I Yield to None: Because this is a continuation of a previous quest, if your
character was in Part 1 you'll need to use the same Gemstone Rank stats as
you did last time. New gear is fine, but gemstone stats must
I Yield to None: be the same.
I Yield to None: If you have questions please IM me or one of the
Moderators.
I Yield to None: Estimated time is 3 hours from when we begin.
I Yield to None: You can die on our adventures and there are consequences if
you die.
I Yield to None: Make sure your dossier is updated! If it's not on your
dossier you do not have it and this includes mundane gear.
I Yield to None: Remember when you first use something to tell me how you
are able to use it - after that you can merely state the numbers.
I Yield to None: Please limit all posts to 1.5 room posts per turn. This is
to help keep the quest moving forward for everyone. This rule will be
enforced.
I Yield to None: Now state your info if you still want in : Rank - Name -
Class/Profession - Dice - Hit Points - Defense DC - Character Flaws. You will
need to keep up with your own healing points as they are

I Yield to None: Those present, past and new to the adventure, will find
themselves still in the hell like temperatures of the desert, the bright noon
sun still beating down on them, and the massive creature still
I Yield to None: rumbling around within the city size complex kicking up all
kinds of dust and sand. Characters with sunblind will be suffering still.
I Yield to None: Annnnnnnnnnnnd we BEGIN!
SwordOfAtrophy: Ellis watched the sandstorm a moment, unable to tell what it
was or which direction it was headed. The sun beat down on him, but with the
boots on he didn't feel it at all. "Do we try to get inside? I can't imagine
standing up here
restless impulse: Mercy was still in stealth, lurking along that top wall
and keeping herself as hard-to-find as possible, given the size of the dust
cloud and level of alert. The sun was pissing her off, though.
Tesarik Five: There was a shifting of his weight as he turned to look around
at the others. Giving them all a quick glance over, then looking back out
toward the dust, then back to the group. "Well. We can go in blind, or stand
here until
SwordOfAtrophy: will be all that beneficial for us. At least in there we'll
have walls."
Tesarik Five: whatever that is attacks us."
Tales0fBeauty: Her eyes sparkled with amuesment as she looked down from the
wall they stood upon "I say we go in and accept whatever the fates have in
store for us" (D)
Mighty Gar thog: If inside, it may pull us under. If up here, it might
knock us off the wall. ~he looked at the others then~
abenedictionhymn: As Viola arrived, quite oblivious to whatever was going
on, only that something was happening that she might prove handy in, she
quickly began to draw out the fibers of her soul energy to assist her in the
heat of the desert. Moving
abenedictionhymn: up close to Ellis, as per usual, cobalt blue strands of
energy circled around her, as she cast a spell on herself. (Spell:
Transcendence)
I Yield to None: As before, amongst the chaos of sand and dust, they would
occassionally catch glimpses of something long sliding over the walls in
various places. Nothing was very clear from where they were standing
I Yield to None: atop the wall though. Just that it was big, angry and liked
to kick up a lot of sand as it moved around.
abenedictionhymn: "Fill me in?" she asked Ellis quietly, as she peered
upwards and saw all the sand being kicked up inside the walls.
Tesarik Five: Well, he wasn't going to wait around forever, so wings
streatched out he hopped down from the wall, floating to the ground below on
the bad side of the wall before he shrugged. "Still alive. So can't be that
bad."
restless impulse: Wrinkling her nose, Mercy would creep along the edge of
the wall and try to discern a safe way down: keeping an eye out for ..
anything violent or trapworthy?
Mighty Gar thog: ~Wesh thought they were too much a target together, so he
went into a jog, going alongthe top of the wall, to the right, if one was
facing the gate~
SwordOfAtrophy: "Well, we tried the door, beat up some sentries, raised some
kind of alarm and then.. that.." He motioned to the whirling moving sand
thing. He looked down at Sadlin on the ground, then shrugged and jumped down.
Tales0fBeauty: Sbe would do the same, those manticore wings were given a
flap and she would land gracefully on the ground she looked to saldin and
gave a firm nod and then readied herself for whatever would come their way.
(D)
I Yield to None: Oh Sadlin.... how we love you.... Well I do anyway. As soon
as their feet touched the ground the rumbling in the center stopped. You
could easily hear Warren's feet atop the wall. Then the fun really
I Yield to None: began! From the center a triumphant roar blasted the desert
sands before the rumbling returned, this time heading straight toward the
group. It took less than a minute before the creature.. well part
I Yield to None: of it, slammed through the wall in front of them, the one
behind them still standing. Tales and Tesarik please roll an Acrobatics Check

the dust settled the cause would be revealed to them. A massive, and when I
say massive I mean larger than usual, megapede raised up before

megapede... if you can call it normal, is roughly 20 feet long and biiiiiig.

within a pillar of sand was such a smart idea ..
I Yield to None: "I ask that you look in the mirror while considering the
destruction of four of our guards as you say that statement later." She then
bowed her head as the sands around them slowly began to fall away and the
world returned to
Mighty Gar thog: I was going to say... ~he did not finish, as Sadlin fell
to the ground~
SwordOfAtrophy: "Had they not attacked, they wouldn't have been destroyed,
easily verifiable fact.."
Tesarik Five: Dropped wasn't a problem, as wings kept him from hitting the
ground to hard. Landing in a slight crouch he coughed and sputtered just a
bit before holding his throat for a second. "Now thats not...." Cough.
"Nice."
I Yield to None: normal around them. As the sand disappeared so did she,
though a last statement was given, "as the celestial rules govern, you have
passed my challenges and shall not be forced to fight... me."
SwordOfAtrophy: "You didn't attack.. we didn't attack you.. funny how that
works?"
I Yield to None: The remains of the megapede, destroyed wall and they were
all back where they started. Within seconds though a male voice sounded and a
thud announced another sphinx, on top of the third inner wall. "We attack
intruders who entered
Mighty Gar thog: ~He chuckled as Ellis seemed to be taunting the sphinx~
Shall we proceed? ~he looked around then~ Or go home?
I Yield to None: our closed city. However, details matter not as now you
face me. No more riddles, no more questions. Fight or begone." Muscles flexed
beneath the fur covered body, the massive eagle like wings along it's back
extending out high
I Yield to None: above it's bodies. Long claws curled inward slightly as a
tooth filled snarl was given.
SwordOfAtrophy: "Fine, I'm tired of your bullshit, just get off your fucking
moral high horse then."
SwordOfAtrophy: "Also, fun fact.. posting guards 'inside' the door is not
anything resembling a deterrant, which means you rigged the frickin game, and
have no right to talk..."
I Yield to None: "Fight or begone!" He bellowed, truly tired of the
bantering.
Tales0fBeauty: She looked to the new sphinx that was there now "we just want
to find the answers we seek" she would try her diplomacy on the creature
(diplomacy)
restless impulse: "I, for one, shall leave you to your mess." Curling a hand
in front of her, she'd bow at the yapping puppies and take a few steps back.
Honestly, it was growing to be embaressing.
OnlineHost: Tales0fBeauty rolled 1 20-sided die: 20
I Yield to None: ~*~ Tales0fBeauty scored 2 poynts damage ~*~
abenedictionhymn: "Can anyone tell if this creature is actually evil or
not..... if it is not evil then it is merely doing it's job of guarding
osmething or another. I've only heard of evil sphinxes...rarely.. maybe we
are looking at this wrong."
Mighty Gar thog: Pardon me, but... what city is this? Why is it here and why
can no one ever visit? ~he asked quickly~
Tales0fBeauty: +24 (+10 Elven beauty, +5 alluring tongue, +6 reputation, +3
CHA)=44)
restless impulse: And into stealth she'd go, happy as can be!
Tesarik Five: "Are you evil?" Why not just ask. Hell, he could tell teh
truth anyway (Celestial Heritage. ;p)
I Yield to None: Despite his rage at the conversation they had been having
up to this point the words from tales managed to cut through the anger. He
focused on her question, though he was still seething.. it wouldn't take much
to set him off again.
I Yield to None: "What is you wish to know she-elf? Ask carefully..."
I Yield to None: (For FYI, only the auto pass roll of 20 got through the
sphinx's anger.)
I Yield to None: (err *As an FYI, not for FYI)
SwordOfAtrophy: Yea, he was fuming. People setting their own rules, and then
calling everyone else in the wrong for doing so. He hated that. But, he was
not, as they assumed an aggressor, if the sphinx so wanted a fight, he was
going to have to man
Tales0fBeauty: "we want to know the reason for this place, its appearing out
of no where, and where our fallen or misplaced fellow adventures that came
before us have gone or what happened to them...." she was very selective and
most detailed in
Tales0fBeauty: her answer to the creature. (D)
SwordOfAtrophy: up and actually do what he threatened.
abenedictionhymn: She reached over and placed a hand upon the back of Ellis'
neck and gently caressed his hair, as a means of attempting to calm him down
as she could tell he was quite angry. She was more confused than anything,
but still they needed
abenedictionhymn: their wits about them. She leaned over and whispered to
Ellis, "Are we seeking missing adventurers?"
I Yield to None: "It did not appear out of no where, it has been upon this
land since a time long passed. Captured and chained, along with our fellow
guardians our cities fell to the tests of time. We were released some time
ago, for reasons we
I Yield to None: haven't found. The world rumbled and the sands retreated
from atop this city. Those who have come... unannounced, uninvited and
unwelcome have been tested as you have. They have all failed up to this
point." (d)
SwordOfAtrophy: He exhaled slowly, letting anger start to fade. He still
believed he was right, that claiming civility without an attempt at
understanding was deceptive, and an evil act. But her touch reminded him that
more than his life was at
SwordOfAtrophy: stake. "Yea, that was part of it.."
Tesarik Five: "You're welcome." He coughed again, as if taking full credit
for them not being dead yet.
Mighty Gar thog: ~Whispered to Raelgil~ Askwhat they guard, and if all
others before were slain.
restless impulse: "Wanderers from Thanes, actually, no adventurers were
harmed in the creation of this Thannish request." A faint murmur sounded from
.. everywhere and nowhere. Ok so she stuck around for fireworks.
I Yield to None: "Silence snake!" He snarled at the snake, his patience
growing thin at the assumption that just because he was speaking to one he
was in a general audience for their curiosity.
I Yield to None: (*the snake = garth)
Tales0fBeauty: She looked to the creature those silvery hues of hers showed
a fearlessness in them but a peacfulness as well "what is it you hold within
these city walls that requires such elabortate defences and creatures to
gaurd it? maybe we
Tales0fBeauty: can help you defend it..." she offered.
I Yield to None: He would have pointed to his lion ears atop his head to
explain how he heard the whisper but that would be redundant and rather
unsphinx like.
Mighty Gar thog: (lol that was why he whispered to Raelgil)
abenedictionhymn: She nodded, but continued to stroke fingers along his hair
right above his neck as she watched and listened carefully. "I have heard
stories of cities that were hidden away, like sunken cities into the ocean
due to earthquakes and
abenedictionhymn: things," she whispered to Ellis. Though, when it began
yelling at them for chatting with one another she frowned and moved foot to
foot, glancing around. She didn't like it here, it was too hot for one thing.
I Yield to None: Exhaling violently through his muzzle he shook his head and
mane before looking back to the she-elf. "It is a city she-elf..... what city
doesn't raise defenses to protect itself?"
Mighty Gar thog: Ah, we must talk to each other, to decide to leave, oh
great one. ~said clearlyto the sphinx~
I Yield to None: (oh, my bad, forgot to link a picture for this guy:
static.squarespace.com/static/535adf45e4b0cd207ffc69c5/5418963be4b003eaab461f04/5418963fe4b003eaab461f08/1410897576375/Androphinx-BMetheney.jpg)
Mighty Gar thog: ~Then to all~ If we hear if all the others are dead, or
imprisoned, I believe our mission to this long lost city will be complete,
no? Then, we could go.
Tales0fBeauty: She held the creatures gaze and gave a frim nod to his
respons careful to make sure the creature was aware of her eye contact as it
was a sign of respect on her part "Fair enough...but to clarify, to us and
cities surrounding you,
restless impulse: Wasn't it already complete? The Sphynx claimed they were
all tested and had failed: the criteria had been met
Tales0fBeauty: this city did just appear out of nowhere, and well that in
our experinece has meant bad things so of course we would come and
investigate naturally to ensure our cities are safe as well..." (D)
restless impulse: She'd grimace to herself .. her natural distaste for any
surface elf was warring with the begruding feeling that this woman was the
only one making sense. It left a sour feeling in her stomach, damnit.
SwordOfAtrophy: He was having a hard time keeping his sarcastic comments to
himself, and frankly Legendmaker had suddenly become a saint by keeping his
trap shut. So instead, he'd just turn to look at Viola, because looking at
her was much more
SwordOfAtrophy: pleasant than anything else. ....and he would have found
that silent statement odd, as he had said the same thing as to why they came
earlier and got attacked.
I Yield to None: "Ignorance breeds ignorance she-elf and it isn't a reason
for action but an excuse to do as one pleases. The forces of this closed off
city have attacked no one beyong our walls. Now, this conversation is over,
fight or begone..."
Mighty Gar thog: ~Was wondering if he, Ellis, placed a silent spell upon his
great talking sword. But, decided to ask later~
I Yield to None: Whatever hold she had from before was now gone, he wasn't
being aggressive but the conversation was over.
I Yield to None: (*beyond)
abenedictionhymn: "I don't wish to fight the sphinx," she said
matter-of-factly. There was no reason to that she could figure out, unless
someone could tell her. She certainly did not like the sphinx but ganging up
on it and ending up killing a
abenedictionhymn: creature she'd always been told was an intelligent,
respect-worthy, good creature she could not reason in her mind to do so. She
smiled at Ellis as he looked at her, then looked towards the others. "We
should go."
Tales0fBeauty: she would give a firm nod and then looked to her allies "Well
you heard the creature we fight or begone....I for one think we have what we
came to get and agree with viola, we should leave this place be." (D)
Mighty Gar thog: Shall we depart everyone? Seems the mission was a suyccess,
except what became of those who failed in the test. So, why bother these
beings?
abenedictionhymn: She curtsied to the sphinx, and then turned and headed to
however the best way to get out was, the broken wall perhaps. She would
pause, though, if Ellis did not follow. She would not leave, regardless of
her feelings about battle,
abenedictionhymn: if he was going to stay and fight.
SwordOfAtrophy: No, he wouldn't. It was ironic that a creature who didn't
make the feeblest attempts to understand anyone else's perspective,
completely and utterly blind to the fact that it wasn't the only thing in the
world, would mention the
Mighty Gar thog: ~Wesh waited for the others to start heading out, before he
would go, keeping aneye on the males now~
Tales0fBeauty: Naturally if they failed the tests they went through the elf
would think it is safe to assume they were dead....
SwordOfAtrophy: ignorance of other races, but debating it on that, even
though he was right, would just provoke a fight, so fuck this thing on it's
porcelin throne. He turned on his heel and just walked back out through the
wall that was broken by
SwordOfAtrophy: their own bug, and into the desert, to.. oddly enough.. cool
off.
Mighty Gar thog: ~Wesh remembered the other sphinxes comments on
assumptions~
abenedictionhymn: She handed him her Flask of Endless Water, and gave him a
kiss on the cheek, "Don't let it get to you, darling. It's whole purpose in
life is to make others feel like they are lesser beings, that they are all
powerful and all
abenedictionhymn: knowing, so they can go jump in a deep lake."
Tesarik Five: Well he didn't feel like dieing today, so with the only two
choices he shook his head slowly and let wings send him flying above the
others. Then off he went, at least outside the walls to wait for the others.
Sticking around enough
Tesarik Five: so he could help if one of the others decided to do something
stuipd and attack.
I Yield to None: Alrighty then, they left unmolested!
I Yield to None: The decision made tonight will effect the story arc as a
whole. I can't say how to keep things unbiased going forward but know that it
greatly impacts the outcome. Once the story arc is complete I'll
I Yield to None: share with everyone how the decisions made effected the
later events.
Mighty Gar thog: ~Wesh was moving at the back of the group, heading out now,
watching the others, especiallu angryEllis~

From the center a triumphant roar blasted the desert
sands before the rumbling returned, this time heading straight toward the
group. It took less than a minute before the creature.. well part

in this world." She answered, also finding the conversation entertaining.
SwordOfAtrophy: "Does any one being ever truly understand it's own purpose?
The person we often know the least about is ourselves."
I Yield to None: "Perhaps.... but a lack of acceptance or understanding
doesn't make the gift any less of a gift."
Mighty Gar thog: Ah, but some have fates that are undetermined. Thestrings
in thetapestry are not yet set. ~he was watching her, seeing if her body
language gave away any sign of her fitire actions~
Tales0fBeauty: "If you cannot embrace the life that was so preciouly given
you, you live a life not worthy of the blessing you have been given..."
I Yield to None: Nodding in the direction of tales another small smile was
given before her previous statement was reiterated. "Failure to accept,
understand or even see the future doesn't make the gift of today any less."
I Yield to None: Looking at each of them again the Sphinx would nod before
her lovely voice announced the riddle, "In brightness it wakes, under cover
it lives, in darkness it rests." (The riddle must we answered with
Mighty Gar thog: *future
I Yield to None: a Knowledge Check. DC of 25+ needed for your character to
"know the answer.")

Tesarik Five: (Of course. Lol. Only a 20 >.<)
restless impulse: She'd furrow her brow and try to come up with something ..
but alas, it was not her area of expertise, and so her mind was blank.
SwordOfAtrophy: As usual, the sword doesn't know a f'kin thing.
Mighty Gar thog: (wb)
I Yield to None: (Don't forget to add intelligence if you have any)
Tesarik Five: (Oh wait, does the amulet work for knowledge checks? If so
thats 25)
Tales0fBeauty: (its for damage, saves and spell DCs)
I Yield to None: (Sadly, no then.)
I Yield to None: (actually hold on)
I Yield to None: (I'm going to accept it because it is written that you get
a bonus for any DC. So yes, tesarik passes.)
Tesarik Five: "A Day." He spoke, not entirely to sure about the answer, but
he had a good idea about it at least.
I Yield to None: A nod was given to tesarik after the slow closing and
opening of her lovely eyes. "Indeed adventurer, the answer is a day." Looking
around she would continue, "Do you wish for the second riddle?"
Mighty Gar thog: What if we say no? ~He tilted his head as he asked~
I Yield to None: "The strings in the tapestry will reveal such to you once
you decide...." Another smile was given.
Tesarik Five: "It would probably be a bad idea." He said off the side before
he looked back to the creature. "Ask if you will."
I Yield to None: "Very well." She said upon hearing the response from the
one who guessed the last riddle. She waved her right hand, calling forth an
unseen force that randomly chose one of the adventurers. They would feel
themselves seized around
abenedictionhymn: (back)
I Yield to None: the neck before they were pulled into the air between the
sphinx and the group. It wasn't hanging them yet, but it would over time. In
the ground below the body the following lines would appear....
I Yield to None: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
abenedictionhymn: She was there, she really was! Just hanging behind Ellis,
blue eyes wide with wonder at whatever was happening around them.
Mighty Gar thog: (wb)
SwordOfAtrophy: (so.... who was the random choosing?)
I Yield to None: They were playing a real game of hangman.... Using SB
order, each person will guess a letter. A Knowledge check of 35+ will allow a
character to answer immediately. For each letter filled in the Knowledge
check will go down by 1.
abenedictionhymn: "E!" She shouted, seeing the lines. It was a real life
game of hangman maybe! She squeezed her hands together.
abenedictionhymn: (oops sorry)
I Yield to None: After clarifying the amulet doesn't add to knowledge

I Yield to None: (Got a little excited did we? ;p)

Tesarik Five: So for his troubles of answering right the first time he was
hanging in the air by a magical leash around his neck? How rude!
Mighty Gar thog: ~Thinks it was because he answered, and because he asked
for the next riddle~
I Yield to None: Since abene is so excitable her letter began to fill in
upon the ground.
I Yield to None: Sword Go. Pick a letter or roll knowledge check. DC 33+
needed.
SwordOfAtrophy: He narrowed his eyes at the creature. "You know, I find it
rather ridiculous that you spoke so much about the gift of life, yet here you
stand to test us, while suffering no repercussions yourself. ......S..."
abenedictionhymn: She reached over and either clasped Ellis' hand or if his
hands were busy, slid an arm around his arm and frowned as Sadlin was taken
up into an invisible hangman's noose.
Mighty Gar thog: Uh... Sadlin starts with S... ~he nodded~

came here, I didn't come to you."
I Yield to None: Tales, Pick a Letter or Roll a Knowledge Check. 29+ needed

Tales0fBeauty: She would see what was going on ad she would search the

SwordOfAtrophy: "A true fact, however had you come to my door I would not

Tales0fBeauty: +18 (+10 knowledge , +5 Breadth of experience, +3 INT) = 23
abenedictionhymn: "Oooh, you're sexy when you get fiesty," she whispered
since she was nice and close to Ellis anyway.
Tales0fBeauty: and apparently she didnt.
I Yield to None: The answer didn't come to her. As such a base of the
hangman's platform came into view beneath tesarik. As such they would see
that three more pieces remained to be filled. The main pole, the hanging
branch and the rope itself.
Mighty Gar thog: ~he tilted his head, looking at the letters, thinking X
would be a rather bad choice~ I say... after S comes T!
I Yield to None: "You are beginning to grow annoying adventurer. You entered
this city in force, without an inventation. You then destroyed three of our
guards and actively engaged a beast older than the last four eras and kill
it. Don't preach to

I Yield to None: T doesn't appear, the main pole appears.
SwordOfAtrophy: pretend you have the moral high ground when your logic is
flawed."
restless impulse: She looked at the lad like he had gone insane. Did she
experience a different series of events? Humans.
I Yield to None: "Perhaps next time you should knock instead of barging into
a home? Simply because you don't know why something exists doesn't mean you

I Yield to None: "
I Yield to None: Restless, Guess a Letter or Knowledge Check. DC of 29+
still needed.
Mighty Gar thog: ~He placed his hand upon the pommel of hisswa toothed

SwordOfAtrophy: "Home? Is it a home or a city? You're just changing the
facts to suit your whimsical idea about how you suddenly own the world. You
may think us silly mortals, but being this great mythical being doesn't make
you always right."
restless impulse: She furrowed her brow, it was still too early to glean any
pattern .. so she went with the wild guesses. "A" Vowels were usually
popular.
Mighty Gar thog: *saw toothed

abenedictionhymn: She stared at the letters forming, thinking that an N or
an L would work in the first word, but she was unsure of what the rest was or
even what it was supposed to be - animal, vegetable, mineral? Quote? (Is it 3
words or 4 words?)
I Yield to None: (4. I'll adjust the spacing)
abenedictionhymn: "I'll go with an L," she said with a furrow of her brow.
I Yield to None: (Started looking off after some of hte letters added in

abenedictionhymn: "Maybe we should just leave. Outsiders aren't welcome

Tales0fBeauty: And what luck! the wise elf did know! "Darkness will always

Mighty Gar thog: (XWill Always)
SwordOfAtrophy: "If you don't understand extending at least the very modicum
of kindness and civility, then you don't get to pretend to be better than the
lowliest rat."
Tales0fBeauty: voice*
I Yield to None: The rest of the letters filled in and tesarik was released
to the ground, althought he was just dropped.
restless impulse: She wasn't sure if insulting the sphynx while contained
within a pillar of sand was such a smart idea ..
Honestly, it was growing to be embaressing.

abenedictionhymn: "Can anyone tell if this creature is actually evil or
not..... if it is not evil then it is merely doing it's job of guarding
osmething or another.
