinshade: took his seat and Adalric took the oppurtunity to look around
while the man was talking.. it entered his mind just why there was no one
other than the three of them. " Guess this makes you Dex Maxim. " His
amusement bubbled forth in
lurkerinshade: to an expression that displayed a reasonable amount of
admiration for the simple guise. " Nothing quite as entertaining there is a
mage that has caught my ire. A little mind-fucking while he's paralyzed will
do him some good. " That
lurkerinshade: was not actually a lie at all.. there was in fact a mage he
wanted to torment a good deal! " Oh, and there is some deckhand on board a
vessel called the Sirens Mistrust I need to have a chat with. " While the
mention of the mage
lurkerinshade: came with a tone that spoke of very real agitation at the
thought of the arcanist in question.. the mention of the deck hand? Well that
really did seem like quite a secondary objective. -d
edict unwritten: As Adalric made sense of Quinn's confusion, Quinn simply
shook his head. He would have never thought that someone like Dex Maxim would
play as his own errand boy. He nearly questioned why but Adalric was doing
most of the talking
edict unwritten: and Quinn was obviously thankful. Dex grinned taking note
of the two, "as you're coming to me, you obviously know that I only deal in a
lot of coin or very, very good favors, your poisons don't come easy Noble, I
do hope you have
edict unwritten: something to offer for such a product, as for your
deckhand," he began to wander the room, "that wouldn't happen to do with a
certain rumor I've been hearing now would it? I dare not say which, but
perhaps you could ease my mind?"
lurkerinshade: " You will find a Cadbury has gold and favors a plenty for
those who do good work. I suspect your services are quite worth the trouble.
" Honestly he imagined he could produce those poisons himself.. but being
able to reserve engine
lurkerinshade: er them would help in his own work. Hearing that there were
certain rumors going about, he felt the need to inquire for himself. " It
could or it could be I just want to torment a mages' lover. " Eccentric
nobles were well known to
lurkerinshade: do far worse things than that to people and their loved ones
that crossed them. " You are welcome to take your pick.. and.. perhaps extend
your business oppurtunities into Avilon while you're at it. " No doubt Dex
would catch on at
lurkerinshade: what he was offering. While the Island Territories were
Doxenian to be sure.. largely only small town thugs and homegrown alchemists
like himself had taken to doing business there. He was willing to trade his
take in that growing
lurkerinshade: market.. as the favor it was for Vixen. -d
edict unwritten: "Deal, you'll have your poisons and as a gesture of this
business arrangement I will tell you that your deckhand has a filthy gambling
habit, along with sleeping with the Captains kin," he made a shrug of it, "I
do hope you're a man
edict unwritten: of your word Noble, I'd hate to have you hunted down for
lying." He would snap his fingers and a woman, blindfolded would come out
with a small package for Adalric handing it to him, "I do wish you luck with
your mage though,
edict unwritten: and it's lover, I would suggest a more vocal body guard,
this one seems... quite dull." He gestured to Quinn, laughed and waved them
both off. Quinn simply looked to Adalric, moved to the door and stood there,
waiting for him to
edict unwritten: take the door way first, figuring if Dex wanted to think
him a body guard, he could act it.
lurkerinshade: " Only if you aren't a finger-waggling cheat. "
Finger-waggling had become quite the tried and true term for mages that much
was sure. Once the package was well in hand, Adalric handled it with care
though not without giving a
lurkerinshade: respectful gesture to Dex prior to turning away in order to
be on their merry way back into the bazaar. Quin was left to do as he saw
fit.. if that meant playing the faux-guard then more power to him! Adalric
was mostly a man of his
lurkerinshade: word at least.. and with his business branching out into the
rest of Arith what was the lose of it in his homeland to him? " Time to ruin
a finger-waggler's mind.. oh.. and I suppose pass on what we've learned. "
He murmured, even
lurkerinshade: so it was said well after they'd both entered the bazaar
proper once again. -d
edict unwritten: "I'll take the information back, you go have fun with your
finger waggler." Quinn laughed shaking his head, once they were out of the
Bazaar and back on their horses he figured they part ways. [end?]

calmed by now, he thought.
[end?]
