Update 2.34
Greetings, OH Members:
With September comes a good bit of tweaking and updating of our game and our message board. We do this to make things more clear, to keep it fair, and to keep the fun factor going for all! Our message board is just a little different, and there will be some upcoming changes to the PSL, Missions & Quest section as Jake (acairnofrage) is going to consolidate all the various rules into one very easy to locate, easy to understand section with everything you need to know about how to run missions or quests, how to turn them in, helps, as well as what XP you earn for which activities, so be on the lookout for that early this week!
Welcome to Becca, our new University Moderator. The university is something that's been in the plans for many months now, and I know that under our new Moderator you all will find many things of use and of interest for you and for your characters. Direct all questions, and inquiries to (ascendingaria) concerning the Adventurer's University. We expect to have not only lessons you can complete on the boards to earn things such as free spells, more healing points, reputation, and other cool things - but actual classes you can attend and roleplay your character as learning within the classes.
OUR IC NEWSLETTER: We haven't had an IC newsletter in months so I want to get one out for September. If you have anything you wish to add including articles, gossip, news, advertisements for your crafting, looking for a man - anything - just let me know before September 7th (Saturday).
Don't forget, if you have crafting skills it's time for you to ask for your crafting points. Don't forget to tell (ashtonlocke) and let him know how you want your points divided between skills if you have multiples...i.e. "Alchemy 8CP, Artisan 2CP". If you have skills or items that give you more points, you need to claim that on your email. It is also the beginning of a new month so if you have skills like Pecunia that give you monthly items, don't forget them!
QUESTIONS and ANSWERS
I'm going to start including this section in the update of questions I've been asked, so here's the first one.
Question: Let's say your character is on a quest or mission, and they become infected with a horrible disease, and you have no CURE DISEASE potions, nor does anyone else. None of your team have any CURE DISEASE spells either. What do you do?
Answer: There are a couple ways to handle this.
1) If you have time, contact another player whose character has the ability to cure disease, and get them to roleplay out your cure. You can easily find people's spells and items on their dossiers, or just ask around.
2) Look at the character shops and see if anyone has a Cure Disease potion ALREADY MADE for sale. If they do, contact them via email or IM, and make arrangements to buy that potion. If you are given a time frame to do this, when you contact them and make the arrangements it is considered taken care of, even if you do not have the actual receipt by the 'end' of the allowed time.
3) Under the Emporium, there is a section marked Services Rendered & Black Market . This works basically the same as if you were buying from another player, as soon as you send in your request to ashtonlocke for Services Rendered then you are assumed cured. Any time frame you are given is met as long as you send in your request before the time frame expires. If you don't know if something is major or minor, ask your DM. In the case of a Cure Disease, you'd see a healer and pay the following:
Cure Minor Disease : 500gp
This will cure any simple, well-known disease.
Cure Major Disease : 1000gp
This will cure any major, or rare disease.
Note: You cannot craft a potion after the fact, it doesn't work that way. When you craft, you don't consider actually having that item until you get the receipt. Receipts sometimes take a couple days. If you do NOT have what you need in stock, you must use one of the above ways of gaining what you need, not crafting it yourself.
RECRUITING CONTEST
It's that time again, a "Back to School" Recruiting Contest! It is never a bad thing to try to bring in new players. They bring in new ideas, new twists and storylines and new blood to the game!
Indeed, there will be prizes, but as always, this is not for recruiting current player's new characters, this is for bringing in new PLAYERS to the game! And please bear in mind, recruiting players that do all the work of sending in an application only to never show their face again does nothing for our game, so for this contest I will not count a person as recruited for this contest until they attend their first QUEST run by an official DM! You will still get your 10XP per recruit though (not including your own new characters or current player's characters). If there is a tie (such as several people all recruit 1) I will roll dice to see who gets first, second and third place.
First Place - 20XP to Any Character, 10,000gp, 2 Reputation Points
Second Place - 15XP to Any Character, 5,000gp, 1 Reputation Point
Third Place - 10XP to Any Character, 3,000gp, .5 Reputation Point
You don't have to sit in a boring stuffy recruit hall to recruit! The best recruiting comes from just roleplaying in public, and having people wander in and ask questions. Open up some of our chats, and if you WANT you can open up a recruit chat!
Here's just a few places you could open in and around Navahla and the OH Inne:
Arts and Entertainment - Obsidian Heart Inne
Arts and Entertainment - OH Pincer Lake
Arts and Entertainment - OH Navahla Market
Arts and Entertainment - OH Amelia Park
Arts and Entertainment - OH Archgate Library
Arts and Entertainment - OH Knifedge Arena
We also have an incentive to new characters starting during this contest.
All new characters start at 35XP, and 3,000gp. This allows a new character to start at Topaz Adept (2d32), giving them 10 trait points, 5 Crystal skills, 3 Topaz skills and a Class & Profession.
WEEKLY QUESTS & ROLEPLAY NIGHTS
• Monday, September 2nd at 9pm (est) -- DM: Tim / scaleschange
• Tuesday, September 3rd at 9pm (est) -- DM: Pamela / tesarikone
• Thursday, September 5th -- Activity/Event Night - Leader: Tim / scaleschange
• Saturday, September 7th at tba -- DM: Jake / acairnofrage
WORD OF THE WEEK
Don't forget the Word of the Week! It's easy 2XP you can earn once a week just within your normal roleplay! Check the message board. Learn it. Use it. Send it in.
UPDATES, PATCHES, CLARIFICATIONS
--1. CRAFTING LOCATION CHANGE
I've gotten complaints in the past that the crafting and emporium items were too spread out and hard to find what was needed, and some folks didn't even know what all was available since some were on crafting pages and some on shop pages - so - it's all been consolidated. Crafting and Emporium are in one section, and you can look up an item and find out not only it's regular cost, but the cost to a crafter as well. Weapons are on one thread with everything you need to know about buying weapons, enchantments and improvements. Armor is the same, and it includes how to upgrade and what you can upgrade. Techs have a section. Specialized crafting such as Craft Magic Item where you are coming up with your own items is in a specialized crafting section at the top, easily seen. I do hope this makes crafting, and purchasing items easier for you all.
--2. ALCHEMY: Healing Potion Change
Alchemy crafters will notice that with 1CP you can create FIVE (10hp) Healing Potions. Being they are quite inexpensive, I felt it was more fair to allow you to make multiples of them with a CP than just one. Full Heal Potions remain the same, 1 for 1CP.
--3. SPELLBORN CLARIFICATION
The explanation for spellborns has been CLARIFIED. It never meant that a spellborn could take Mage (profession) AND Psion (profession) skills. It was not written well and confusing, but that was never the intent. It meant that a spellborn could take arcane and psionic type skills IF they meet the prerequisites - basically "magical affinity" and "psionic affinity" should have been in the description, not mage and psion. Trying to take a skill that has a prerequisite of needing a specific profession, or rank, still stands as it does for all classes and professions. It was never a free for all, as that would make Spellborns near super-powerful and able to take three profession's worth of skills, primary included. So it has been clarified to say magical affinity & psionic affinity (as spellborn have both) instead of mage and psion, as was the intention all along.
•••If you were confused by the description of Spellborn and have taken skills that you don't meet the prerequisites for that didn't get caught by any of the Moderators, please let scaleschange know so you can switch those out for free!
--4. ENCHANTMENT REMOVAL
The unarmed enchantment "Back to your Feet" has been removed and turned into a skill called the same thing "Back to Your Feet".
Back to Your Feet : This enables you to shrug off disabling conditions as long as you are equal or higher gemstone rank than the attacker. You are able to cause any disabling condition that would effect more than one round of combat to only affect you for one round of combat. If the attack or skill only causes you to be stunned or disabled for one round, you slough that off with ease and the effect does not take place. This can be used only once per day.
Prerequisites: Combat-Oriented Profession , Emerald Rank
(All Combat Class Professions, Monk, Paladin or Vindicator)
(V - Emerald Rank)
--5. MATERIAL CHANGE
I am sorry I did not catch this sooner (I am but human, and flawed, this is why we do tweaks), but Darkweave and Shadowsilk both added to Hide but the prices were WAY different with 500gp giving +5, and 3,000 giving +1 O.O... So now it's flipped so it makes more sense... Darkweave giving +5 for 3,000gp and Shadowsilk giving +1 for 500gp.
•••If you own something Darkweave, it now has +5 Hide. You paid the full price, you don't need to do anything but change it to +5.
•••If you own something Shadowsilk, it now has +1 Hide. BUT you may pay the difference and gain the +5 back, which would be 2500gp per item.
Darkweave 3,000gp + Cost of Armor
This darkly woven material can be used to make clothing, and certain armors and gives a +5 to Hide.
Shadowsilk 500gp + Cost of Armor
Black spidersilk. This specialized spidersilk adds a +1 to Hide Checks.
--6. CHARACTER LIMIT & STORAGE RULE CHANGE
Character limit is now TEN (not including free/prize chars). We do still wish for you to at least be in OH for a month before you start bringing in extra characters, so we can be sure you at least have a cursory understanding of the game.
Everyone has their own opinions of having multiple characters. Some folks enjoy a great variety and aren't happy with just one or two characters, some like to focus on just one or a couple. Both types of players are perfectly acceptable and there is nothing wrong with either type! Do what makes you happy! Those that have many characters will find you do not gain rank as quickly as someone with only one or two, but that is the price that is paid for having multiples. You also might find it difficult to truly get into deep detail with many characters, but if you are enjoying yourself and feeling like you have an outlet for your creativity and something you enjoy to write about, then as I said before, do what makes you happy.
New Storage Rules
Storage is where people who are LoA, or we haven't heard from in a while go. Not where you can store a char and switch out on the whim back and forth.
When you choose to place a dossier in the "Character Storage" area, this means that they are frozen at whatever level they are right now. You may not earn XP, GP, Craft, or anything of the sort. They have whatever they have when they are moved here. We will never tell you what you can or can't do in private, but as far as OH goes these characters are not active and cannot be played in public.
At any time you may request your Stored Character to be placed back into Primary Status, but remember you are only allowed TEN active, xp-earning characters in OH. This does not include approved NPC's or free slots for characters you've been given, or the one inactive you are allowed in the paragraph below.
If you are not LoA and simply wish to 'switch out' a character for another and store one of them as "inactive", you may use the Character Storage as well, but if you are not on LoA you may only put ONE CHARACTER in storage at any given time. Once a character of an active player has been stored, you may not request it to be active again until at least ONE MONTH has passed, as we do not wish to be switching back and forth week after week.
--7. POISON STUFF
I've added a poisonmaking skill on the crafting area.
Master of Poisons : Your prowess with poisons is legendary. You cannot poison yourself, even if you roll a Critical Fail on your strike using poisons. You are able to apply poisons as a quick action, enabling you to make an attack the same round your poison is applied instead of taking up a turn to apply poisons.
Prerequisites: Poisonmaking and Use
And some items for the Emporium.
Hilt-Hollow - Store one poison vial there and able to apply it as a quick action, letting you attack and apply poison in one round. 6,000gp. Uses 1 Point of Improvement/Enchantment.
Toxic Gloves - Enables a person with unarmed attacks to use poisons without poisoning themselves. 3,000. [Slot: Hand]
--8. Crafting: Homes & Property
Why yes, you may build your own homes or homes for other characters!
You must have Artisan Crafting (masonry) AND (carpentry) and you may craft homes and buildings using the same rules as any other crafting, which are 1/4 of the cost of gold, plus 1CP per each 1000gp of the regular cost of the item. So something that costs 5,000gp would be 5CP. 1CP is the lowest, so if something is 4500 you'd pay 5CP, or 500 you'd pay 1CP. Always round up.
WELCOME!
