"Few men during their lifetime come anywhere near exhausting the resources dwelling within them. There are deep wells of strength that are never used."
We all know that traits cap at 12. These are the points you get for Ranking up in Gemstone as well as that one Flaw trait point you can get, can be stacked up in your traits but they do not go above 12.
......That still stands true, but now there are a few ways to gain traits over 12. These ways are not something you can simply get by showing up casually for missions or the like. These things are earned by those that have an inner strength and determination, or by those that have impacted others and the world around them.
The Rules
1) There is a limit. You may only gain FOUR extra permanent Trait Points. That means 4 extra trait points to put where you want. Even if you do what is needed to earn more trait points, the most you can EVER put into the traits is FOUR.
2) This is total, not per trait. So you could take one trait to 16, or spread it out over other traits such as having one go to 15, and one to 13 -- or four traits at 13 each -- or a trait at 14, and two traits at 13. There's various ways to hand out your traits but in the end, you will only be able to ever place a total of FOUR extra into your Traits.
3) You MUST have the total you have marked on your Dossier where your Traits are located. The statement needs to be clear and easily identified so that any DM or Proctor checking can verify what in truth you have. Failure to either have it located near your traits, or clearly marked, will discount and void what you are trying to use. If you wish to put one of these extra Trait Points in a Trait that has not hit 12, please mark it with a *. Below is the example of how to mark it saying what was earned, how it was earned, and placing the new trait in without the trait being at 12.
Example:
Traits
(1 pt. earned || Jousting))
Strength: 5
Quickness: 5
Endurance: --
Willpower: --
Intelligence: --
*Perception: 6
Charisma: --
How You Earn Them
Award Ribbons
When you earn certain ribbons, you get a trait point to add where you wish. Ribbons are gained for sparring, marksmanship, jousting, and racing. You may even earn ribbons for doing your job as a bard or a healer on quests.
Reputation
When you earn 25/50/75/100 reputation, you get 1 trait point to add where you like, and it can take your trait points over 12.
Special Awards
On highly rare occasions a trait point may be given as a prize for anything special that the SL Leader might run as a contest, championship, or anything of that sort. This will be rare, but it may happen.
REMEMBER
Remember. Four extra Trait Points. No matter how you get them... such as 2 from Ribbons, 1 from Reputation, 1 from an Award... that's all you can boost your Trait Points.
So What Do You Do With Extra Points You've Earned?
Do not fret. If you are a go-getter and you've earned all manner of extra points through ribbons and reputation and awards, there IS something you can do with them. You may allot them to your Tactics and Talents. This means, if you have some extra points you've earned, you can choose to gain a bonus in something such as Diplomacy, Spot, Listen, Rogue, etc. Be sure this is listed CLEARLY on your dossier as to where you gain that bonus, and state it when you use it in adventures, quests, storylines, etc.
Anniversary Over-achiever Trait Points
Due to the rarity of the Anniversary Trait Point, this may go above your allowed 4. Meaning, normally you are allowed 4 trait points to place that can go over the cap of 12, these do not count for those 4 allowed. Though do note that any one trait still cannot surpass 16. These trait points still have to be identified clearly on your dossier for DMs and proctors.
