From the very beginning, Vyce could tell he was special. While most children, even in the harsh climate in Rumeria, were running free and playing, he was escaping into books. First it was the stories of children's fables, then into the most serious works on philosophy, history and lore. He would read for days on end, without food or sleep, and often he would be scolded by his parents for doing so. As a Lumian, such things were of little consequence and zero necessity for his family, but often they walked on eggshells, trying to keep their heritage a secret.
To this day, Vyce still does not know why.
As he grew, his Auran nature manifested more, and he often found himself glowing or humming with the heavy static that accompanies large charges of electricity. He learned to hide it well enough to 'fit in' though he always wondered why he had to do such. He'd seen many others of various race or creeds walking around the capital, and not one of them ashamed of what they were. But still, he was told to be secretive, and so he mastered the art of emotional self control. This created a man who rarely smiled, rarely touched another unless it was absolutely necessary, and kept his distance from nearly everyone he'd ever met. For a man who valued knowledge, not knowing why he must do such things constantly drove him mad. But you would never know that by looking at him.
When Vyce turned eighteen, the year with which most human children are considered adults, he became ever more curious of the world not only outside of Dove Tors, but outside of Rumeria as well. Certainly, he figured, other countries and lands would have more books to read, people to interact with, more things to learn. He could be himself there, and not try to hide his nature as he'd be among strangers. So, one night, he simply informed his family that he was leaving to travel, study abroad and discover all he could about Arith. They forbade him to go, but only with words, as there was aught to do to physically stop him. They were hiding something, but he was never going to learn what as long as they had their iron control over everything he did.
Little did he understand what leaving would actually mean.
Vyce traveled north, into the frozen forest, up towards the coast, exploring much of his home country, living off the skills he possessed to hunt game, and his intellect to earn coin. After a time, he would return south, stopping in Dove Tors to see his family, mainly as a courtesy, and found the house vacant, and any trace of them gone.
Something that did not surprise him.
Whatever they took with them, whatever secrets they were hiding, he could find no clue of. It was though they simply went and vanished without a trace, an easy enough feat to do in such a large city. With nothing to go on, and nothing to lose, Vyce would simply keep traveling. Sooner or later, whatever they'd been hiding would catch up to him, he'd simply cross that bridge when he got to it.
Months and years passed, until Vyce found himself in the witchwoods in Doxenia. Lost and alone, he stumbled across a wolf, caught in a spike trap, dug by those who wondered about the wood and wanted to 'see' one of it's denizens. He saved the wolf from the trap, and found it to be a beautiful Moon Faye named Luna. They spent time together, he learning about the world inside the woods and she learning about the world outside. Until one day, they traveled to Sarkotos, to the Obsidian Heart Inne in Navahla. Where they live to this day, learning, living, and exploring the wonderous world around them.
