Update 2.42
Greetings, OH Members:
I hope you had a wonderful Halloween, we had a memorable Halloween quest and I wish more of you could have attended! In fact, we had a jam-packed week of amazing missions and quests and I want to thank each and every DM or mission leader that ran a quest this past week. In fact, if you were on the list of the Week of Adventuring, and you actually ran your planned quest or mission, you'll be receiving a little token of my appreciation here soon!
Speaking of quests, I wanted to talk to you all about quests and missions. This is something we've discussed recently as we talked about all the wonderful quests and missions that happened over this past week, and decided it would be a good time to discuss with the group. If you are a player on a quest and it is going slower than anticipated, there are a few things you can do. One, is to prepare your posts as well as you can before it gets to your turn. During combat, this is usually quite easy since all you may have to adjust is which baddie you hit if someone else takes them out. This also helps your DM out quite a bit, it's just never a bad thing to prep your posts especially if you like to write out a lot of detail.
The second thing you can think about is just more of a common sense rule - when you have larger groups of players on a quest, you may have to keep your posts a wee bit shorter. Primarily during combat. If you aren't going to prepare your posts ahead of time, keep in mind that most DM's have far more in their quest than just the combat. So, if you know you are slow, and there's a lot of folks on the scoreboard, shorten your posts a wee bit.
Note: Now you know we are all about the story here, so do not misunderstand and think I'm telling you that you can't put detail in your roleplay. On the contrary, we love detail! What I'm saying, is simply that those of you who post slow, during combat, trim your post a little. That's all! Even trimming off one box of posting can save many minutes of time!
Thirdly, be prepared. This is the most important one, for everyone. I have a notecard for every character, with very essential info written on it. I have their stats, their weapons, and defense. So, when I need to attack, or want to attack, I don't have to waste tons of time trying to pore through my dossier and figure out what bonus trait to add and such. This will speed things up as well! Simply, be prepared on the character you are playing.
Now if you are a DM, there's a couple things along the same lines you can do if you see that you have someone, or more than one someone in your quest that is posting extremely slow. First, there is nothing wrong or amiss if a DM IM's the slow poster and suggests that they try and pre-write their posts so that combat can go faster. Also, there is nothing wrong with a DM reminding their players that with more people involved, sometimes the smaller your posts are going to have to be in combat. It is, after all, up to the DM to try and keep things flowing.
One other thing I wanted to make sure our DM's know is that in the majority of cases, you can deny spells - especially out of combat. DM has final call, after all, and if your character has a spell that is going to ruin a potential quest completely, or take down your boss baddie in one shot - you do not have to allow it. Now, learning how to work around this does take some practice and experience, but not only are you in charge of leading your quest or mission, but you are also in charge of making sure the people are having a good time. A character popping in, and destroying the entire storyline and bad guy in the first round, leaving your quest over 2 hours early is not something you HAVE to allow. Work with the character, or simply say it will not work, or even explain to them that if you allowed this it would ruin the story you've worked hard to create.
Don't forget, if you have crafting skills it's time for you to ask for your crafting points. Don't forget to tell (ashtonlocke) and let him know how you want your points divided between skills if you have multiples...i.e. "Alchemy 8CP, Artisan 2CP". If you have skills or items that give you more points, you need to claim that on your email.

QUESTIONS and ANSWERS
Question: When I attack a creature with something they are weak against, how does damage work?
Answer: First of all, remember that your rank dice is the force behind your attack (whatever that attack might be) so if you are slamming a fire covered sword into the belly of a baddie, your rank dice is how hard and how powerful your attack happened. This said, if you are attacking a creature weak to fire, and hit with a fire covered sword, it takes double damage. Everything is doubled, including rank dice roll.
Now here's where it gets tricky. If you dual-wield, and one sword is on fire, and one sword is normal, then you're going to have to split up your attack to figure out what is doubled. It's easy though... here is how step by step:
1. Roll your rank dice. Let's say you get 20 dmg.
2. Roll your weapon dice. Let's say the fire sword rolls 5 dmg, and the regular sword rolls 3 dmg.
3. Now, add your rank dice to your fire sword dmg. Add in any bonuses such as STR, QCK, INT or class bonuses, etc... this is the fire damage and what gets doubled. Let's say I get to add 12 STR to my melee dmg. My fire damage is 20+5+12 = 37. This gets doubled so it's...74.
4. NOW, add in the damage of the non-fire weapon. That was 3 dmg so you now have 74 + 3 = 77 dmg total.
