Obsidian Heart ; Weekly Update ( 7.7.14 )
Good morning, folks!
I hope this update finds you in the best spirits and that you enjoyed the weekend just past. Pam has once more, luckily, taken herself off on another real life adventure and so I am here to offer a few updates in terms of skill changes and other titbits of information along the way.
All Mission, Quest and Storyline logs should once more be sent to a runic euphony for grading this includes any missions, quests and storylines that have been conducted over the weekend. I do have some logs outstanding but I should be caught up with these by the end of the day.
Just a small reminder in terms of storyline and public role-play logs: please make sure that only one log is sent in for grading, if more than one person is sending in the log it can sometimes get quite confusing, as I have to sit and copy and paste bits and pieces of numerous logs together, to get a true estimation of what I should be grading. This is a slow and often frustrating process and while I will do it, I would prefer that it does not happen.
It is the start of a new month, so remember to make any of your monthly rolls!

Storyline Update
Dark Omens - Ophelia has been found on the brink of death and is currently at the Obsidian Heart Inne in a coma. The Triple Eclipse is coming, soon and the Heart still has at least three of the other Masters to deal with, including the kidnapper - Pedur.
Crafting Points
Now is the time to send in any Crafting Point requests to psionic wanderer. Please make sure to list any skills or items that increase the Crafting Points you receive from the default amount or they will not be taken into account.

Coming Events
You may have noticed on the message board that the Midsummer Games are upon us! It is a grand tournament held on the grounds outside of Navahla, Sarkotos and includes games such as Watermelon Seed Spitting, Sailboat Races and Wand Duels. The Midsummer Games will run from Saturday, July 19th to Sunday, July 27th - more information will be posted, closer to the time.
Please make sure to use the Calendar if you are going to host events this week (or any week) - as Pam is away on vacation, no quests are currently scheduled.
Weekly Challenge
Obsidian Heart has a fully working and wonderful Flaw system but that does not draw attention to the many intricate idiosyncrasies of our characters, and so, with that in mind, the weekly challenge this week is send three qualities and descriptions as to what makes these qualities integral to their character. Basically, we want to know what makes them tick. They can be weaknesses, strengths, or the values that they live by - anything that isn't already covered by the flaw system.
` Ophelia is good-natured, loving and loyal and she has a natural affinity with music. She grew up in a happy home, with happy parents and while she did have a selfish streak when she was a child, she has flourished into a caring woman who wants nothing more than to help the people around her. Her good nature allows her to see the good in people and creatures when all others see is darkness and this allows her to love freely. Her passion and nature, coupled with her affinity with music adds a layer of joy to every note that she plays. `
The reward for this weeks challenge is between 500gps and 2000gps, depending on the amount of information in the submission (the above blurb, would be 500gps to put that into perspective).
New Character Bonus and Recruitment Incentive
New Characters who join the Obsidian Heart during the new incentive will start at Crystal Adept with 30 XP and 2d32 dice. They will also be given 3000gps to start outfitting their characters.
Recruiters will receive 10xp and 2000gps for recruiting new players into the Obsidian Heart. This is per player that fills in the application correctly and is accepted.
Word of the Week
The Word of the Week is an easy 2xp that you can earn once a week, just by using the word in general RP. Please send Word of the Week submissions to Tesarik One, stating which character you would like the XP on.

New PSION skills have been added to the list:
Body Fuel: A psion can expand some traits at the expense of other traits. By giving up trait points in Strength, Quickness or Endurance, you may add to your Willpower, Intelligence or Charisma. You must abide by all trait point rules (cannot go over 16), and this is temporary and lasts for one adventure only.
Prerequisites: Psion (Primary), Ruby Rank
Chain Power: A psion who is able to manifest any of the elements of fire, cold, electricity, acid or sonic can arc their non-regged psionic attack to one other target, both taking the same amount of damage if you pass Strike for both of them. At Obsidian, you may arc to two other targets. Once per combat.
Prerequisite: Psion (Primary), Emerald Rank
Deadly Precision: You empty your mind of all distracting emotion, becoming an instrument of deadly precision. On your first attack in any one combat, you may add an extra +5 to your Strike. You are so intent on a precise hit to your target, that you cannot defend yourself with ease, causing you to have a Defense DC10 for the round you use this skill.
Prerequisites: Psion (Primary), Sapphire Rank
Focused Rend: You can sense the stress points in any hard construction, such as wooden doors or stone walls, and can ignore half of the object’s total hardness (or hit points) (round down) when attacking that object. This allows you to destroy objects with ease.
Prerequisites: Psion, Amber Rank

FLAVOR
Force of Will: You are able to resist certain attacks and effects with extreme force of will. Once per adventure, you may make a Willpower save in place of any Endurance save you are asked to make. At Emerald, you may use this skill twice per adventure. At Ruby three times per adventure and at Obsidian, four times per adventure.
Prerequisites: Psion Only
Overchannel: You burn your life force to strengthen your psionic powers. You may burn off as much of your hit points as you desire, and add that to the damage of one attack. Your hit points remain lowered throughout the remainder of combat.

Improved Psicrystal: Your psicrystal can be implanted with a second personality, which also enables you to imprint a second spell into it which can be used within combat without taking up a combat spell slot.

Return Shot: Using the power of your mind, you can catch and return projectiles and thrown weapons. Once per combat, when you would normally be hit by a projectile or thrown weapon, you can deflect the attack so that you take no damage from it. The attack is deflected back at your attacker, and they take the damage meant for you.
Prerequisite: Psion (Primary), Ruby Rank
Up the Walls: Using your psionic abilities, you are able to traverse a wall or other relatively smooth vertical surface if you begin and end your move on a horizontal surface. The height you can achieve on the wall is limited only by this movement restriction. If you do not end your move on a horizontal surface, you fall, taking falling damage as appropriate for your distance above the ground (per DM). You may pass from floor to wall or wall to floor freely. Prerequisite: Psion, Walk the Walls Skill

Deepened Vision: Your mental focus helps you see farther with darkvision. You gain a range increase to your darkvision of 30 feet. You gain a +3 to any Spot or Search checks while using your Deepened Vision.

Earth Power: As long as you are standing on stone or unworked earth (including normal soil), you can pull psychic energy from the earth. Once per combat, when you would otherwise be knocked prone or fallen such as by a Critical Fail, you are able to remain standing and do not take the loss of a turn or detrimental effects that you would gain by falling.

Inertial Armor: Your mind generates a field of protective energy around you. This inertial armor grants them a +2 defense throughout combat. At Sapphire, the defense improves to +3, at Ruby +4, and at Obsidian +5.

Mental Juggernaut: Once per combat, you may use your psionic focus to ignore the consequences of a failed save against any psionic skill, psi-like ability, or other psionic or magical effect that would otherwise daze or stun you. You can decide to use this skill after you have rolled and determined the potential outcome of your roll.
Prerequisites: Psion (Primary), Obsidian Rank
Mind Cleave: If you deal a creature enough damage to make it fall (typically by dropping it to below 0 hit points or killing it) with your mindblade, you drain off a portion of the creature's liberated energy of consciousness, which adds to your hit points temporarily, for the remainder of the adventure. Roll a 1d6 to determine how many extra hit points you glean from the kill.
Prerequisites: Psion (Primary), Mindblade Skill
Mask of the Mind: Any skills or loot items that determine your alignment will reveal you to be neutral, and detect magic reveals you to be non-magical and non-psionic regardless of your true nature.This can be suppressed to reveal your actual characteristics. This only masks the psion, not any items you hold.

FLAVOR
Touchsight: You generate a subtle telekinetic field of mental contact, allowing you to “feel” your surroundings even in total darkness or when your sight would otherwise be obscured by your physical environment. Your touchsight field emanates from you out to 60 feet. You ignore invisibility, darkness, and concealment, though you must have line of effect to a creature or an object to discern it. You do not need to make Spot or Listen checks to notice creatures; you can detect and pinpoint all creatures within 60 feet. In many circumstances, comparing your regular senses to what you learn with touchsight is enough to tell you the difference between visible,invisible, hiding and concealed creatures.

FLAVOR
Bonding Strike: You are able to make a single melee attack against two enemies within reach. Each hit deals damage normally if you pass strike. If both attacks are successful, the targets are empathically bound together. Until the end of your next turn, all hit point damage applied to one target is automatically applied to the other target.
