From the outside the Chapter House blends in seamlessly with its environment. Whether the architect set out to make the building as nondescript as possible, or if it was in fact previously an abandoned warehouse refurbished to suit its new owners needs are not made clear. Its seen as one of those buildings that has always been a part of the landscape, you don't notice it on the way to market any more than you notice the cobblestones beneath your feet: it is merely there. Tall and broad, the windows appear blacked out with paint and the stone work is stained and eroding, wooden overhangs above each wide window covered with bits of moss and mold; it is unassuming and inoffensive and slips out of your mind when you are a mere five paces from its door.
A member of Nefarious Works holding the seal determines nothing of interest until they are close enough to the building to activate a faint shimmer: above the door the stylized skull and gears of the Nefarious Works Guild bleed from the stone indicating that this is indeed a place of sanctuary.
The first few steps inside are as nondescript as the exterior. A brief hallway with uneasy lighting of no obvious source, ending abruptly with the placement of a desk and a strikingly beautiful woman, Evelyn, the gatekeeper of the Chapter Houses. To the right of this desk, an alcove contains a large window with two arching marble pillars flanking the glass that allows a member access to the NW portal network. To the left of this desk, another passageway ends in a staircase that leads to the first floor of the Chapter House.
The first floor varies from the ground floor drastically. Where there is dilapidated wood there is now darkened mahogany polished to a deep shine. Where there were bare walls there are now objects of art. The staircase ends with a long hallway with various doors to either side. Some are locked, some are left open for the use of anyone, and some rooms are left completely empty. Several studies can be found along this hall, desks and parchment, quills and ink, dark rugs lining the polished hardwood floors with walls in various shades of dark wine. Empty chests and bookcases lined with an assortment of reading material ranging from the whimsical to the horrific, large shadows cast across the expanse by gilded oil lamps perched upon end tables.
The hallway ends in a large spacious common room, a fireplace set off in the far wall fills the room with heat, with large couches and armchairs of dark fabric are placed just so. A table rests in the very center of the room, beneath an elegant chandelier made of cheap crystal that gently chimes in an unfelt breeze, the walls lined with empty bookcases begging to be filled by the Guilds exploits. The blacked out windows seen from the outside are covered in thick curtains to break up the space, some left shut while others are carefully tied back with a length of cord. Alcoves carved directly into the walls hold various trinkets designed to please the eye, and more rugs are scattered across the floor in order to offer a plush surface for a careful step. Overall, the appearance of the common room is one of careful extravagance and the message is quite clear: we are frugal, but we take care of our own and you in turn take care of us.
There is another door, hidden off to the side in such a way as to escape notice. This door leads to the second floor, wherein one can find the dormitories for those cases where a member not native to Navahla can rest. The bedrooms are outfitted in much the same way as the studies, though with a simple desk and fewer books.
