Update 2.45
Greetings, OH Members:
Happy Thanksgiving to those of you that celebrate it, and even if you don't celebrate it, it's never a bad thing to take a moment to think about the things in your life you give thanks for.
If you did not get the Update on an alternate character and you WANT to get it, please let me know as I've pared down the mail string to only send to the main sn's of each of you.
Last week Andy put in a request that people not re-send your emails when they do not get done as promptly as tiy like. This week, it still happened, so he'd like to ask folks again to please only send inquiries, not the whole shopping email again as it gets very confusing with the request being made multiple times. You may inquire in an email after 3 days time, but please do not just hit forward and resend the shopping request. If it continues to happen, he's going to assume you want to buy the same thing twice and process it as such!
Andy will be processing all orders he has tonight, but after tonight he WILL NOT be able to process anything until after the weekend due to his unusually full work schedule for this week.
Don't forget, if you have crafting skills it's time for you to ask for your crafting points. Don't forget to tell (ashtonlocke) and let him know how you want your points divided between skills if you have multiples...i.e. "Alchemy 8CP, Artisan 2CP". If you have skills or items that give you more points, you need to claim that on your email. This is the last week of the month, and the last Update for November so anything that's monthly this is your week to claim it!
Allons-y!
REPUTATION
Note that the way we do reputation has changed. You will no longer get negative or positive reputation - it's just reputation. You will decide whether you wish to be Famous (Fame) or Infamous (Infamy) by the choices you make.
You are allowed to customize your character's reputation by choosing what bonuses you gain for your reputation. A hero might choose Diplomacy, and Gather Information for bonuses, and not be quite as good at being Intimidating. This would be considered "Fame". Someone more chaotic or even evil aligned might decide that being infamous and scaring people into giving them what they want works better, and will take the boost in Intimidate and Bluff, which would be considered "Infamy". You can choose as you wish.
0 - You are a greenhorn and have no reputation at all, whether positive or negative.
10 - You are beginning to forge a name for yourself. Those in your own city and outlying towns recognize you. You gain a +1 to two of the following tactics or talents: Diplomacy, Gather Information, Bluff or Intimidation. You take a -1 to the remaining two tactics or talents you did not choose.
20 - Most everyone in the kingdom has heard of you, bards tell your stories and you are recognized when you walk down the street. People whisper about you as you pass, and either attempt to gain your attention or try to stay out of your way. You gain a +2 to your two chosen tactics or talents, and a -2 to the remaining two.
25 - You gain 1 Trait Point.
35 - You are well-known far and wide in all the more populated areas. Only the more rural areas have never heard of you. You've gained a +3 your two chosen tactics or talents, and a -3 to the remaining two.
50 - Your character is famous or infamous, known far and wide. You've gained a +4 to your two chosen talents or tactics, and a -4 to the remaining two. People will fall over themselves to help you out if you are famous. You will strike fear in all you meet if you are infamous.
WEEKLY CHALLENGE
Please send the log to tesarikone in order to be credited with this challenge. This is a one per CHARACTER challenge this week, so you can do this on each character you have if you like. You have until the next Weekend Update is issued in one week! I'm making this simple as this is Thanksgiving week, and many people are busy with their families, or working.
You are to write up a short story for your character that must be at least 500 words, using the following writing prompt: You are searching through your belongings and find an old stuffed animal or doll from your childhood. It starts to bring back a warm memory of a specific night that’s near and dear to your heart. Suddenly, your stuffed companion begins to talk and says, “There’s something you need to know about that night.” Write this scene.
Your challenge this week will earn you: 5XP & 2000gp
This is your challenge only. You may NOT send this to Jake for more xp, I'm giving plenty! Only send it to me, tesarikone.
QUESTIONS and ANSWERS
Question: How does DR (damage reduction) work?
Answer: Monsters sometimes have what is called "damage reduction" (DR) as well as defense. A creature with this special quality (extraordinary or supernatural) ignores damage from certain weapons or types of damage. Most of the time a DR is 5, 10 or 15.
For example, a powerful werewolf might have "damage reduction 10/silver": Each time a foe hits a werewolf with a weapon, the damage dealt by that attack is reduced by 10 points. However, a silvered weapon deals full damage.
Some monsters are vulnerable to piercing, bludgeoning, or slashing damage. Some monsters are vulnerable to certain materials, such as alchemical silver, adamantine, or cold-forged iron. Attacks from weapons that are not made of the correct material have their damage reduced, even if the weapon has an enhancement bonus. Examples: the war troll's damage reduction 5/adamantine, the young redcap's damage reduction 5/cold iron, and the splinterwaif's damage reduction 5/silver.
Some monsters are vulnerable to magic weapons. Any weapon with any type of magical enhancement bonus overcomes the damage reduction of these monsters. Some monsters are vulnerable to lawful-, good-, chaotic- or evil- aligned weapons. There are even some creatures that have a DR/legacy weapons.
If a damage reduction states two types of things they are vulnerable to such as "cold OR holy" then either one of those works to overcome the DR. If it states "cold AND holy" then your weapon must have BOTH of those qualities in order to do full damage.
