Resurrection
by ascendingaria
Introduction
The art of Resurrection is not to be underestimated, there is always a cost both for the Cleric and the soul upon which the blessing occurs. It is a blessing, not a curse: unlike the spells of Necromancers, resurrection is an act of divinity and resurrection is the abolition of death, the rescue of the body from corruption and the soul from the nether.
ACTIVITY ONE · Consider the differences between a Clerical resurrection and a necromantic summoning. What differences can you list? Please make it at least three.
Preparation
As with everything, preparation is key: you cannot simply make demands of your deity and expect them to wrench a soul from the nether and return it to its body: you have to commune with your deity, offer platitudes and if it comes to it, sacrifices.
ACTIVITY TWO · Commune with your deity, offer sacrifice ( mental, physical but not another person or animal ), pray and spread their word. ( This should be a series of short pieces in which the Cleric lives the life of a priest. This should be no less than 300 words. )
Healing
There is also a matter of making sure that the wounds that killed the body in the first place are dealt with as soon as the tissue is living or the intended resurrected will simply die once more. This can either be done by the Cleric or another Healer. Communication is key, one has to ascertain what the killing blow was, heal it to the best of your ability and then move on.
ACTIVITY THREE · Perform a standard triage healing on someone you're about to bring back from the dead. If you are not gifted with the healing arts ask someone to help with you. ( Perform a healing either in an Adventure or in play on someone that is about to be brought back to life and then the resurrection. If you do not have the Healing Affinity skill, bring someone who does and aid them with their work. )
Effects
It is often hard to determine what the effects of a resurrection will be: both on the Cleric and the intended. There are often times that the transfer is so traumatic that there are adverse effects, back lash and medical issues; most often than not though, the effects of a resurrection are psychological.
ACTIVITY FOUR · List at least four possible outcomes to a traumatic resurrection, both for the intended and the Cleric; bear in mind that most resurrections are done on the battle field, while the people around you are still fighting.
Aftermath
Resurrection isn't just a prayer you do, then just walk on. There are often ramifications, which should be dealt with sooner, rather than later. The spirit of the Cleric, no matter how powerful will become vexed and tired, the resurrected will often need support and most importantly, the deity will need appeasement.
ACTIVITY FIVE · After performing a resurrection pay penance to your deity through communion, meditate and discuss what guidance you would offer to a newly resurrected person ). ( These should be at least 300 words. )
