The Basics
If it's not already common knowledge, then you should know this one simple truth: you can't create a powerful magic item out of any old mundane item. Weapons and Armour must be of master-work quality to be permanently enchanted. Other items must also be of this quality.
ACTIVITY ONE · Explain in some detail (at l east 250 words) why you can't simply pick up a random broom and imbue it with the powers of an item such as Excalibur.
Items with limited uses
Most items with limited uses, such as a wand, is imbued with one spell, which it can cast a certain number of times. Not only does the item (before enchantment) need to be of master-work quality, it will eventually run out of power.
ACTIVITY TWO · List examples of two different Items and the items required to craft them with limited use (except for wands) and answer the following question: Can these items be re-charged?
Limited duration Magical items
Some spells, such as this one ( here ), temporarily imbue a weapon with magical power. In this case, a master-work-level weapon is not required. Aside from simply enchanting the weapon to strike with greater efficiency, effects can also be added ( such as making a flaming sword ).
ACTIVITY THREE · Using an enchant from the CRAFT MAGIC ITEM page imbue an item with such an enchantment of your own choosing with any effect you desire. You will be awarded 5 free Crafting Points to do so but the item will belong to the Emporium. Provide evidence. ( Please RP and log the enchantment. )
Sentient Magical items
You may not be as crazy as you imagine if you hear voices inside your head when using a particular weapon. Some magic items are imbued with sentience upon their creation. Either a soul was trapped in the item, or the sentience was created by the magic itself. In the latter case, the weapon's personality will often directly match that of the creator.
ACTIVITY FOUR · Explain the benefits of creating or possessing such an item and the potential for utter disaster in at least 250 words.
Artifacts
It's very likely that most, if not all of you, reading this will never encounter an Artifact-level magic item. It's even more likely that all of you reading this can't play 'six-degrees of separation' and trace to a being that has ever created one. Artifacts are forged by Arch Mages, High Priests, or Master Psion's of an extremely advanced level. They are able to bend and break all of the rules and are so powerful that even gods have reason to fear them. Few mortals (or supernatural creatures, for those vampires and demons out there) are able to possess an Artifact without becoming changed by it's dominating force.
ACTIVITY FIVE· Theoretically design your own Artifact. What would it's powers be? What would it look like? What would allow it to stand out among other magic items? Answer the following question: What are some of the potential perils to possessing an Artifact?
